Majora's Mask differs from other Zelda games in that it really tells a story. If you take the time to talk to different npcs during the final 12 hours, you can see their fears, reactions, prayers. They are realistic, and at the end of the day, you can't help all of them. You can't solve everyone's problems in the final 3 day cycle. Majora's Mask told a story much richer than its other N64 counterpart, and that's why I love it.
When they announced this my head nearly exploded from excitement. Ive always loved Majoras Mask. Its one of my top 5 favorite Zelda games. It will be great to have it on my 3ds.
I'm excited for the 3DS remake, god Majora's Mask is such a fantastic game, easily my favorite Zelda game. It also is so good that it's manage to stand the test of time and remain as one of my five favorite games of all time for nearly fifteen years. (Very impressive for someone who has played probably several hundred games)
I'm so happy for a remake. This was the Zelda game I grew up with and can't wait. Stephen Please do a LP of this in the future!!
Majora's Mask was the first Zelda game I owned. My brother's friend introduced me to Zelda when he was playing Ocarina of Time, and also he was the one who got me into video games. So, when I got my own N64, I asked for Ocarina of Time. My mother got me Marjora's Mask instead, because she didn't know the difference. I still played it and eventually I did get Ocarina of Time, but Majora's Mask had actually became my favorite, and was really upset when my mother took my N64 from me after I had entered foster care and had to search for the GameCube special edition disc. I was so glad I held onto my GameCube, it just took a couple years before I found a GameStop that had a copy. Though, as a kid I could never get passed the Deku Palace, I still enjoyed roaming around the game, doing side quests, and once I got the one on GameCube, I was a lot older and more experienced in gaming, I was finally able to beat Majora's Mask. Now, I am really looking forward to having it on 3DS, too!!
When Majoras Mask 3D got announced, that was the first time I actually screamed with excitement.
Majoras Mask is one of my favorite zelda games aside from twilight princess and i am so excited for the 3D remake
Majora's Mask is like 90% side quest so as some one who enjoys exploration you will probably enjoy it more than other Zelda titles
After the rich experience I saw from NCS years ago I can finally play this myself to 100% completion after forgetting a lot of the game. I just think it was such an inspiring and unique game for the time with so many rich sidequests and areas. I am so excited.
Not gonna lie, I screamed like a little girl when I saw the announcement while watching the direct. It was a good thing no one else was home.
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask was the very first Zelda game I ever played when I was about 5-6 years old. It was also the only Zelda game I owned until my 9th birthday, in which I got Ocarina of Time as a gift. So, playing Majora's Mask for roughly 3-4 years I grew to insanely love that game. When I heard about the remake a month ago, I went crazy! I had a hunch Nintendo would do a remake of it, but I wasn't sure what platform it was going to be on, 3DS or Wii U. Nonetheless, I'm stoked for the remake and wish Spring can hurry up so I can get my copy of Majora's Mask 3D!
Majoras mask scared the crap out of me when I was little by just watching my brother play it but now I am super excited for majoras mask 3d
Im pretty happy for the remake as it gives me a chance to play the game without buying a whole new console for it and it does seem like the type of game Id enjoy!
Super excited about the remake. I haven't beaten Majora's Mask, but loved the remake of Ocarina of Time. After the announcement, I started replaying Majora's Mask and am now further than I've ever been! (Ikana Canyon) And I look forward to compare the old and new version when it comes out!
When I watched the Nintendo Direct, I immediately knew what it was as soon as the music started. I know the game THAT well.

The only 3D Zelda games I haven't played yet are Majora's Mask and Skyward Sword, so I was really excited to hear about this. I know I could just get this game on the Wii VC, but I'll probably still do that since I know I would probably want to do a let's play of it. But I think I will go for the 3D Remake first.
Oh my god. They are both seriously just so amazing you need to play them right now.

I love ocarina of time, it is very near and dear to my heart. It was my very first game and I loved it, but Majora's Mask, man do I love that game. As a child, I liked the game, but it was pretty hard so I never beat it. Well, years later, when I was about 12 or so, I decided to play through it. I am so glad that I did. I understood the dark undertones, loved the atmosphere, and the dungeons and music were phenomenal. It is a fantastic game, and very unique. I can proudly say, at 17, it is my favorite game of all time. And I got to give props to Nintendo, when Ocarina of Time came out it was, by many, considered the best game ever made. But Nintendo didn't let the success of that go to their head and make a cheap knock off of Ocarina of Time. Instead, they took the series in a completely different direction, and I really appreciate that. Oh, just going to warn anyone who hasn't played the game. It is a very difficult zelda game, in my opinion. The last 2 dungeons of the game are confusing as hell. The game is not a cake walk. Good luck.
I'm a bit freaked out by underwater stages as well, but only when there's a lack of draw distance. In Super Mario 64, I was terrified of the eel. It would just pop up after you went so far underwater.
It's pretty cool, because Majora's Mask 3D will come out on it's 15th year. I don't think it's an actual day anniversary, but it's the 15th year since it's release!
I love both the N64 original and 3DS version. Granted they both have a rather different vibe.

I love playing Majora's Mask, even if I never got very far into it. I did however love to get as many masks as I could possibly get before even going to the first temple, which may have been just me delaying progress but nevertheless I had fun. Also to be honest, game scared the daylights out of me most of the time.
When I first played Majora's Mask on the Gamecube promo disk thing, I was so lost on what to do directly after you get the Ocarina of Time because I didn't read the line of text that told you to play the Song of Time, and I game up, but now with the 3DS version (and Emile's Let's Play) I think I will pick it up and beat it, all I have to worry about is the timing on certain quest, because I hate being on the clock in games.
don't worry the water dungeon is actually good due to certain mechanics (trying not to spoil it for the few people that haven't played/seen it)

I didn't grow up owning an N64 but I remember one of my cousins had one. They had MM so when my sister were young we saw IT and thought oh it's another Zelda game like OoT we tried playing it but we're too freaked out and overwhelming by it. And to this day I've yet to get a chance to play it even though I own it on virtual console.

Stephen they were actually making MM for 3ds right after OOT so the fans didn't really change anything, but I am still very excited like everyone else. I never had a 64 when I was younger but I got to watch and sometimes play other peoples and I got to try MM. I never finished it or get very far either so I am glad its coming to the 3ds. I actually have it right now for my 64 but I wanted to wait for the 3ds port since I knew one was coming eventually haha

I'm not too familiar with the fine details of the game, like the boss battles (except for Mojaro), but I do remember the traveling to stop the moon. Weirdly Mojaro's mask was the only Zelda that I've fully completed, had an extremely hard time with Ocarina of Time (N64 version). I'm currently working on Twilight princess, which is a close second to mojaro's mask as far as my favorite Zelda titles.
so i was like what 5 or 6 when my two brothers got the game and as a child i loved ocarina of time. and when i saw another zelda game for the nintendo 64 that my brothers got i was so amazed. They opened it up and there was the golden cart with the hologram on it. I was so amazed that I took the instruction booklet from them and i would just look at the pictures inside of it. i ended up losing the booklet and brothers didnt know how to stop the moon from falling so they got mad at me that i lost the booklet because they thought it would explain how to stop the moon from falling. Then the game was put away and they didnt touch it again. like 6 years later me and my best friend would play through majoras mask on the gamecube collectors edition disk. It was October and we ended up beating the game on Halloween. That when i found out how much i loved the game and ever since then ive loved it.
Although majora's mask is a incredibly good game I still love skyward sword as my number 2 it had probably the best story of any Zelda and the soundtrack and art style was perfect
Yeah, Skyward Sword is pretty good. I just hated everything you were forced to do between each dungeon, like the part when you are swimming for the musical notes. It felt like something out of Mario. I loved the dungeons and boss fights, but everything else seemed tedious in my opinion.

I loved it because of its focus on side quests, which I adore in games! If I am honest, I'm not a massive fan of the dungeons in zelda games, I much prefer exploring the over world.
I'm really, really excited for majora's mask 3D, but not because I'm a big fan. I'm excited because this will make the game a lot more comfortable for me. it was the same with OoT 3D. I played the gamecube version first, and I just couldn't get into it, but once I played it on the 3DS, it felt overall, a lot more comfortable (at this point in time, I have no idea what I mean by comfortable), so I'm hoping that MM 3D will do the same, seeing as my experience with it is playing it for about an hour on an emulator.
I loved n64 because as a kid growing up with nintendo. I had a regular NES but for some reason i never owned a SNES so im unfamilliar with lots of SNES titles. So from the time i was about 3 (in 1991) up untill the n64 came out (give or take a year or two) i had my sega genisis in between and a ps1 later on but as far as nintendo went i only had the NES and then the N64 the first game i had for the n64 was OOT and i loved it. Didnt get to finish it for a year. Then i played Majoras mask for a while but i got lucky and bought a used game that had an already completed game on it. So i did all of the bosses and i played the end game but i never ended up starting my own file due to being a kid and i didnt like time based games either it was too much pressure. Perhaps this is a reason to buy a 3ds. If smash brothers and ORAS wasnt already reason enough lol
As someone relatively new to gaming (my first consol was a Wii, and a black one at that), I'm looking forward to this as I had never had the chance to play it until now. I would use the VC, but online purchases are a pain in the ass and I'm generally not allowed to participate in them.
I have Majora'a Mask for the Wii virtual console and I really enjoyed it. I made one really stupid mistake and reset time when I shouldn't have. I really loves the tone of the game. Some stuff near the end gave me chills and also made me think. I don't know if I'm going to get this version though.
I could never get past the water dungeon in MM. My cousin on the other hand did, but couldn't make it past the dungeon right after, so he had me do it and I ended up beating the game lol. I even got to experience Fierce Deity Link (which I horribly pronounced as Dighty as a kid).
I really want Majora's Mask for the 3DS when it does come out. I've never played it, but i've seen walkthroughs of it. And I want it. I also want to get Ocarina of Time for the 3DS. I hope I get the latter for Christmas.
God all the cringe been drowned. Creepy pastas made me a huge fan of this game, and when the 3DS version was announced, I instantly knew that whatever money my mom was gonna give me for her usual tax refund was immediately going into majora‘s mask. That was the first time I ever budgeted for stuff like that. We actually took the time to save up and wait
I have my gripes with majora mass 3-D, but it was still worth it in the end. It was majora‘s mask on a modern freaking consul and portable to boot.

Majora's Mask had managed to confuse me on what to do when I was younger playing it. I was maybe 8 at the time I got to play it. It took me quite awhile to beat it as well because I couldn't manage to get a hold of my own copy. I had rented it at the time originally, but now I have my own cartridge. Years later I had come to learn about the scary themes of the game and how the theme and the moon terrified people when they were younger. I personally wasn't really scared of this for some reason, rather that I enjoyed the whole 3 day cycle. Which is something I was curious to know Stephen, besides the 3 day cycle, did the game frighten you as a kid?
Down to just 2 weeks behind, now
I didn't grow up with an N64, (I didn't get into gaming until my parents let me once I was 10 or 11) but I did have the big compilation disc for OoT Majora's Mask Zelda I and II, and the demo for windwaker. Although honestly, Majora's mask didn't really get me. I had the same issue you did where the time limit just stressed me out and was a major turn-off to the game. Now that I'm older, I can appreciate the game through Let's Plays and other mediums for what it is, but I still would hate playing it today because of the 3 day limit constantly going. Although to be fair, I wasn't that huge a game of Ocarina of Time either, as it was a lot more confusing to me than games of these later days. So maybe it's just the curse of growing up as a later gamer.

I personally really like the story and darkness of Majora's Mask, but the flawed save method is what keeps me from playing it, so hopefully they fixed it in the remake.

Honestly my first time playing LOZ Majora's Mask...I ended up hating it after I found out it had a time limit of three days and all that and even had a harder time trying to figure out what I needed to do XD. Funny thing is I enjoy the game now but I still would not call it my favorite XD. To be honest though I am thinking about buying the game when it comes out for the 3DS and I also want to pick up Ocarina of Time 3DS as well :D

I've never had the chance to play on the N64, SNES etc. because my parents didn't know what or how the system worked. But I'm glad youtube is here :) gotte get to watching OoT. Also, isn't MM sorta 3d in the original?

I find it funny because some of the changes to MM3D weren't well received.
Majora's Mask, a great game, an interesting twist, a failure. Yeah, I like Majora's Mask, but I have my issues with it. The 3 day time limit isn't one of them. It's annoying when you're really close to the end of a dungeon, but what really bugged me is the perpetual state of incompleteness that you feel from the sidequests. The game is largely sidequests but you never feel rewarded for them past the 3 day cycle because afterwards it's like they never happened. It would be nice for the flow of the game if they at least allowed quests that don't impede the events of the Anju/Kafei sidequest to continue onwards as if Link did them. I understand the challenge of removing consumables and with the existence of the bank, you shouldn't ever be too strapped for cash. This is really bad because all of the characters are so lovable and vibrant.
To be honest, you don't REALLY need to play OOT before you play MM as long as you know the story in OOT; which you already do. Just a suggestion! Also, im defnitely NOT saying "dont play OOT first" but if you have time, go for both!

You can slow time down by half so it's not a big deal, you can still explore and do everything you'd want to do in a Zelda game.

I said this in your First 20 but I also did not like MM for the same reasons you didn't. I have bad anxiety when it comes to being timed (which is probably linked to my disability) and I just cannot enjoy playing MM even though time is not an issue for the most part. I plan to pick up MM3D and I really hope they make it more user friendly (such as fixing the save system).
I understand what you are saying, but there was nothing wrong with the save system, that's the way it was supposed to be
rrmovies1 There was nothing wrong with it yes but it was unnecessarily confusing in my opinion. I hope in the remake they will let you save at owl statues and have it be a permanent save or you should just be able to save anywhere through a function in the menu.
NintendoBlurb I have the exact same view on these things, though Super Mario games have never been problematic for me, so perhaps I won't have that problem.

Mario games and for the most part those don't have timers so I'm not bothered by it. When I do play traditional Mario games it doesn't really bother me that much because it really isn't noticeable. I only start to get panic when I hear the buzzer go off to tell me that I am running out of time. I think sound and visuals play a large part in my anxiety towards time in video games. Like in MM you are constantly reminded that you have limited time by dialogue, the clock on screen and the transitions from days which is why it is so nerve racking for me.
