The defense attorney is very creepy. I would not liked to have been on the jury with the way he was looking at them after the verdict was read. Are there no hygiene standards in jail? And finally, what was going on with the clerk?
I don't know what was going on with the clerk. But the defense attorney is Ken Morrison. He's a member of the Orange County Public Defender's office. He's well respected in Orange County, both among prosecutors and those on the defense side.
I understand the impulse to denigrate him. If you're not in the legal profession, you see the defendant and his lawyers in the same light...
The reality, however, is that the defense lawyer's role isn't to justify or rationalize a defendant's conduct. It's to ensure the defendant's constitutional and legal rights are upheld.
Personally, as someone who is in the legal profession, I have a lot of respect for Morrison. I respect his willingness to step up and fight for defendant's constitutional rights when nobody else will.

@@lukedaniell great, he's well respected. That doesn't change the fact that he was staring down the jurors. He looked unhinged. This is not about him doing his duty, it's about the way he was acting towards the jurors, who were also doing their duty. If I were on the jury, I would not have been pleased by his behavior. Period.
