When I first got to RGA and John had us doing positional sparring (mount, turtle, open, standing) I hated it but the improvements you make in such a short amount of time is worth it. Feel so much more comfortable attacking/defending from all the positions. What else is cool is now since we don't just do open sparring I can choose a technique I want to improve on for each round which makes the learning curve that much easier since i'm improving upon four skills in one session.
That sounds alike an awesome experience you had in the US. It's always a pleasure hearing your perspectives, enjoyable and informative alike. Topic ideas: Psychological side of dealing with fatigue during sparring e.g not panicking when gassed out in bad positions (beginner and expert alike), breathing and energy efficiency as an overarching topic e.g as a beginner i often catch myself squeezing/clenching my muscles unnecessarily or holding my breath/shallow breaths when sparring (I try my best to "relax" but sometimes find it difficult), or just gassing out drilling guard passing for e.g (this seems very much beginner problems but maybe can relate in some way for better grapplers?).
I love the sit down talk format man, would you consider micro interviews in this format with grapplers in NZ, maybe with a similar list of questions everytime to speed through for perspectives in between hobbyists to competitors?
Very interesting concepts, thank you very much for sharing this, i watched it from start to finish withiut blinking 🙂, my quesrion would be how would you present the importance of john DANAHER's work to a public who doesn't know much about its value.
Thank you! To answer your question, I think that's one of the reasons I made this video. A lot of his teaching is based in really sound teaching philosophy. As someone who had been a teacher for a decade, I'm really stoked to see it in the BJJ space where the quality of instruction can vary massively
Great video. Great to know. This insight is very helpful. I live in a the town where there is no BJJ club. We have a whatsapp group of keen people and unfortunately because there are no instructor or higher belts, as a blue belt i am the guy setting the class. I will try to implement these tips: Serious drilling (less techniques), positional sparing and variable timing hiding the clock. Do you know of any app for timing rounds?
Hey bud! Any interval timer app will do or even just the stopwatch function on your phone can do it. Hope you find this kind of stuff helpful to you and your training buddies 😊
Looks like you learnt his hairstyle too
We may have exchanged notes.
Fascinating! Cheers bro.
My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed it.

Love these suggestions! Super keen to talk about any and all of these so keep an eye out and I'll tackle them in some videos soon! Thanks bud.
