Fun fact: when Metallica went on tour for this album they toured with a band called Raven that had just released an album called "All For One." They called it the "Kill Em All For One Tour." But here's the best part... on that album Raven also has a song called Seek and Destroy.
I saw them together on that first tour at a club called Coast To Coast here in Baltimore, Md. I was only 15 and snuck into the club underage to see them. I still have my autographed by all 4, copy of Kill 'Em All on vinyl and a cassette copy of their "No Life 'Till Leather" demo that Lars personally gave me at that show. Super cool bunch of dudes. Someone who also stands out in the early Metallica records is their bassist Cliff Burton. He was way ahead of his time, and you can hear him in the back adding the groove and the weird noises, that even to this day a lot of people can’t tell that is actually a bass! Gone way to soon, RIP Cliff!
James was still a little less than two weeks away from turning 20, but close enough. Cliff was the oldest at 21, then Kirk at 20, and Lars (younger than James by just a few months) was also still 19. If Dave had still been with them, he would have been the oldest, also being 21, but closer to 22 than Cliff was. Ron was also 19, and between James and Kirk, birthdaywise. So yeah, most of Metallica (members and ex-members) at that time weren’t even legal drinking age. Not that this fact stopped them, of course.
This was their first album. A handful of these songs were co written by Megadeths Dave Mustaine, and if you all have heard any Megadeth, you can totally hear his influence.
I like both songs. Weirdly, both songs became theme music for wrestlers in WCW in the late 90s. KISS even had a themed wrestler called the KISS Demon. WCW had to have paid a grip for licensing lol.

Santa Monica last night. Seek tonight. You two are on a roll. My band ended every jam session and ever live performance with Seek. We had a country version, a jazz version, a Frank Sinatra version and this version. 🤣 Amber has become an honest to god rocker. She has it running through her veins. Keep on rockin Amber.
He's not playing on the album, he was booted before they recorded it. That's Kirk playing. But Mustaine wrote some of the shit as we all know, and some say he wrote the solo for this song. I can't seem to confirm that though.
It’s me again! For whom the bell tolls!!!!!!!!!seattle 89!!!!! Please!!!!! It’s awesome and the best live version. Or even creeping death!!!! Seattle 89!!! I’ll subscribe if you do both.👍
I think they need to check out the Thing that should not be in Seattle, or Harvester of Sorrow in Seattle. Those two songs are IMO WAY better live than the studio version, and just help prove why James is one of the greatest frontmen of all time.
That James Hetfield sound is partly because he was young, and partly because of how the music is mixed. They didn't put in bass so much in those days. That's why the Black Album was so popular, they cranked up the bass.
agreed, this album has always sounded a bit "tinny" to me. i absolutely love it, it is one of the greatst metal albums of all time anyway, but i would have loved for the production on this album to have been better, with more bass. the live versions of the songs from kill 'em all really show what you are talking about.
I remember the awesome version they did on the Black album tour where James would come down to the audience and get them to scream the chorus!!! (He might have done that before and after, but I was there in San Diego when they filmed the live video!)
The first song I ever heard from Metallica way back around 1985 and still one of my favorites! It’s a must see live song! It require audience participation.
Yes, this is a very young Metallica. Hit the Lights, Four Horseman, Wiplash, Motorbeath, and Metal Malisha are my favs from this album. They used to end their live shows with this song for a while.
This came out my junior year of Hi Skool & I bought the album from our local record shop for $4 & played it on my Pioneer HiFi stereo rack system with 2 tower speakers {pair of 12s} for my buddies & we were all instantly metal heads whether my neighbors liked it or not✌💖☮
1989 Monsters of Rock festival LA Coliseum , Metallica went on during the day, a few songs in they launched into “ Seek and destroy “ the crowd, 80 thousand strong stormed the field the thousands of folding chairs on the floor went flying. The barriers went down and security ran for their lives. It freaked the band out, they stopped playing and left the stage. They came back out after 20 minutes or so and James talked to the crowd calming things down. They went on to play a killer set and I knew Metallica was going to be around for a long time.
Seek & Destroy is their absolute best live song. It has a life of its own live. Now that you know the record version, you HAVE to react to a live performance of this song. Trust me, you'll be blown away.
San Francisco Bay Area in the early 80's. Now that you have heard it, think about what the people looked like that listened to it and went to the clubs to see thrash bands. It was an incredible scene!
This is their first album. If I'm not mistaken this was 1982. This whole album is amazing. You wouldn't have to stop this album from playing. I loved playing this song on guitar. I still play this to this day. I wish I could play this for yall. Yall always make me smile. Can I clone Amber. I need a wife. Hahaha. Just playin. Yall rock. Hi from Texas
It's hard to imagine how this and other early thrash releases sculpted the landscape for today's heavy metal because these classics are rather tame compared to a lot of the more extreme metal bands of today. But back then, as a young teenager when this came out, there was nothing like it. The heaviest stuff most of us knew at the time was Judas Priest and Iron Maiden and bands of that style. This stuff was a slap in the face followed by a kick to the groin. So fast. So heavy. So unlike anything else. The 80s were the best time to come of age for so many reasons, and the music scene was one of them I LOVED your reaction. Amber was making the metal stink ace several times and that was awesome. It's very strange but that metal stinkface happened organically around the world, just like I'm sure it did for you Amber.
Four Horsemen PLEEEEEEEEASE from this same album! The groove is incredible
Oh man, you should check out Mechanix by Megadeth

Santa Monica last night. Seek tonight. You two are on a roll. My band ended every jam session and ever live performance with Seek. We had a country version, a jazz version, a Frank Sinatra version and this version. 🤣
Amber has become an honest to god rocker. She has it running through her veins. Keep on rockin Amber.
Dave Mustaine baby!
Metal horns to Dave!!!! 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
Good call love Dave
He's not playing on the album, he was booted before they recorded it. That's Kirk playing. But Mustaine wrote some of the shit as we all know, and some say he wrote the solo for this song. I can't seem to confirm that though.
Kirk played on all their albums.
Killing is my business!!!
Screaming guitars, are so gratifying! These guys were so young !
Dave Mustain era, the best time.
To bad Dave never played on the recording . He'd been fired and Kirk recruited to join and come do the recordings
@@robertgreen6433 Though he did play on their demo _No Life 'Til Leather," which has this song on it. Just FYI.
It's not the Dave Mustaine era as he was gone
@@deletedhero5579 Lol! He is the one who composed this song.
@@b.bkrueger1394 No he's not this was James Dave wrote 4 songs on the album but not this one.
Yes Jay, this song is off of Metallica's first album, Kill 'Em All, which came out in 1983. James Hetfield was 20 years old.
My exact reaction back in the early 80s....luv it.
This is usually their last encore everytime I have seen them live
Kirk Hammett on guitar
That James Hetfield sound is partly because he was young, and partly because of how the music is mixed. They didn't put in bass so much in those days. That's why the Black Album was so popular, they cranked up the bass.
agreed, this album has always sounded a bit "tinny" to me. i absolutely love it, it is one of the greatst metal albums of all time anyway, but i would have loved for the production on this album to have been better, with more bass.
the live versions of the songs from kill 'em all really show what you are talking about.
Kirk Hammett🎸
I remember the awesome version they did on the Black album tour where James would come down to the audience and get them to scream the chorus!!! (He might have done that before and after, but I was there in San Diego when they filmed the live video!)
The first song I ever heard from Metallica way back around 1985 and still one of my favorites! It’s a must see live song! It require audience participation.
This album was debuted in 1983 so, yes James was still pretty young here.
I bought the Kill'em All album on CD when it was six years old. That was 35 years ago. It never gets old. Hello from northeast Ohio.
I was there Nov 1983 Berkeley, Ca...OG Thrasher. This album...changed everything, especially here in the Bay Area
You guys nailed the picks today! Three great tunes.
Seek & Destroy is their absolute best live song. It has a life of its own live. Now that you know the record version, you HAVE to react to a live performance of this song. Trust me, you'll be blown away.
"spit out the bone" is excellent. drums, riffs and a bass solo
San Francisco Bay Area in the early 80's. Now that you have heard it, think about what the people looked like that listened to it and went to the clubs to see thrash bands. It was an incredible scene!
LOVE Metallica!! So much fun watching you two rock out!
I was around 9 yrs old in '84 and heard this in my cousins basement. Life long Metal fan since then!
Moore , Oklahoma here! Great video!
Nice. Glad to see you doing some early stuff again. This is their first album.
The 80s were the best time to come of age for so many reasons, and the music scene was one of them
I LOVED your reaction. Amber was making the metal stink ace several times and that was awesome. It's very strange but that metal stinkface happened organically around the world, just like I'm sure it did for you Amber.
Well , before recording this album the lead was Dave Mustain from megadeth. When in studio was Kirk Hammet, still current lead guitarist.
