- Audemars Piguet famously changed the trajectory of the watch industry in the 1970s. They released a watch unlike anything the "luxury" watch market had ever seen - or ever knew it could want. This version of the groundbreaking Royal Oak is one of 45 pieces. It's defining feature is an exposed Tourbillon movement. And it's price tag is just shy of $100,000. Is it worth it? We think so....
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Tourbillon is available in the Theo & Harris watch shop: theoandharris....

In today's episode, Christian unboxes one of the newest additions to the T&H Watch Shop, an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Tourbillon worth almost $100k!!
The watch is a true masterpiece. Three things stand out as essential to understanding this about the watch. The first is the history, where the Royal Oak became the first luxury watch to be a) a sports watch and b) completed in steel. Second, we must consider the complexity of the tourbillon. A complication designed to counteract the impact of the gravity on a mechanical movement. To make one ultra thin on top of it is truly special. Also, we must consider how a product is more than the sum of its parts. The piece's history is essential, and the ultra-thin tourbillon is a magnificent complication, but ultimately, it's the entire package that makes this watch special.
The watch is 8.85mm, a near ultra thin size, even more impressive given the complication. It's 41mm in diameter, with some of the best case finishing in the industry. The movement is the caliber 2924 is a stunning piece in only 4.6mm in height, featuring a power reserve visible on the caseback. This all comes together to create one hell of a piece that, given its price point, is actually on the entry-level end of luxury tourbillon watches making it, even at almost $100k, a value prop.
The way you say tourbillon is hilarious. Love the watch!
Fabio Stefana i like how he says it; is it incorrect ?
Love the power reserve on the open case back.
At 100k this is such a value proposition
It's objectively not more than 5 times the watch a 'standard' steel Royal Oak is. Yet it's utterly captivating and, if I had that kind of money, subjectively it could be. And what's fascinating is that that fits perfectly with the vision behind the Royal Oak in the first place.
This is one of the greatest AP models in my opinion. Along with the 15305, and the Openwerks
15407 >>>>>>> 15305
I still can’t get over how this is worth double the pride of a solid AP gold brick.
Enjoyed the video. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone at T&H.
After recent content; they really 180’d their style
You can pickup a JLC Reverso Tourbillion for $30k pre-owned. So yes 100k is excessive for this.
You could of started 10 Theo and Harris with that cash! Beautiful watch
Loved hearing its history! Fab visual the movement of the tourbillion
would like to ask if there is any connection between piaget and audemars piguet?
Audemars Piaget. Kind of rolls off the tongue.
If you paid almost 100k, what are your profit margins like?
Yeah, if he is selling that watch for $98,500 he must have acquired it for at most $90,000, probably at the 80-ish.
@@rodrigodeoliveiraleite5129 Probably less than that, but honestly I dont really care he has to make his money too. Also 98,500 is a bit lower than what most places are charging for this watch anyways
@@ElliotDrinksWater I don't care either. But I do care for him to lie when he said that he paid almost 100k for the watch.
Honestly he probably didn’t - understand that there is so much back work to running a business and he’s effort and work and how many hands he had to shake to get that watch into the shop- so yes possibly he did pay less than 100K but his time and effort to give us content, videos, and a opportunity for a amazing watch is worth more than that. I honestly don’t have 100k to drop, but I do understand everything else that goes into how many steps go into a getting a product for customers. Also anyone who buys/sells watches if your doing a good job you’ll never break even same with anything in business! Not trying to argue just a really rude question if you support the team!
Could have been acquired as part of a trade
Do any tourbillion have a second hand?
It would be a bit redundant since a lot of tourbillons rotate once per minute anyways. I think I've seen some before that have the second hand mounted on the tourbillon cage
Saoirse Frawley Yes. Many Tourbillons have a second hand index on the cage of the Tourbillon itself - since it revolves 1x/min.
Most dont, however the Omega Deville Tourbillion is designed so that the tourbillion itself is the seconds hand
i think it's not as classy after they drilled a hole in the middle of it and slapped a turb in it
The screws inside the case is not alligned, it can't be unseen.
I think the Vacheron Constantine Overseas Tourbillion is the best value. At $85K, I think it is probably built a bit better and has a better movement.
why don't buy both?
VC has no equal
Where’s the Anna???
I like that lighter as always ;-) Compliments the watch beautifully!
I actually disliike this incarnation of the Royal Oak. I prefer the standard dial. I also prefer the skeletonised dial more. Not sure 41mm suits this watch either but I guess it's ok for larger wrists
What an incredible watch!!
I don’t know why you tease us with this piece when 90% of us can’t even afford to try it on!
This might be the most incredible time piece you've ever had in the shop...
Christian, what I wanna know is where did you get those gorgeous brown chevron patterned pants??
Simply put, that watch is bad ass. 😍
Back then I’d get the Jaguar. Today I’d get the Jaguar. But what do I know, I’m just a Rolex guy.
I have always been a fan of your content and was one of your VERY early followers. And since I know you can take constructive criticism, might I suggest going back to your roots a little more with your content. I used to watch each and every one of your uploads but over the last several months, every notification I get from you guys is a video talking about 50k, 75k, 100k watches or watch collections. It out of the realm of what your base is after imo, but perhaps your market statistics prove otherwise. Personally for me, you have lost a regular viewer due to the huge jump up market every since you got that sponsorship money. Just saying.
Now that's a big boy watch.
What is the point of having the sophistication of a tourbillon when the watch has no second hand ? It could be as inaccurate as an SKX009 and you would still no be able to see it.
one seven mine wasn’t. Lost 20/25 seconds a day, which is why I flipped it
I have mixed feelings about a tourbillon on a sports watch. On one hand, sure - a watch with one is cooler than one without. On the other, it cuts against the sporty casual vibe which makes the RO the RO. Not saying I don't like it ... I just don't know.
haha, when your such a watch guy that you whiten your teeth to become luminous!! BUT I do love your channel, keep up the good work ;)
100k what a waste . I would buy a duplex property over this . Is it platinum metal or white gold?
You're a Heavy Hitter now 😁
Tourbillon's make so much sense on a wristwatch..... ummmm no!! That said I'd still love to have it!!
Tor-bi-on
Not attempting to be mean but just a tip.
I do not like tourbillons and watches that show the movement from the front. It is like a car, I appreciate the engineering and design of my motor but the car looks better with the hood down. Then again I think that the movement could be visible from the back.
Interesting, the first watch i see on your wrist that does not fit you well...
Well it depends on who you ask.
For someone that likes the watch then yes.
For me, hell no.
AP would have to pay me 100 000$ to walk around with something like that.
The movement is great, but the rest of the watch does absolutely nothing for me.
Denis Spratt, for most watch enthusiasts, this is the most influential and one of the most recognizable watch in the world. You have to see it in person to appreciate how all the facets of watch catches and reflects light. Genta is an absolute genius. My 15500. imgur.com/a/iFyI4Gu
Tony Fu Tony Fu i kind of agree with Dennis the design doesnt really do it for me. You are right when you say most watch enthusiasts love this watch but i feel its mostly hyped simply because the generation of watch geeks idolize Genta. Honestly the Nautilaus is better in every way(imo) i feel royal oak was gentas rough draft and nautilus was his 2.0 refined, best and final. Having said that to each there own. The beauty of watch collecting is indavualism and wearing what you love while still being able to openly discuss horology.
@@tonyfu2200 yes for most watch enthusiasts this is a important watch. I am a enthusiasts myself, but this and most other sports and divers does absolutly nothing for me. They might be brilliant watches, but i don't care for that type of design.
Denis Spratt Totally agree. While I appreciate the horological significance of the RO imo AP has coasted way too long on this watch. Also, imo, this watch is not really a looker. Identifiable, yes. Good looking, I don’t think so.
@@wakajumba Yeah. That's the way i feel about most sports watches.
They are just not for me.
Give me a Laurent Ferrier Galet Square, Vacheron Constantin Historiques American 1921, Urban Jurgensen The Alfred or something elegant like that instead.
That is more to my taste.
This watch is uninspiring. They just threw a turbillion open heart. Not much different from the $200 open heart automatics from Bulova, which are actually more artistic than this piece in imo
if you went to seton hall and wear belgian shoes, you're a nouveau try-hard
Royal oaks are beautiful. They just look like a mans man watch, if that makes sense.
All credibility for being qualified to sell this watch shattered by not being able to pronounce Tourbillon.
Overpriced.....
You paid 100K USD for this watch? LOL You definitely overpaid!
👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼
there is no holy trinity, Rolex is the only holy watch brand!! RO is just a Hype, to fragile and a scratch magnet. but i love the bracelet! RO will never last as long as a Rolex will. so why pay that much for a RO??
Nice shit!
