Many creators will ignore the feedback and will get worse over time because of it. But you actually took the feedback and improved because of it. This is why you’re one of my favorite creators. Thanks Andrew!

@@thebiggy2014 What is and isn't brave is cultural. There is a lot of peer pressure to just hate criticism and get defensive without even thinking to prove your strength. Not just online, and it's taking over politics as well. So yes, having a measured response is brave.

But, it is really cool that you are able to take criticism so well, and I gotta say I do like the ideas you have for where you want to take your channel, with your audiences tastes in mind. It's soul crushing to hear critiques about your work, and most people either resist it completely or sacrifice their artistic integrity and just give everyone everything they want, no matter how it effects their product (I'm into the former). But you're listening to your audience and making changes, while still doing those changed aspects YOUR way without compromising the things that drive your creativity and inspired you to make videos in the first place. I'm Looking forward to your new stuff!

Skimming through a few recent videos of yours after I saw the NSMB video linked on Twitter. While this video is over a year old, I wanted to say I did like those couple of videos so far. I could feel the kind of personal and chill vibe you mentioned here, not to sound weird but I enjoyed you yourself being in the video explaining things.
I also liked that most of the gags weren't too drawn out. They often ran while you were explaining things(the chase response to DSi camera pranking), didn't derail the video for several minutes or serve as an excuse to bash on something unrelated, and I never thought I'd see a physical gag based on the subject of unused Mario tilesets. My life is complete now after that one.
Also huge props for taking people's criticisms into account genuinely, it would have been easy to see the flood of what I assume was a lot of hate/disappointment/vitrol in response to your video and misunderstandings, and decide to hide away, ignore it, or overcompensate and never try out things. Instead, you listened, explained, conversed, and seem to have ended up in a better result for it.
Anyway, you've earned a new watcher. Now to deal with this sudden craving for cheese nips.

I was among the group of people that didn't like the video overall. I am happy to hear that the critiques that were brought forth are being considered as well as including pieces of the new format (overall, I thought it had promise, and I don't mind listening to the dev story and sometimes that's half of the fun, but, like you went over, the jokes were forced, I processed the front half of the dev story as "the intro" and it made it feel waaaaay longer than it needed to be while including not that much content (which you explained, and I think most of us get that)).
I'm starting to ramble, so I'll try to rap this comment up by saying that I was always a fan of your content, was a little disappointed with the new video, but I'm looking forward to the new videos that are upcoming that'll be almost a hybrid of the old and new style.

I think the change caused whiplash. Format changes and expansion can be good, but the severe change up when you hadn't posted a video for eight months was just incredibly sudden. If you want to make separate projects that incorporate skits and humor, that's great! I fully support doing so. If you want to include these in your Beta64 videos, though, then I suggest small changes so the main content doesn't change and you can see how the audience is interested. Try putting a skit at the end of the video, with a nice segue from the beta content, and make beta changes from the video relevant to it.

    • @Micbro
      @Micbro 5 лет назад

When I watched the video I was thinking "did Beta64 get different people behind it?" since the style of video was so drastically changed. I think there's a place for comedy based videos, like in game reviews, looking over older topics (like Scott The Woz does a ton), etc. but for a video that's designed to give the maximum amount of information to a viewer, a "no camera" video works the best as Did You Know Gaming and the previous Beta 64 videos demonstrated. I didn't come to the video specifically for the personality of the presenter (even though DykG does that with guest stars a lot), but mainly for the information.

  • @ObserveTheCelestial

It's important to talk about what you love, and it's important to make videos you love making. Just be careful that you don't overwhelm yourself or your audience.
Also, maybe try to slowly introduce your new series. Don't just drop them in and immediately make them a weekly thing but introduce a single "beta" episode, gain some feedback, tweak some things, and put out another "beta". Not only will this prep your audience for a different brand of content, but it'll also prep your videos to be as good as possible.

Thank you for being so inspiring and accepting criticism so well and immediately instead of deflecting it onto the audience for not enjoying “your true art”. It’s awesome seeing your face and you are hilarious, but comedy doesn’t fit into this history style. Hope you bounce back better than ever because you’ve earned it!

I know this is old as hell. But I wanna say something. Many youtubers would be content to make a new direction and call everyone who doesn't like it a non-fan. But you learned that not everyone wanted memes thrown in for no reasons. And you're using it to build a more diverse and interesting channel. That's something I can respect.

I like the fact that you experimented and tried something new, even if it didn't work out as you expected, it takes balls to get out of the comfort zone. I'm glad you're coming back to the old games, since I've been expecting you to do GoldenEye, it's a game which beta version was extremely interesting, it would make a great video! Looking forward for what you're gonna do next, and thanks for listening to the feedback and actually coming forward and talking about it, it says a lot about how much you care about your channel and us, your fans.

I'm so glad to see this, thank you for listening and addressing it!
It's really interesting to see things for your side, I'm one of the people who subscribed for the Beta/Final comparisons and I'd never even considered that you didn't realise that was a draw to the channel!
I agree that the jokes don't work as well in these types of video, but I also feel humor can have a place in them.
The way I've always seen Beta64 is professional, well put-together documentaries of a video game's changes and I feel they work best with "humor, not comedy".
For example, your "Turns out this test room generated enough money in the box office to finalize a sequel called EneTest2" joke in your Kirby 64 video actually cracked me up.
It naturally flowed in the conversation, was still on topic and was a genuinely great joke.
I also want to add that your voice is just PERFECT for these types of video and they wouldn't be the same if someone else voiced them.
I know you won't see it the same as "being in" a video, but please remember that your voice is part of you too and it really helps make the videos what they are.
Anyway, thank you for listening to us. It's nice to see a creator who takes their fan's criticism to heart.
I'm looking forward to seeing what you have in store in the coming future!

Has being hostile and not being able to handle anything that goes against your view point become so normal that taking criticism is something amazing and brave? Good thing that he did it but that how everyone should behave to better them selfes in the first place.

  • @boxman139

This is the best way to respond to this. This is exactly what I was looking for in this video! I'm ecstatic that you listened to your viewers' criticism and concerns. In all honesty, you are who you are and this is *your* channel. The idea of having separate series for each aspect you want to go for is a fantastic idea! The Smash Ultimate episode was great, and the development story was wicked interesting, albeit all over the place with the tone of the video. But again, you addressed this situation with grace and I applaud you for that. It's not very often that you see the same level of genuineness from another RUclipsr. I'm sticking around to see how this goes, but I think this will turn out in mostly everyone's favor.

Yes! I 100% agree on everything you covered here. I think seeing your face and adding some personality to Beta64 videos is perfect when it serves to directly enhance and fit into the informational aspects of the video. I'm almost imagining something more in the direction of ProJared's review style, with a heavy emphasis on face-to-face segments where he gives his own thoughts in a very personable, relaxed style. I think that could work perfectly for this format. I'm also looking forward to seeing what direction you take with the new series, whatever that may be. MAJOR respect for being so upfront about the harsh criticism on your last video. That takes a level head and some strong self awareness.

I definitely understand the feeling of coming back to something after a long hiatus and trying to make up for lost time by overcompensating in the short term, and it feels like that's what happened with the last video. It's okay, we all do stuff we regret sometimes. And, at the end of the day, don't beat yourself up too much over it, because, remember that random people over the internet are just that: random people over the internet who don't know you personally and only know you for the persona that you put forth online. Basically, obviously you can take criticism and change, and, I'm not saying you're necessarily doing this, but in case you are, don't take it too personally. Here's to a wonderful 2019!
