Troy plays the Uilleann bag pipes.
Uilleann pipes are a type of bagpipe that originated in Ireland. They are sometimes called Irish bagpipes and are the national bagpipe of Ireland1. Unlike the Scottish Highland Pipes, which are inflated when the player blows into the bag, the Uilleann Pipes are inflated by a small set of bellows held under the player’s arm2. The bellows not only relieve the player from the effort needed to blow into a bag to maintain pressure, they also allow relatively dry air to power the reeds, reducing the adverse effects of moisture on tuning and longevity1. The chanter is played with the fingers like a flute and has a range of two full octaves, including sharps and flats1. The three drones are simple open pipes; they constantly play three notes spread an octave apart. The three regulators are closed pipes. Untouched, they do not sound, but they have keys that can be opened by the piper’s wrist action (or hand, if they take one hand off the chanter). Each regulator key sounds a different note when opened. The regulator keys are aligned so that several may be pressed simultaneously. These enable the piper to play simple chords, giving rhythmic and harmonic accompaniment as needed.
I really enjoy this song...must be the Irish blood in me!

Nightwish's instrumental compositions are all beautiful. I always wanted them to play Moondance from second album Oceanborn live as well. But they never performed it during whole time of their existence. It's a great instrumental too, forever on my playlist, just like whole album.

Uilleann Pipes are driven by a bellows under the right elbow that gets pumped up while playing and the air flows into a holding bag under his left elbow from there the forced air flows down into through the many reeds thus creating the sound. its mic-d up .

My favourite performance, perhaps because the videography on the pipes is so good?
    Anyway its better than Wacken
Troy plays Uilleann Pipes and Irish Low Whistle and tin whistle
BTW this THE concert to watch for Slow Love Slow (you may have done it, I need to look...)

You couldn't see Troy playing the bagpipes because he never played them, at least in Nightwish. He always played uilleann pipes, just like in this video.

Uilleann pipes ARE bagpipes. Inflated using the elbow unlike the Highland pipes if course, but still pipes powered by a pressurised air bag

      @@SokolRock No I don't. You can't say a bagpipe is not a bagpipe. That's not nitpicking, it's pointing out a solid fact.
