This brings back so many memories! This is right when I became a Mets fan, right around '96-'97. As a kid, I got to see Rey-O, Ventura, Piazza, Olerud, & Edgar Alfonzo playing the infield! I miss these days so much! You just don't see players like that anymore. METS fan for LIFE!!!!

Best thing about Ordonez was like clockwork he hit a home run every September, happened 4 straight years, his only HRs of the season & it was always in September.

Oh my God, I've been looking for this video for years. I remember going to that game when the Mets were giving out this tape (against the Reds, I think) and watched it so many time the damn ribbon wore out and broke. Thank you so much for posting, you've made my day. Now when I tell people who never heard of Ordonez how good he was they don't have to take my word for it, I can show them.

Lots of respect for Jeter, but if the question was ever brought up of who was the best defensive shortstop in New York in the past 20 years, the answer is clear.

I have looked for this video for years, thank you. I saw Ordonez play in Havana Cuba when he was young, I was a kid, he was bench the regular short stop was German Mesa. Mesa is considered the best defensive SS ever, even Ozzie Smith and Ordonez said he was. But when Ordonez came to America and played for the Mets, believe me I haven;t seen nobody playing like him. REY-O.

I love in the first clip with the Cardinals' player getting thrown out at home. You could just see him going "...How?"

The fact he wasn't selected as one of the 50 greatest Mets was horseshit! Had he been able to hit .20 to .30 points better to give his career more longevity he would have easily been known as top 3, 4, 5 best defensive shortstops of all time!

+Jaystar YourMothersEX It's too bad. I still wear his jersey proudly. So much fun to watch as a kid growing up in the 90's

as great as a defensive player as he was, i wish he would have worked harder at his hitting...he would have been around alot longer. Especially in New York. i had fun watching him for sure

Best infielder I have ever seen. This guy was the John Wayne of SS. The era of Viquel, Ordonez, Garciaparra was awesome. Jeter can suck it!

i used to be In my back yard for HOURS. Bouncing tennis balls at odd angles, and trying to make Rey Ordonez plays on them. then forcing my friends to hit grounders at me just as long. i got good....not like that though!

No one has ever had less errors in the field then Ray.....that is the point of why he is the best fielder ever to live...end of story...not the greatest hitter but the fielder yes..

on defense, fully the equal of ozzie smith and omar vazquel -- if he only didn't swing for the fences, hit .250 and drew a bunch of walks, for a decent on-base percentage, he would be in the hall of fame
