In general, I never comment a video on RUclips. But I've watched a lot of your videos today, and each time I couldn't help but think that your content is incredible and of a very high level of quality. It's a reference for me. Thank you so much for doing this :)
I have looked at a LOT of videos and tutorials for recording and processing guitar in DAWs, and this one is by far the best I've seen. Your reasoning is clear, and I can see each step in the process. Thank you for your excellent work. I just subscribed to your channel, and will check out your music.
Thanks for putting this together! This is exactly what I was looking for! I was able to fix some key things I was doing the wrong way and im getting much better signals. Keep on keeping on my man!
I'm plugging my guitar through the interface directly into my Logic Pro. Do you have any videos on this subject? Everyone shows bells and whistles and all the cool stuff. No one shows this most basic thing. I have a handful of simple things getting in my way. Do you have a simple video that explains things on a 5th grade level?
Really useful and well explained video - exactly what I need as I am trying to learn Pro Logic with my acoustic guitar. And YES - I would love that follow up video (flexitime quantisation) ! :)
Hi Charles, great content.. Just starting to record guitar in Logic for the first time. The song has a number of sections with song modulated sequences etc. Recording guitar in one take is hard for me right now, my thoughts were to record in either separate regions with some cross fading to smooth out the transitions but the nuisances are driving me crazy (also volume variation) Should I just record each section as a separate track? Then I can tweak the parameters for the best mix? This may be obvious but I’m stuck, I’d also like to follow best practice based on your guidance.. cheers, Roy
Thank you so much for an informative and educational tutorial! I've used the "guitar track", when recording guitars (both el and acoustic), but I see that you just use a regular audio track, and add plugins. Is both ways workable in your opinion, or should I start doing it in your way? I can still add effects like EQ and compressor if I choose a guitar track. But again, thank you for the tutorials! It helps me a lot!
Hey Mark, thanks for subbing and good question. To be honest, it's a personal choice really. I'm used to recording straight into an audio channel because sometimes I'm recording from an actual amp too and a pedalboard so I like the signal coming in clean but I don't think there is a difference at all. When you add a guitar track is there anything that is default on the plugin chain?
@@CharlesCleyn Thanks for good answer! When I add a guitar track, I think that everything is default on the plugins. The noise gate, pedalboard, amp, EQ and compressor are automatically added, and default. I can edit and change them in any way I want. I hope this was an understandable answer to your question:-)
Yes definitely! I assume logic is just making that easy for people who want to get up and running quickly with the guitar. Happy to help! Come back with any questions if you have them.
Recording guitar on Logic Pro X is great! I actually never tried plugging my electric guitar directly into my audio interface because I already have a nice guitar amplifier and 4x12 Marshall cab with gt-75 celestial speakers so I have been learning about techniques to mic my guitar speaker cabinet with 1 or 2 microphones. I know selecting the guitar option when creating a template is only fir plugging directly into the interface. So I select the audio option for micing my cab and the software instrument track for recording my piano keyboard. I always wondered what the external midi option could be used for with my piano keyboards midi connection.
Hi Charles, my friend sent me an album in a wav file which they recorded in a local studio. But when i hear it on my imac it sounds like not so good maybe due to the tracks is too little. So i try to add some tracks such as strings and few more sounds effect. Can you show me how in logic pro x? It sounds a bit empty here and there and the singer out of pitch also. I am from Singapore.
Hi charles, i have been struggling to record my guitar on logic pro using Duet 2 for mac, but i see no signal of my guitar going to logic pro and duet. But i can still record my voice using dynamic microphone. Do i need apogee maestro 2 this to work? I really appreciate it if you can help me
Excellent tutorial, you know how to teach, well done. A small detail: the background hiss and general noise of the whole program was disrupting, I’m sure you’ll appreciate the feedback comment.
Your videos are awesome :) I'm doing music production and performance in college and because of the pandemic I'm really lacking an understanding in production. I've been watching your videos and they really help (I'm autistic and have learning difficulties) but your videos go at a great pace and you always rephrase what you are saying in a clear way :) thank you so much for videos like this!
Thanks for this, Charles... would you "normalize" your seemingly too low volume recording? Or is it better to use your EQ and Compressors to gain some volume if you needed /wanted it?
i think it was really great and informative, so i subbed. probably someone also said this in the comments, but i think you should remove some of the high frequencies from your microphone when talking over music, and simply mute your "facevideo" when showing examples. I hear quite a lot of hissing in general. otherwise good tutotiral
Thank you for these videos, they are really helpful. I would love to see your settings (EQ, effects) for recording different instruments (synths, pianos, drums) only with stock Logic plugins! Thanks! 🙏🏻
What’s the difference between this way and doing it with an aux cord connected to the focusite. Also if the song is a ballad do I have to change to count to 6/8 or 3/4?
Great video, Charles! I have a question which might be good to share: I'm recording electric guitar (with Audient interface). To play along with an existing track I activate Software Monitoring (little green speaker icon at the top). I notice that even when my GAIN is turned all of the way OFF on the Audient interface I still see plenty of 'movement' in the track meter and can audibly monitor what I am playing. When I dial up the gain I then see that it will make the meter go even higher if desired but then what I am hearing sounds a little different for some reason. My question is this: Should the track meter show movement if the interface gain is all of was the OFF? I would think that there would be no movement at all as there should not be any signal coming into the track. Can you comment on this?
Thanks, Charles. Some great tips. The vicious rumor mill says to record electric guitar dry and add effects during mix. I'm using a Focusrite 2i2, but I need the LPX distortion (preset). So, would I turn off compression, reverb, and eq in the channel strip? It does sound better with all the effects, but distortion is essential. Respect, fam.
Hey Al, ya I know what you mean. You could setup the channel strip and get the effects going then like you say turn them off and record but if you have a really strong computer then I would think is not a problem.
Useful channel for me as I’m going to record songs from Logic Pro ! Do u have a tutorial for vocal record in Logic Pro , if u have past the link down ! Thanks buddy 🤗👌🏾
how do you record another take when you're done with your first riff? like ill record my first riff and when I go to record my second riff it completely records over the first riff that's already there. if that makes sense. like there's no way to start recording after what's already there.
Hello!! so whenever I record a live instrument in logic pro just as you did with the guitar, for some reason whenever I try to play it back no sound comes out of my computer and I’m not able to listen to what I just recorded. Do you have any tips on How can i fix that issue? 😄
Hello. Im having a little trouble with my guitar recording. It sounds fine without logic. It sounds fine when I’m panning center. But when I pan to either sides in logic the signal starts to completely overdrive and sounds broken/clipping. Do you know what I’m doing wrong?
Hey Kim, I'm not completely sure how to diagnose this problem. Here's some things I would look at. See what kind of track you're on, whether it's a mono or stereo. Is the channel strip clean? Perhaps something is wonky with a plugin. Did you record in stereo? And now you're forcing it in mono? These are questions to take a look at.
Bruhhhh how do I record with my electric. I’m not looking for how to record guitar through a mic. Otherwise I would be watching all these other people’s videos. Geez. Hey Charles! What mic stand are you using for recording guitar and/or vocals?
Hey Shaunie, I’m primarily using anything that is cheapest at the local guitar store. I know the k and m brand is really good quality though.
