    Not only was Sam a great family man, but he went on to be elected mayor of the Shire for seven consecutive terms. Merry and Pippin went on to become court officials for the kingdoms of Rohan and Gondor, respectively, and Rosie became a lady of the court for Arwen. Gimli and Legolas finally healed the rift between dwarves and elves, and they, along with Sam at the end of his life after Rosie died, eventually were granted passage to the undying lands where Frodo and Bilbo went. Sam because he was actually a ring bearer for a while (it was a few days in the book) and Gimli because of the unique friendship he had with Legolas. It's safe to say Gimli got to see Lady Galadriel again.

    Something not covered in the movies... something that gives the story a little something extra special...
    Sam has a long and happy life, lots of kids. Merry and Pipin have lots of adventures and when they die, they are buried next to Aragorn.
    Sam and Gimli are granted passage into the West they sail into Valinor, and Legolas builds a ship for the 3 of them to sail into The West. I don't think it is said in any books if Sam and Frodo saw each other again, but I'd like to believe they lived the rest of their lives among Elves.

    Denethor, in the book, isn’t a raging psychopath until Faramir is brought in. He isn’t a likable character, but he is someone you can respect. He has been trying to get the city prepared for war, and he didn’t try to murder his son. Denethor had a palantir and used it to spy on Sauron. Sauron used his palantir to feed Denethor half-truths and lies, amplifying Denethor’s fear and despair, eventually driving him mad.

      And the worst part is if you don't read the books/Simillaron, you have no idea why this was as big a sin as it was. You're not overwhelming the emissary of Eru (which is Gandalf at this point) with a word of command or power or whatever it is to shatter his staff.

  • @nefariousarcher2484
    @nefariousarcher2484 2 месяца назад +4

    That staff breaking thing is perhaps one of the biggest sins in what is perhaps one of the greatest movies ever made. You'll notice PJ does that a lot with Gandalf. Downplays him, downplays his strength to make other members of the fellowship shine because he doesn't like magic.
    In reality, its a matter of the authority the Witch King simply doesn't have. He's a king of men. Sorcerer, sure. Empowered a bit by Sauron? Sure. But Gandalf is a demigod. Sent back and empowered by LOTR God himself. No one is breaking Gandalf's staff like that. They should have stood true to how it happened in the book...a standoff with the Witch King withdrawing when the Rohirrim arrived.

    • @brettpeacock9116
      @brettpeacock9116 Месяц назад

      The Istari (Wizards) ALL had their powers limited by the Valar and were sent to Middle Earth in the shape of older men. Sauron arrived in his Maiar form and had few if any limits on his power. The Istari were enjoined from using their full abilities, Being instructed to care for, and advise men and elves, but not to fight their battles for them. But Saruman, possibly with the aid of Sauron, broke that compact, so Gandalf was sent back to complete his tasks and was given exactly the amount of power that he needed, enough to break Saruman's staff (Crippling his wizardry) but Sauron did imbue the Witch King's sword with just enough power to break Gandalf's staff in return. (my theory about the LOTR trilogy.)

    @tonyusa5509 2 месяца назад +2

    1) After the last king of Gondor died, for generations, only Stuarts were holding the power, patiently waiting for the return of a King ( descended from Isildur's line). Denathor was just a Stuart, not a king. He was partially influenced by Sauron, through the Palantiri (the stone). Sauron was showing only defeat and death to Denathor, so he got pessimistic.
    2) the combat between Gandalf and the Witch King doesn't happen in the book. In the book Gandalf just stands in front of the Witch King, blocking his passage, when grond broke the door. The Witch King, at that point, hears the horns of Rohan and goes there to help the orcs.
    In reality, even if infused with some power, the Witch King is still a human spirit and he would never engage in a duel Gandalf. Gandalf is an Angel of Tolkien's world (Maiar) and he has too much power for the Witch King. Gandalf the White could defeat Sauron himself.
    Sauron, Saruman and the Barlog are Maiar too.
    Sauron was the slave Liutenent of Melkor and the Barlogs were Melkor's bodyguards. Melkor is Tolkien's Lucifer. The most powerful being in Tolkien's world, after Eru Iluvatar (Tolkien's God).
    Melkor corrupted Mairon to Sauron, fire spirits to Barlogs, Elves to Orcs, Ents to Trolls, animals to beasts, poisoned all Middle Earth, corrupted humans, destroyed mountains, vegetation, fought all the other Valar (semi-God like Melkor).
    In the Ancient Ages and in the first Age Melkor destroyed everything and everyone, until, at the end of the first age, a unite force of Valar, Maiar, Elves, Men and all the creatures defeated a Melkor without power because he disseminate himself in all world and creatures.
    In the second Age, Sauron saw the opportunity to follow his Master's steps and try to dominate the world. He was then destroyed by Frodo, at the end of the third Age, after about 8000 years (second age + third age)

    One thing I wanna point out (roughly 20:00 ). When the Witch King says "No man can kill me", I feel he more so refers to the race of men (regardless of gender), but (unsure if this was the extended edition or not) Merry stabbed the Witch King to the leg first, therefore wounding him, as Merry, being a hobbit, is in fact not a man (again, race, not gender).

    Just so you know: Sam will do many more great deeds for the Shire and his family. But eventually, he will follow the invite to the Undying Lands, as he was a ringbearer, too. He will reunite with Frodo. But that’s all we know.

    There are The Hobbit movies, which are pretty enjoyable, still to watch. If you would like to read more from the same author, JRR Tolkien's son and other children have made a years-long project of organizing and publishing all the other stories Tolkien wrote, and there are some really good ones. I doubt we'll ever see them on film, but they're worth getting into. One of my favorites is called Farmer Giles of Ham. He also wrote some King Arthur tales. Anyway, thank you for the reaction, Rico. It's always fun watching a film with you. Take care.

    You interpreted Frodo's snatching the the ring away from Sam as possibly "evil" taking over. It was in fact love for Sam. Frodo saw that Sam was hesitating to give up the ring, having held it for just a few hours. Frodo was correct in that it would have destroyed the Sam we all love. It destroyed the innocent, smiling Frodo that we all loved.

    Theoden and Denethor, at least in the movie, are diametric opposites. One rides into battle with his army, the other dines while his last son goes on a suicide mission. Even their names are opposites.

    I don't know if this is too late a comment, but you need to be granted the honor to sail to Valinor. Bilbo and Frodo have already kept The Ring for too long. The elves had to make sure the evil has been purged. Sam held it for some time, Gimli was just Legolas' best friend. So I don't
    know.

    Please do not underestimate the value of Frodo.
    Frodo is a tragic hero. He is not as glamorous as Sam, and because his spirit continues to be tortured, he will also do things that are annoying to the audience. People may even praise Sam more when they read the red book in the future.
    But if Sam is the MVP, then Frodo must be the MVP of MVPs.
    His physical and mental wounds cannot be healed, so he can only leave his hometown and go to the land of elves to spend the rest of his life healing his wounds. He can no longer have his own family and life; but Sam can still marry a wife and have children to enjoy the happiness of a family.
    Middle-earth relied on Frodo to sacrifice himself so that all mankind did not have to sacrifice.
    Therefore, Galadriel said that Frodo knew that this task would cost him his life. Maybe he survived the ending on the surface, but in fact he did pay with his own life.
    If Sam and Frodo switched roles, Sam might not be able to last that long.
    Remember, Frodo was able to put down The One Ring just as easily as Sam in the beginning,
    He carried The One Ring for about a year, not a few minutes.
    Sam only held it for a very short time, and he already hesitated slightly when returning the ring.
    (The One Ring can turn all good ideas into bad ones. Therefore, people like Boromir and Denethor, who are extremely elite, extremely powerful and eager to achieve something, are more likely to be affected. Although the Hobbits are corrupted more slowly due to their simple desires, they will still be affected. )
    Moreover, Sam does not have as strong a sense of empathy and compassion as Frodo.
    Given Sam's character he would probably kill Gollum.
    Then The One Ring can never be destroyed!
    It was Frodo's empathy and compassion that led to the destruction of The One Ring, not any great force or stratagem.
    The author has said that no one in Mount Doom can destroy The One Ring with their own consciousness.
    Although The One Ring was born in Mount Doom, and the molten flames there can melt it, it also means that The One Ring will be the most powerful in this place!
    The One Ring was ultimately destroyed by its own evil intentions and the hands of Eru (GOD in the story).
    Frodo's task was to bring it to that place, and he persisted until the end.
    Of course, it was important to have Sam's support in the process, and Sam was with him until the end. But it would be too much to assume that Sam is more important than Frodo.

    Now my friend, allow me to suggest a clip for you....
    You have seen the movie, now it is time to hear the author read his work to you.
    Look up 'Tolkien reads Ride of the Rohirrim' its here on YT. Certain folks have set clips of the movie to the recorded audio read by the man himself.
    I only tend to suggest it to those who clearly are invested in the story and might want to hear more.
