It may be a case of me seeing what I want to see, but my experience with the movie was nothing like I expected it to be. I actually really enjoyed it. This is the symbolism as I saw it. That is why Wakanda has this mix of older and current Africa and a futuristic possibility powered by Vibranium. Vibranium = the human soul as children of God. Wakanda was endowed from the heavens with this otherworldly element that is the strongest metal known to man, capable of driving seemingly unending technological advancement, and able to be used for great good or great destruction depending on the sovereign will ruling over Wakanda. In the movie there are three kings, three sovereigns who’s rule over Wakanda are compared. Each king represents one of three ways that people can choose to approach the injustices of the past. These injustices of life may have happened to the individual themselves or to their group’s predecessors. One sovereign (T’chaka) chose to isolate himself from the rest of the world, keeping for himself and for the people of his in group all of the good that his vibranium (soul) was capable of producing. His objective was to obtain power and to use that power for the destruction of the offenders and any who bare a resemblance to them; no quarter, only death and the rise of him and his people to rule the world. No evil deed is not worth doing if it leads to that end. He lives his whole life to kill the good king of Wakanda and use the vibranium to exercise his revenge. He is an engaging villain because he is YOU or me or anyone. We are all tempted to hate those that we feel have committed some injustice or atrocity upon us. It’s easy to heap up all the ruin in our own life and blame it on the perpetrators of the past and we could very easily find ourselves with kill scars all over our bodies in the name of doing good. The good king (T’chala) finds it in himself to let go of the hate for the enemies of his past, to overcome the fear of more harm to himself and his group, and is able to reach out to the rest of the world in compassion and wisdom to meet his obligations to them as a member of the only race that matters, the human race. The light of truth growing up in his heart (the glowing heart shaped plant) gives him super human strength that enhances his use of the vibranium to vanquish his enemies, make friends of former foes, and to rule in prudence and righteousness over his kingdom. There were two white guys in the film. One that wants to use the vibranium to enrich himself and one that takes a bullet for the good king and fights with him. Didn't Lord of the Rings The Return of the King win Best Picture in 2003? Excellent film, that, AND a huge box office draw. The Best Years of Our Lives was also a FANTASTIC film. Also, Ben is related to Mara Wilson? That's awesome! I grew up watching her films!
I was waiting for one of them to bring of the last LOTR film when they were asking when was the last BP winner that was also a good, crowd pleasing film. Then they skipped it and went to Gladiator. I know they like Game of Thrones, and Knowles and Klavan are big on Christian philosophy so I’m sure they’re fans of guys like Tolkien and Lewis, so it’d be hard to imagine they aren’t LOTR fans. Maybe they just forgot it won best picture.
@@YankeeBlues21I don't remember when Gladiator came out. It might have come out after RotK. I still don't understand why the first two LOTR films didn't win Best Picture. (If Gladiator came out in 2001, that would explain it, but I think it came out in 2000).
Jake Starbuck Gladiator was 2000, that was the Oscars before the LOTR trilogy began. Iirc, A Beautiful Mind & Chicago were the ones that got BP in 01 and 02 over the first 2 LOTR films. I agree, all 3 should have swept the awards each year. Hell, I think the first is the best of the trilogy (though it’s really all 1 fantastic story)
Very pertinent point made at around 1:19, that it is CRAFT not ART. So true. I trained in theatre as a writer/dramaturg, and it's mostly hard graft and technique and skill and experience, and slog. Never feels like great artistic activity, ever!
Even though Bohemian Rhapsody had it's issues, it was essentially written like the hero's journey. If you map it out, it hits all the points. I think that is why it won the DW poll. It isn't easy to find a movie today, that is so archetypal.

Matt lives in Maryland i do believe so that would be a long trip for just a couple hours. Even though I would like to see him make to one of these discussions. I think it would be great.
@@redwindstorm oh. that would explain it :)
Is that a smoking jacket, Knowles? Classy shit.
And I totally agree with Ben Shapiro about the editing on Bohemian Rhapsody. GAWD! it was soooo bad!
I love love love Death of Stalin!! When it didn't get nominated, I said to myself I will not care at all about The Oscars anymore. But of course this year I tuned in again just to see if The Favourite will win. I'm glad Olivia Colman won because she's fantastic, but The Favourite didn't win cuz it's showing how women can be such crazies.
Jake Starbuck
Gladiator was 2000, that was the Oscars before the LOTR trilogy began. Iirc, A Beautiful Mind & Chicago were the ones that got BP in 01 and 02 over the first 2 LOTR films.
I agree, all 3 should have swept the awards each year. Hell, I think the first is the best of the trilogy (though it’s really all 1 fantastic story)
I see a group of Dorks smoking cigars. But I love these Dorks. :D Thanks for the laughs.
So much wisdom in this room.🙏
thanks guys this was awesome
Last best picture winner I've seen was No Country for Old Men. Last one I enjoyed was Return of the King.
Ben Shapiro, Candace Owens 2024
@HerbSuperb44 owens is an idiot
a major idiot... she shouldn't even be one of the faces for black conservatives smh@@SuCKeRPunCH187
Owens is trash
Can Owens take on AOC??
Nikki Haley and Larry Elder please!!!!
Avengers 1 reference at the end was awesome!
So awesome that you guys actually play video games and care about pop culture. Conservatives should embrace this!
Ben just watching the Sorpanos now. Ma'don!
Best Musical - GIGI - PERFECTION!!!❤💋
Very pertinent point made at around 1:19, that it is CRAFT not ART. So true. I trained in theatre as a writer/dramaturg, and it's mostly hard graft and technique and skill and experience, and slog. Never feels like great artistic activity, ever!
I feel bad for Ben. (All the cigars)
Even though Bohemian Rhapsody had it's issues, it was essentially written like the hero's journey. If you map it out, it hits all the points. I think that is why it won the DW poll. It isn't easy to find a movie today, that is so archetypal.
1:35:29 this man was supposed to put the ash in the LWC mug XD
I follow two types of channels for the most part on RUclips gaming news channels and politically conservative channels, I would have never imagined I was going to here a gaming opinion here before a political opinion on my gaming channels
It's so surprising to see these old guys talk about video games like that... It really show how much a cultural impact they actually have made over the years... And I agree with Andrew, Diablo III is a fantastically addictive game!
I swear you guys smoke cigars like Elizabeth Warren drinks beer.
