Please ignore the negative voices. They are not worth your time. I buy expensive yarn and I buy sale yarn. I buy Joanne’s yarn and Michaels. I believe all knitters buy a variety. Sometimes a special projects needs a special yarn!

Please don't feel you need to be apologetic for being successful. You have used your passion and hard work to create a podcast that is very popular. You use this platform to celebrate other makers and creators all the time. Your success has afforded you opportunities that many will never have. Good for you! No one is owed these opportunities. Are you lucky to have them? Sure. Did you work hard to create this luck? Abso-freaking-lutely. I celebrate your success just as you celebrate others. I hope you enjoy every yarn, trip, collaboration, etc. that comes your way.

Love you two wonderful gals and appreciate your youtube meetings. People find that because their comments are not in person that they can say anything. I applaud you for calling those people out.I’m sitting here knitting a pair of slipper with a low cost yarn but on my other needles is a sweater in a high cost yarn. As you said no one’s business but mine. Keep up the wonderful work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love Jodi’s firm talk about “affordability.” Totally agree that negative comments on yarn price/type just perpetuate the problem. You two are so great about making this community inclusive and you don’t owe people anything. Thanks for all you do!

One option for color changing… hold double and marl it yourself! You can hold knit picks palette double to get dream state, or hold lace double to get dyed in the wool, and these can come from scraps, cheaper options, etc. also, people shouldnt shame anyone for spending too much or too little on anything. You guys never shame any yarns, but you like what you like, and that’s fine ❤

I absolutely LOVE that you listen to the concerns of viewers! That said, please do not apologize for spreading the love of all types of yarns at all price points. You have both been instrumental in educating so many of us on the benefits of and differences in various yarns, from weights to how they are made, to dye processes. There ARE other podcasters who focus exclusively on budget-friendly yarns. Viewers can always add these podcasts to their viewing list. I see no reason for you to do anything but DO YOU! Because we love you both! Ignore the negative and keep being your goofy selves!

Ladies, you are capital C classy! The way you responded to the snarky comment about « flogging » Spincycle is so very kind and classy. And, at the same time, good for you for standing up for yourselves. No one should be making negative comments. If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it. I can’t possibly afford to buy everything you talk about, but I don’t take it as you saying « buy it ». It’s more like « here’s a new yarn we discovered and love ». If I love it too, I might buy it. But NEVER have I felt « flogged » to and never have I ever felt that you were negative towards more commercial yarns. Keep coming back ladies, most of us out there just LOVE you! ❤

I'm listening to you guys talk about yarn affordability, and I want to say that I buy at least half of my yarn at the thrift shop. You have to be creative in combining yarn weights and colors, but I have achieved some really great results. I made a summer top with a linen, a cotton/rayon, and a wool/rayon combo that looks awesome and it cost me less than 30 bucks. I also stumbled onto a whole bunch of handspun last winter which I made into a striped sweater with a zip for working in my garden. If I had a podcast I would call it thrifty knits!

I have a dog that was my heart as he got older I kept saving his hair. I lost him in 2020 and was devastated- it took me a year but I finally sat down and spun his hair ( yes I have a spinning whee). I cried the whole time I worked with it, I blended it with some BFL I ended up with a good size ball of two ply yarn and somehow that whole process helped to heal my heart. I crocheted some of the yarn into a boutonniere that I wear on the lapel of my suits that I wear when I’m showing some of my other dogs. So Tanner, my “Bug” is always with me and I have him forever.

What a great show! Thank you so much! The cruise really got me excited! If only my sister would speak English and could come with me. We are German, so we are almost around the cornor. Beeing on tour with knitters from all over the world is really a once-in-a-lifetime-adventure! And another idea I really loved in your show was the idea of auction off sweaters you don't wear anymore. Wonderful! You are so right that the price of a yarn doesn't make a difference. It's your precious time and endless love you put in the project that makes it very special. I think it's very important to remind people again and again. What you choose it not always a question about money. It could be an allergy problem or you need something easy to wash, it might be a question of the weather (Linnen in Alaska is probably not the best idea 🙂) Or you just see a yarn and fall in love, so you don't care what it is and what it costs (I know what I'm talking about here). Thank you for putting your finger on that subject every now and then. Here is a big hug from one of your German fans!

Honestly, I'm knitting a tank top in Knit Picks Swish - it's a cotton/modal blend in the color Serrano and it is delightful. My next shawl is going to be in some handspun that I purchased at a local fiber festival -- it's a merino/camel/silk blend and it's so soft and light. My sweater projects are probably going to be majority Lion Brand Re-Spun (which is recycled polyester) until I use up all the giant skeins I have so that I feel justified in buying their Fisherman's Wool next 😂😂😂 I would love a MAL with you ladies!!
Edited to add that I'm also gift knitting with delightful yarn from Hobbii -- they have a ton of sales all the time! Just to say that if folks are looking for affordable options, they're out there. Knit with what you love!

  • @rebeccaknudsen6190

Spincycle is made and sourced in Washington state. The employees are paid a living wage. It is a proprietary process. Plus it's variable, so each skein different even if it's the same the dye lot. Andrea Mowery uses a lot of her own spun yarn. She substitutes spincycle because she makes her own yarn sometimes, for an approximate comparison.
We have a cat that is so soft that we compare everything to soft as Barry or not as soft as Barry. It reminds me of angora rabbit. It's so funny we save his fur after brushing him.

I love using superwash yarns and cotton, linen, silk blends with wool. It’s hot here in Perth Australia most of the year. 9 months of summer. Yes I love our climate but I also love wearing knitted garments - if I can wear one everyday I will.
So… for me I rarely knit anything held with mohair cause that really limits the duration I can wear it for. It also doubles the cost of a garment… so for me it’s too extravagant and expensive.
I just love knitting and will always use what I want and love regardless of the cost. I don’t want to wear something I always feel guilty about either!!

I don’t think you guys should worry about other people’s budgets. All you are doing is putting yarn out there that you think should get attention. I have a low budget and probably won’t buy spin cycle or super expensive yarn, but what I like is that if I see one of your recommendations on sale or something, I know it’s a good yarn and I can get it then. Keep giving your recommendations. If you think it’s worth it, then it will stick in the back of my mind. Love you guys. I’m a new knitter and new watcher.

When I purchase hand dyed yarn I have learned to set the bright yarn before I use it especially with a lighter color. Jodi you are awesome to do that!

I agree spincycle is expensive. What I do sometimes is purchase a cheaper yarn for the main color yarn and splurge on the colorwork part. Also, the trend to use mohair with a main color can get pricy. You’re purchasing double the amount of yarn.

Oh good grief. Ignore the complainers. I don't like every pattern you both like but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy your discussion of it. If you can't afford spin cycle, fine, move on. The pattern isn't for you. Doesn't mean it shouldn't be discussed!! You do a great job of sharing a variety of yarns, project bags, etc.

Congratulations on your new adventures. I am a viewer of your podcast from day one, and I love it. You have inspired me with many projects, gave me hours of entertainment, “true life stories” etc. I appreciate your efforts that you put into bringing the crafting community together. Personally I am using natural fibres for my projects, often from moderate price point. It is just my comfort zone, and I enjoy every single one of them. To me the successful project is the one that I enjoy wearing, it is practical, goes with other items in my wardrobe and has a design that I feel comfortable in. Sometimes I purchase an indie dye yarn and I got some from Frankie Grey Fibers and I am excited of using it soon. ❤🎉

Love your videos. Of course people have to knit with commercial yarn. I knit for charity and I make blankets, slippers etc and I cannot possible buy “real wool” but I want to give back to my community and help out long term care facilities and for those that are struggling financially and want their kids to have hats and mittens.
Jodie your green sweater looks amazing on you. That Colour is fantastic with your eyes. Tracie your sweater is amazing.

Always, always love your youtube shows. Always get a good chuckle with you, always get inspired by your projects and color choices and always love how inclusive you are. That said, I don’t think you have to super apologize for choosing pricier yarns to showcase. If folks out there can’t afford Spin Cycle or Zauerballs, they should know that they can find affordable yarn in their price range without you always having to bend. Cascade, Lion Brand, Berroco, etc., etc. Come on! You’re sharing your love and the dyers you love and makers you love. You two are super!!

Just now seeing this episode and conversation re options. One: I don't need eternal validation from anyone re my yarn choices. Just not a concern. However, as a 75 year old widow on a limited budget, I simply can't afford the "Ferrari " yarns. Love knowing about them; love seeing the creations inspired by them. That said, I stilll love being stylish and always love excellence and quality, neither of which are exclusive of price. SOOOO, yes, yes, please. More discussion of options---sharing what's out there and reviews of quality.

Omg I am disgusted and laughing about the cat hairballs etc. Hairballs totally gag me, I’ve had many roommates with Cats stepping in one is a special treat. I am crying over the whole discussion. Keeping them coming. This is why i watch you guys. AND I LOVE THE ATTITUDE about not spreading shade. I am soooo over judgmental people and people who just need to stir shit or make others feel bad. UGH! Love you guys love the podcast. Or should i say influencers lol. I am laughing with you guys about that. Seriously we just want to share and knit and talk about knitting right!!! Xoxo. ❤ Tonya

Mikey from The Crochet Crowd just did a short video on “What About ism”. Viewers will complain a yarn he’s using isn’t available where they live, or they like a pattern but they don’t crochet, only knit. He says how he’s learned he can only do so much, and people can do their own research, or follow someone else. So keep being yourselves, using the yarn and products you love. I appreciate your acceptance of all yarn lovers! ❤❤❤

In some Facebook knit group someone posted that cat hair book and people lost their minds. So many claiming how gross it is etc etc. I had to chime in and ask if people actually know what silk is. Because if any fiber is gross it would have to be that one. Haha I adore silk tho and don’t care that it’s worm spit. 😂

I just finished a beautiful colour work sweater that was made with Briggs & Little Duro sport $5.50 ball. Everyone in my knit group loves it. It’s rustic yes but I prewashed the skeins before knitting. The collar bothered my neck so I added a soft wool collar. Love it!
