    Thanks for publishing this video it has definitely helped me work on my jetboat which is pretty much the same as yours (96 bayliner jazz powered by the same motor as yours) My motor is freshly rebuilt and bored .030 over but hasn’t even been ran yet because I couldn’t figure out what was preventing it from running since it got rebuilt. I was just getting ready to start taking the motor back apart but thanks to watching your video I figured out that my rev limiter is bad. I couldn’t even get it to sputter until I unplugged my rev limiter. Believe it or not it was turnkey prior to the rebuild even with chewed up cylinders and pistons and next to nothing for compression which I discovered after I already bought it and tried to actually run it on the water. Rookie mistake obviously on my part not to do a compression test and water test prior to buying it but I was fooled by how easily it fired up and seemed to run good. So now it spits and sputters with lots of smoke but still doesn’t quite fire up but now that you included setting the timing in your video I’m going to check and adjust mine and hopefully that will bring life to this motor. I actually have my motor on a stand right now and was thinking about rebuilding my carbs while I’m at it. I went looking for your video of rebuilding the carbs but couldn’t find it. Am I just missing it or is that not on here yet?

      I haven't gotten that video done yet, I should try to finish it up soon, they are very simple carbs.

    Hey there, I recently purchased a ‘93 Sea Ray Rayder Sport Jet from Wisconsin Dells that ran last summer but needs its carbs cleaned and won’t start for us. This restoration video was absolutely inspiring! However, I have NONE of your know-how😔… Is there any way you could point me in the right direction, or tips where to take it?? I would pay handsomely to get this beauty back to her former glory! 14:20.
    Love what you’re doing!

      Hello! The first thing I would check is the ignition system.
      You can either pull the plugs and use a tool like I did in the video: amzn.to/3yde7fh
      Or you can just try to start it, using a little starting fluid or some gas dribbled into the carbs.
      Once you've verified if there is spark, pulling the carbs off is fairly simple, and I have some video footage of rebuilding the carbs on my boat, I just haven't taken the time to figure out whats missing and put it all together or re-shoot any missing information, but I will work on that soon and get a video out about rebuilding those so you can watch and rebuild your carbs. They are fairly simple on these.

    Hi do you know how oil I need add to make 5 gallons of gasoline

    • @trythistv
      @trythistv  5 месяцев назад +2

      If you're wanting 50:1 ratio that is typical for jetskis, outboards and jet boats like this you will want to add 12.8 ounces of 2 stroke oil to 5 gallons of gas! Hope this helps!

    Do you have the part numbers for the ride plate gasket and the screws. Mine has the same issue.

    • @trythistv
      @trythistv  5 месяцев назад +1

      I sure do!
      Screws 10-824830 : ebay.us/9XGgcE
      Seal 830123-1 : ebay.us/2UTyMt
      Those were the part numbers I ordered that worked great for me. If you look at those links, some of the listings on ebay have more than one screw so you can get a deal like I did and have some spares.

    I had the very same issue with a 90hp i can send you the video i had the same issues with the gasket i didn't replace it i just put it back on it doesn't go very fast do you this it the gasket i need to replace?

      Is the video on youtube somewhere? I'd be happy to see if I can notice anything from it. If its revving up but not going fast, that seal is a likely culprit, there are some other things it could be, but I'd start with making sure that is sealed up real well

    Is the engine not starting the only thing a bad rev limiter will do? If unplugged, will it run normally?

    • @trythistv
      @trythistv  Месяц назад

      If I recall correctly, it would make the spark intermittent sometimes, would randomly be fine, other times no spark, when unplugged it would run normally but if anything went wrong and the throttle stuck or something then it would likely go kaboom in a very bad way

      I've seen them non-running for around 1500, and in running condition for around 4k, really nice for around 6k, I'm hoping somewhere inbetween those, mine is running really good, carbs freshly rebuilt, everything gone through mechanically (pump oil changed and all that), and I've got a basically new bimini top for it, new stereo, speakers and all that so I'm hoping for 5k or so

    @trythistv Hello! Had a quick question to for my boat that is similar and is currently experiencing no spark and was wondering if you could could point me in the right direction. It is a 1996 Sea Rayder F16 with a 120xr engine. I have removed the rev limiter but I am still not experiencing a spark. Next step I am planning to take is to replace the voltage regulator and the brains of the ignition system. Have read that a bad voltage regulator could allow the current to burn out the CDM Module Ignition Assembly. Would you recommend this course of action or would you suggest testing or replacing any other components. I have also tested the safety and on/off switch with a multimeter to ensure proper function. I do have the new red stator fitted as well but unsure if any additional work was done as I still have an original flywheel as well. Any guidance on where to go would help greatly! Thanks

    • @trythistv
      @trythistv  11 дней назад

      I would find a copy of the cdi electronics troubleshooting manual, older versions can be located online for free usually, and they cover the testing process very well. I honestly would start by testing the stator resistance and dva output, then work your way down. Kill switch and revlimiter are often issues, a lot of times a bad voltage regulator doesn't burn things out in my experience but can cause a no spark condition, so I'd disconnect that (it's a step in the cdi manual too) the 120xr is basically a Chrysler/force outboard if I'm remembering correctly. Hope that gets you going in a direction. I'm not sure the red stator will work properly without the updated flywheel but you should have some spark, just perhaps at the wrong times like mine was.

      @trythistv Was able to get the engine started and took it out on the water. Was able to idle around successfully but the stator definitely needed to be replaced. Working on getting it swapped out now but having issues with the wiring and was wondering if you could assist. When I removed the red stator it had yellow wires (which I have connected to the new stator), a green/white wire and a white wire. The new stator has a red/white, red, blue, and blue/white where I am unsure where they connect. Would you be able to provide any guidance as to where these could connect?

    Mate I have the same one. Engine was rebuilt runs great but won’t go more than 10-11mph. Any idea where I can start looking. Many say wear ring. Thank you

    • @trythistv
      @trythistv  2 месяца назад

      Does it rev up and not go, or does it feel like the engine is just lugging and not making power?
      I had cavitation (feels like a slipping clutch, engine revs but doesn't make the boat go faster) and it turned out to be the ride plate was letting air into the pump.
      The wear rings on these are stainless steel unlike the plastic rings used by Seadoo, so it is possible, but I would look up in the pump from underneath or from the back and see if you can see a big gap around the impeller before you start digging into replace the wear ring.
      I'd be looking for air intrusion if you're getting cavitation.

    • @LEFTHOOQ
      @LEFTHOOQ 2 месяца назад

      @@trythistv it revs and goes, it just doesn’t reach a faster speed than 10-14 mph. It sounds like it’s working fine. Could it be a wear ring ?

    • @trythistv
      @trythistv  2 месяца назад +1

      @@LEFTHOOQ If its revving up and sounds like its running fine then it is something related to the pump. The wear ring is a possibility but rare on these due to being a stainless steel wear ring. I'd inspect the wear ring with a flashlight and see how it looks.
