I own a 2014 Jetta TSI. I never thought that I would ever buy a Volkswagen, but I was impressed when I rented one when my Cadillac was totaled by a dump truck that ran a stop sign. The performance of the 1.8 TSI engine in my opinion is sweet. There is impressive torque response from this little engine, I don't care what anyone says. It's a little jewel, and I would buy another one.
2.0 TFSi GTi, The best engine (2.0 L) I've ever driven (imo), especially as the E30 GTi,with a Ko4 Turbo will pump out 300 bhp easily. VW,you boys kick arse.. thanks for your forward thinking,& excellent technology... the cooler the weather, the fiercer that turbo fires up.. loving my MK.V GTi E30 - 230....
i bought a brand new 2016 VW Passat 1.8 L , about 16000km and no problems at all with the engine. I change the oil according to recommended oil change and the car works great. The 6-speed auto is amazing, gives plenty of response, and nice fuel economy
MPI = MULTI POINT INJECTION No Turbo, No Supercharger (Compressor), Naturally Aspirated (Atmospheric Pressure), Fuel is injected into the intake manifold from multiple points. FSI = FUEL STRATIFIED INJECTION No Turbo, No Supercharger (Compressor), Naturally Aspirated (Atmospheric Pressure), Fuel is injected directly into the cylinder. TSI = TWINCHARGED STRATIFIED INJECTION 1 Turbo, 1 Supercharger (Compressor) Force Aspirated, Fuel is injected directly into the cylinder.
I have a friend who has a 1.4 tsi and 1200km consumes 1 liter of engine oil. And I know others who have had many problems with the magnetic clutch of the compressor and other problems.
These are good technologies. But they are new at all indeed. They are only applied in a different way of undestanding. I wish we coould see really outstanding new technologies that do not need the fossil fuels any more in large quantities and made by pioneering companies like VW group instead of recooking the old meals in a bit of different touches. The question pops out : Are they not doing it delibiretly ,in order not to try to change the world order builded on OIL? Real pioneers do not !
I had an fsi engine with 12.0 comp. ratio. because ratio was too high it needed higher octane fuel. and because we don't live in a utopia octane level is not always what they declare. so in 2 years engine get destroyed because of the preignition. long story short, we don't have the fuel technology for the engines with tsi tech...
Is the turbo computer control VGT/VNT/etc.? Why not put the injector at the top of the cylinder and use 2 spark plug like Honda I-DSI, but between valves??
I own a VW Golf 1.4 tsi. After only 5000km this engine starts shaking when running idle. I don't find this normal, do you, but VW finds that an engine that runs irregular is normal !!! And won't do anything about it, even in warranty period !!! You pay a lot of money for a shaky engine, and what about the long term damage. The joke (bill) is on you.
In some way you have right, in other you don't. That a car will become more fragile with more parts is not necessarly the case. It depends about engineering and quality of the components. Take the older Honda VTec engines, they run until today and are very complex in their construction. At the other side, THIS particular engine had heavy problems at his sart. The chain got blocked all the time and needed to be replaced all the time. VW claims they changed it to a belt, but they are already a numerous amount of faulty chaincars on the streets. The general lifespan of tsi engine is, although, in fact, shorter than conventional atmospheric engines. Something is although funny in your example, I'm asking myself how many moving parts a conventional V8 car has ? Must not be as much as an overengineered 4 cylinders ?!
Dear germanish, I am the inventor of the high injection and also about the dowsizzing, if have anydoubt check my video of the diesel motor 2 strokes by valves only,
The 1.4 TSI motors VW are failing miserably. I knew a lot of TSI motors with 20-30.000km has broken, My Scirocco TSI 122cv has broken with 2 years and 38.000km, with the max care driving, the great filming, refueling in the best petrol station in Spain 23.600€ for this? For I had a broken motor? If I know this before I had buying a HOnda or Ford or Bmw. I am INDIGNANT, I sent a letter to VW Spain in Barcelona and their answer it was poor and empty IT`s my opinion and my sad personal experience!
when u need an durable engine, which gets wayyy more then 200.000 km on its counter, go OPEL. you may think what a crap... but have you ever heard about an opel turbo engine which cracks up after 20 - 30.000 km ? sure not ! bcuz they last as hell. Opel isn't the crappy company like in the 80's and 90's anymore.
450L/100KM? Have you forgotten your meds?? that would give it a range of 10-20km. And city driving is less effective than highway driving. you got it the wrong way around.
I didn't saw something in this propaganda video. European health agencies are complaining about the fact that those Turbo engines didn't have the same process in the burning of the fuel as normal atmos, and so, are 25 time more polluting than normal cars ? Do you have made researched about that before bringing those kind of engines out on the market, or did you wait that a wave of cancer deaths will sue you ?
VW TSI create at foremost a joy for garages and repair shops - for they have a steady income fixing the inferior stuff that you've got in your car. Miniaturized motors with highest temperature and pressure is bound to break. Last but not least, on max speed on the Autobahn Turbos suck more fuel than natural aspirated engines and on lower speeds Hybrids do a much better job in fuel saving. If you want to waste your money on a vulnerable engine with dull and boring cars, go buy Volkswagen. If you want to get reliable engines and modern looking cars, go for Honda, Toyota, Mazda.
Mazda, Toyota, Honda. So much cars all made in Tcheck Republic and parts of England in the same factory as the other brands. Mondialisation all made car manufacturer the same, you need to find a brand that is always producing in his home-region with home-made parts. And those are nearly at the verge of instinction. Tesla, Dodge, Daihatsu, GMC, Subaru, Ferrari... and probably some of the chinese things, that we never saw out of China. Mitsubishi builds in Vietnam and in Check Republic - VW produces all around the world with cheap components bought at every street market - GM... killed saab and nearly killed Opel and Subaru with desastrous reliability politic - Suzuki produces in the GM factory in Check republic - So do Toyota, but, although, build some other shit in England - The same with Ford No, we consumer are pretty screwed. I wish myself that somebody does very serious reliability tests on 200'000km old cars. Its really a need in our society.
I can't agree with you on that guy's. We have several VW at the army, and some of my friends have. Even if the engine are not always at fault, they are problematic cars. And the VW service is nearly as bad as mitsubishi's one. During the "chain engine scandal" that lot of you have already forgotten, the german CEO claimed in Germany that they would change the defective chain for free in all cars, and in France, they didn't wanted to do so until they where at the verge of lawsuit. They cheated with the emission of their cars. But, due to that, lots of customers can't actually sell their car in my country. VW promised mesures for making that possible, but, a week ago, they cancelled all mesures because they didn't work. It's obvious that VW will not try to fix the problem. They are playing on time until the cars are trashed and replaced, so they will have a minimum to change ; in the hope that those good swiss will not sue them. Those peoples are clowns.
1.2 Turbocharger TSI : 19L/100km in city,26L/100km on highway 1.4 Turbocharger TSI : 25L/100km in city,32L/100km on highway 1.8 Turbocharger TSI : 38L/100km in city,44L/100km on highway 2.0 Turbocharger TSI : 42L/100km in city,65L/100km on highway
A crappy Engine i have so much Problems with The 1.4 TSI... Never buying a VW engine Car again. The timing Chain ist crap like hell. Spend 900€ to fixed The Problem.
great engine except that you might break pistons and restore your engine 3 times in 5 years ^_^ 1.4 TSI is the most stupid thing i've ever experienced in my whole life, thank you Volkswagen for your great effort, better you dont try to invent something new again.
debtah Before the whole TSI downsizing crap, VAG (VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda) had a wide spectrum of engines avaible. 1.4l for small cars, 1.6l for most, a sporty 1.8l Turbo engine, but also V6 engines that fit into a Golf! Since the TSI engines gained popularity, they are the 08/15 engine, used even in a Audi A4! They are all the same, only different in their displacement. Also, the 1st and 2nd Gen TSI engines were unreliable crap... If you want a VAG car with something else than a TSI, you will need to buy at least a Audi S4 for over 40.000€....
crappy VW stuff.... go asleep with that shit! look at 1996! A 1.4l engine with 114hp and VTEC-E could easily be driven with 5 liters! And look to 1990! B16A engine producing 160 horses with no fucking turbo. Even todays vw 1.6 turbo engines cannot do this without eatin' all rod bearings after 10k km xD

my 1.4 liter got 220 hp with just a remap. and it burns 5.3 l /100km when cruising at 100 km/h... that is engineering
MPI = MULTI POINT INJECTION

My 1.8tsi Golf is putting out 300ftlbs with only an air intake and software tuning…these motors are bulletproof
I have a friend who has a 1.4 tsi and 1200km consumes 1 liter of engine oil. And I know others who have had many problems with the magnetic clutch of the compressor and other problems.
A 3.0 v6 bi-turbo 30 valves with variable geometry turbos and 600hp with traction intregal :)
yeah high sales and resales after 1 years the 1.4 TSI consume like a 2.0
Nice video about Volkswagen TSI engine with 3D animation.
TSI = TURBO STRATIFIED INJECTION
1 Turbo, No Supercharger (Compressor) Force Aspirated, Fuel is injected directly into the cylinder.

@lordoftheriffs79 my 5.7 gets 310 horses, 500+nm torq and burns 8,0l/100km. when cruising @100km/h, thats amazing.
Das beste oder nichts !!! MERCEDES
Pls see the video of the diesel motor 2 strokes by valves only. the best motor conception of the world
Is the turbo computer control VGT/VNT/etc.? Why not put the injector at the top of the cylinder and use 2 spark plug like Honda I-DSI, but between valves??
What does twincharged mean? I’ve been looking everywhere and can’t find out
I own a VW Golf 1.4 tsi.

The joke (bill) is on you.
they should build 3.2 turbo cars .
this system in Portugal has given many problems
so why a 4 cylinder 2.0L tsi? why not a inline 5 2.5L tsi?
es una maquina excelente para un buen comienzo
where is the supercharger in the TSI ?
Merc was shit back in the days when it was with Chrysler. now they are up there with the best.
What kind of problems? Only in Portugal?
All those parts.. All those things that can break...
In some way you have right, in other you don't. That a car will become more fragile with more parts is not necessarly the case. It depends about engineering and quality of the components. Take the older Honda VTec engines, they run until today and are very complex in their construction.

what is the difference of TSI and FSI?
Can you upgrade the turbo on it?
they go all the way up to 2,0 litres not 1,6!!!
my dad's got the 1,8 version
Opels are a nightmare because they're owned by GM. Merc is shit because it's Daimler, along with Chrysler. VW group and BMW are very decent
good
Dear germanish, I am the inventor of the high injection and also about the dowsizzing, if have anydoubt check my video of the diesel motor 2 strokes by valves only,

de gates on dat turbo to slow
Now give us a bigger inch version oriented for power and driving the rear wheels.

6:06, how can one be an automotive enthusiast and an environmentalist at the same time?
The most effective means for reducing reliability is so-called downsizing by Volkswagen Group. 1.4TSI engines distribution s*cks big time.
V8 5.5 CGI biturbocharger AMG : 195L/100km in city,260L/100km on highway
