The rules of being a costumed character have remained pretty much unchanged to this day.
It's important to know the character that you're performing as. You need to be convincing. Don't just stand there and do little to nothing. This is what separates a character from someone in a costume.

It's mostly true because of laziness, while some people just don't want to perform as Chuck.
On the flip side, there are people who WANT to become Chuck and they are truly AMAZING performers. They're out there, but there need to be more.

I have an old Chuck E. Outfit like this. The tie was glued to the head. My brother got it from the Manger of a Showbiz Pizza. It doesn't have the yellow hat band anymore.

How to put on the Chuck E. Cheese walkaround character nowadays:
1. Start with the blue jeans. Push your feet through the pant legs and put the shoulder straps over your shoulders.
2. Put on the red sneakers. Push the cuffs of the jeans through the top of the shoes. Tie the laces if necessary.
3. The hands must go on before putting on the shirt.
4. The shirt goes on next. The sleeves should cover your arms.
5. The head is the last thing to go on. Make sure it's the right adjustment.
6. When you go out on the floor, don't talk. Your voice is different from (sadly) Jaret Reddick's.
7. Expect to get beaten up by both kids and fans of Avenger and PTT/Showbiz Chuck.
8. No signing autographs or writing while in costume. We don't yet have autograph training like Disney does. If a child does ask why Chuck can't write, here are some suggestions for things you can say, for preserving the magic.
"He's so busy performing that he doesn't have time to sign autographs right now. Maybe later."
"He's practicing his handwriting just like you are."

For its part, parent company Showbiz Pizza released a statement denying that Brannan has been fired. Instead, they said they were simply replacing him for one new advertising campaign.
"Brannan was not fired from Chuck E. Cheese's, rather we simply chose to utilize new voice talent for the original music we have written as part of a TV advertising campaign in partnership with The Richards Group," the statement reads. "On several occasions prior to the release of Chuck E.'s new single last week, we communicated to Brannan that his primary responsibilities with our in-store entertainment group would not change."

This was so cool -- thanks for posting!! I miss the original Chuck E. Cheese's Pizza Time Theaters as envisioned by Nolan Bushnell, so it's awesome to be able to see them in the old clips you have. I look forward to checking them all out.
This is a fun way to make a training tape. Having child fun, even if it's only the employees that will see it. That's how you know they cared.
And then Rockstar Chuck came by. Most now just walk out and throw a bunch of tickets emotionlessly, and then they go back inside.
This video helped me out quite a bit in learning to perform the kangaroo mascot I perform as for the local baseball team. And yes, quite a few kids do pull my tail when I'm in the costume!
I hope the people in this video back then would look back on this 😃

I got to be Chuck when I worked at his place in High School. The thing I didn't like: they never washed the costume. There was a guy who worked in the kitchen who didn't take too many showers, and you could always tell when he wore the suit during that day.

A good technique if the kids were being bad: Give them an intense "bear hug." The kids get the message that you're bigger and can crush or suffocate them at will, and the parents think you're just being friendly.

This guide didn't help me. I put on the costume perfectly and was as cheery as could be! All my co-workers weren't very happy though and the customers were very angry at me. Apparently I was obstructing the show! I simply don't know what to do.

This video was... actually, sort of helpful. I'm thinking about auditioning to be one of the mascots at my university, and I think I have a little bit of an idea of what to expect when putting on a costume, although the designs will probably be much different.
I feel like Chuck should be able to put a small bit of cake on the birthday child's face! It's part of the tradition! (Or maybe that's just me and how I had my birthdays? Because I didn't consider my birthday complete without one)

I'm in the UK and we don't have Chuck E. Cheese's over here, Just became really interested in it with the Nolan Bushell connection.
We have similar resturants like Wimpy (with it's Beefeater character) (and the more usual McDonalds, Burger King) Etc. but nothing with animatronics.
