Right back at you good sir. Your identification of layered levels of meta inside meta was a thing to behold. Can't wait to do it again! Now, piss off ghost!
Yea, I do love everything about Ragnarok. But my favorite is him truly fighting worthy of being the Odinson. Marvel, firstly in the comics then in the MCU, seem that Thor should be some type of punching bag. If you look at the bio, see his abilities, there are very few that should be able to beat him one on one. Yet he kicks ass while in Muspelheim and while fighting Hulk. Nicely done!
It’s crazy that Hemsworth and Hiddleston were cast originally to play serious versions of Thor and Loki, but they still fit just as well when put in a comedic version of the same characters.
This is Hemsworth's wheelhouse. It's like he's barely acting in this movie. The director was like "just go be yourself, but also remember that you're Thor".

I LOVE Mark Ruffalo. Since Age of Ultron, he's made a lot of small changes to his character like quietly emoting to himself and physical comedy. Watch him through Ragnarok and Infinity War, especially during the invasion scene. He really made Banner/Hulk his own.
@@TheWhitetiger011 It sucks that they dumbed Hulk down to just being comic relief though. I will still forever love Norton’s hulk more because of how angry he seemed. Ruffalo’s hulk has just never seemed actually angry
@@yooooo8600 i think they do that because if banner was constantly angry (or trying to hold himself back), the tone of the whatever movie he's in would become a lot darker (which doesn't fit in with the typical tone marvel movies go for).
@@jo-kj3nv No? They could've kept the same storyline where Banner has learned to control it, but when he does transform, that's when he becomes really fucking angry. All I was saying is that Norton's hulk seemed angry (like Hulk should), and Banner's hulk just seems like a giant monkey
Another is just anytime we see Miek in his suit. He is always just so interested in his knife hands. he constantly shows them off no matter if anybody looking at him.
"My wife was disappointed when she found out this was a comedy movie." "My wife couldn't stop confirming for me that 'Dougs Dead'" That right there is character development.
Side note on Korg: His revolution failed because he didn't print enough pamphlets. - Paper beats Rock. At the end he steps on Miek, thinking he killed him. Miek uses 2 swords. - Rock beats Scissors
Another thing I love about Hela is how when the Asgardians refuse to submit to her, she says "I thought you would be happy to see me," as if she's genuinely hurt by Odin completely removing her from Asgard's history and didn't wanna have to murder everyone on the way to the throne.
Hela does not hate her people, In the past she was probably seen as one of there greatest heroes. If the people of Asgard accepted Hela I think they would of lived perfectly fine lives In the end it is once again all Odins fault Odin failed with Hela and it also really makes his treatment of Loki even worse Its like he never learned anything from Hela. To me its seems like Hela only knew war, Odin molded her into a weapon but nothing else so when Odin stopped at 9 realms , Everything Hela ever knew was just suddenly ripped out under her feet. So Odin banished her. If only Odin shaped her to be something other than A weapon I do hope Hela returns, I think she is one of the best villains in MCU I even think she could beat Thanos (With no Infinity stones tho)
God I hate that name. She’s inspired by Loki’s only daughter, Hel, who isn’t even that bad. She guards, well, hell. Which is named Hel. Fenrir is her brother, who is VERY CHILL. HIS LITERAL ONLY CRIME WAS EXISTING HE IS A PUP. Also Loki is Thor’s uncle. Long story.
@@couldawa7114 no they’re blood brothers, that’s a reason why Loki can continue to fuck shit up and Odin can do nothing, because he can’t not invite Loki to parties.
I liked how when Thor introduces himself to Valkyrie, he says “I’m Thor Odinson” - without mentioning he’s a prince or anything - and she calls him”your majesty”. A cool hint that she’s Asgardian way before we’re told it explicitly.
That is because how the naming works in Norse mythology, his name is Thor, he's Odin son. That already says the relationship in the society and pretty much told her actually who he is ... Her old bosses son.
@@DavidMartinez-di3rj I am not saying it isn't a good hint. I was explaining the "without mentioning he’s a prince or anything - and she calls him”your majesty” ". She doesn't need the call for a prince or majesty or whatever, the name alone identifies who and what he is in the norse hierarchy. It seems you were not getting my comment ?
@@jwhite-1471 You got exactly what I explaining about. BECAUSE SHE IS ASGARDIAN she knows how the naming convention works. I never said his hint/conclusion is bad.
My favourite thing about this film is when Taika Waititi's toddler interrupts him while he's recording the commentary and Taika asks "do you wanna watch daddy's film?"and she loudly replies "Nah, I wanna watch Moana"
I absolutely love that Thor remembered Tony’s nickname for him even though they haven’t seen eachother since the Ultron disaster and his exasperation at having to use that nickname to access the ship.
"Yeah, I'm just a guy made of rocks, no need to worry unless you're made of scissors ... Yeah I tried to start a revolution but didn't make enough pamphlets." Did no one else notice that the guy made of rocks was beaten by paper?
One of the things I love about Thor: Ragnarok is that they had a chance to put a 'complex', romantic subplot, but they didn't. So many times I see in these type of movies is: Action hero meets badass girl, they don't like each other, they soon like each other, they kiss in the fight and then magicly fall in love! I love how they avoided all that and just gave Thor a new badass friend.
seeing it in theatres i literally thought she was with the girl who sacrificed herself while fighting hella... But then they confirmed shes bi so she coulda been into thor and im so glad she wasnt! but the gay thing needs more attention
Loved the "snake" story Thor was telling about Loki. If I recall correctly, that whole monologue was something Hemsworth made up on the spot and they kept it.
It's from mythology but he plays it very much in "his" voice that it could have easily just been something he pulled from research and not necessarily from the script
tbh the accents in general Chris is obviously Aussie but I’m pre sure Kate might be as well? Or English. But taika went above and beyond with korgs accent and then grandmasters companion is a kiwi
@@ethangeorge277 yeah, almost ironically the two siblings who look and ARE the most alike, Loki and Hela (though they're not actually siblings in the comics), are both English, while Thor is an Aussie 👌 and none of them really hide their accents
I find it funny that when Thor says “Father” to Loki, Loki says “oh shit” just like in the previous films when Loki says “oh shit” when Thor says “loki”
Or him learning who the "Champion" was and smiling with delight to learn his identity only to be "I have to get off this planet!" when you know who comes crashing through...I just love the brothers having opposing anticipations and then immediately flipping it like a pancake.
Taika has this gift with films he directs. He is able to create films with the funniest moments in cinema but also have the most emotional moments as well. Like in Jojo Rabbit, the film is full of hilarious jokes but it's perfectly balanced out with beautifully written and heart breaking scenes. It never feels out of place either! It's like magic.
Not only can Taika create some of the funniest scenes and some of the most emotional ones, he can throw comedy into emotional scenes without it feeling out of place. Thor knocking himself out mid-speech before escaping in Ragnarok or the ending to Jojo Rabbit are good examples; they have comedy, but also have some powerful emotions thrown in there too.
I love how even though Thor is written completely different in this movie, it still feels like Thor because he's always been a bit of a himbo and a fish out of water. When you play those things up, mix in his new building trauma, and him hanging out with more earthlings, it feels like a natural place for his character to go.
8:19 Fun Fact: Korg is not the first character to get “Always a win” status. The first character to obtain this status was J.Jonah Jameson from “Everything Great About Spider-Man 2”
@@Joe-xo4yg while I totally acknowledge that this was likely a plot contrivance, it can be explained in-universe. Loki's scene with Thor in the gladiator prison suggests that he'd never seen Hulk in person. Plus, it's possible that he had dismissed descriptions of Hulk as another monstrous green alien, since Loki is on a faraway planet with a myriad of alien species, and Hulk is from a planet that doesn't even have space-faring technology, so what were the chances?
The only complaint I had was that you missed alot of moments between Loki and Thor. Dare I say, overlooked them. Their brotherly chemistry is by far the best thing about Ragnarok and actually Thor as well and not to forget, the last member of his family. What exists between Thor and Loki is pivotal to Thor's story and they wrapped it up with a bow the best they could in this movie.
I loved how in the line "Valhalla I'm coming for you" in Immigrant Song played right as Valkyrie came striding down the Bifrost with fireworks going off behind her. What a perfect way to frame that bit.
OK, but a scene at the end, when Thor is talking with Loki sure that it's only a projection of his brother and throwing something at him and then Loki caches it. It was so powerful for me, I was really glad when this happened. It definitely deserves a WIN.
I swear, Korg had me dying laughing when I first this. Not only me, but everyone in the theater was cracking up at everything he said. I enjoyed the hell out of this. I don't know about anyone else. Shout out to the kid from the Make A Wish foundation who gave Chris the line to say, "he's my friend from work". And the director actually keeping it in the movie too.
Korg is literally a "Scissors, Paper, Rock" joke personified! He beats Meek in a fight (Rock beats scissors), while his revolution fails because he didn't give enough pamphlets to people (Paper beats Rock)!!!
15:43 [warning: spoilers] i also like the toxic family dynamic that this scene supports: in the first thor film, when loki is holding onto thor for his life, all he asks for from odin is some form of recognision ("i could've done it father!") yet odin, knowing this is all loki ever wanted, knowing loki had already been defeated so thoughrougly, STILL refused to give him that ("no, loki.") which is ultimatly what led loki to letting go and falling into his death voluntarily (which turned out not to be his death, but oh well) i feel like everything thor, odin, or loki (or even hela) did in this film was representative of where they were mentally and how everything that had happened had affected them, which is just brilliant writing, because everything feels like it makes sense. personalities match up with actions (thor saves asgardians because he's naturally heroic, hela takes control of asgard because it's what she was taught to do, loki betrays thor, and thor knows to expect this because loki is.....loki) pasts match up with mindsets (thor feels responsibility for asgard because he was raised to be a king, while loki has fully embraced his villany because he's always been treated like a villain, thor is obviously emotionally disturbed by odin's death, loki would do anything, *yes, anything* , to gain power on sakaar, etc) it all feels like a completely different movie, obviously, but the characters are still the same characters, because they'll always be those characters; thor will always be in a heroic role, because he is heroic, and he'll always be the same amount of stupid mixed with kind. loki might never be fully heroic, and that's okay, because that's his character: bitter, traumatized, insecure and a bit scared, but also smug, mischievious and scheming. sorry, went on a rant there, but the point is: i just really like the writing-
This is so well thought out and I very much agree. You also see some things that point out that not everything is better. The way Loki reacts to Odin calling him his son again, being the first one to come to my mind. He looks conflicted, hurt, but also like he wants to accept that statement even though he still feels like Odin is saying it too diminish his own guilt over who his children have become. Like acknowledging him this way will magically make any one of his children into who he wanted them to be. Even though he had so much time to actually deal with the problems that plague both sons yet never once acted as a father to either of them. Sorry for my ramblings. You made a very good point.
Absolutely this. And I find it more tear-jerking when the lines ("do you think so little of me?" "Loki, I thought the world of you") were said. Repairing said toxic family habits slowly yet surely.
Surprised you didn't win Loki's call back to when he was ragdolled in Avengers. "Yeah! That's what it feels like!" Also surprised you did not win him doing Rayden the other god of thunder's attack while on the bifrost.
My favorite thing about this channel (among many, MANY favorite things) is that it always makes me want to rewatch these movies. I am sitting at my laptop like "Yeah. YEAH. That movie IS great"
And Hela treats Fenris like a pet rather than her brother, which is kind of rude- but seeing as this is a Thor movie, it's probably one of the most normal familial relationships there.
16:13 surprised there wasn't a win for the timing of Immigrant Song, so that Valkyrie entered the battle on the line "Valhalla I am coming." You know, because in mythology, the job of the Valkyries was to take the souls of warriors to Valhalla.
Soooooooo happy someone else notice this. My friends were wondering why that hyped me so much. "Are you kidding, they nod to the mythology Norse religion so much that it's so awesome!!! Like Odin riding Loki's horse child with extra legs in the beginning of a Thor 1 during the war between the Frost Giants.
This movie is by far one of the best in the MCU. Taika Waititi did a phenomenal job in blending what is a definitive movie in the MCU with typical Kiwi Humour. If someone ever wants to know what Kiwi Humour is like, this movie is a great demonstration of it. 'Small reactions to big things'. All of Asgard suddenly explodes and instead of sadness or panic, all you get is "Oh, well now those foundations are gone." Fantastic.
@@harlequeenchannel "Kiwi" is a colloquial term for "New Zealander", so "Kiwi humour" is the equivalent of saying "American humor" or "British humour". In New Zealand, sarcasm, over-exaggerating, and understating things, as well as making fun of things that are "cool" are more common than in a lot of other places
Ahh one of my favorite scenes in the movie is when Loki gets so nervous around the hulk and celebrates when Thor finally gets a beating like he did. I just love Loki and when he was all “surprise” I couldn’t stop smiling. Also Chris hemsworth’s little dopey smile when he’s saying the suns going down just makes me feel so giddy. Gggghghg also Bruce had a whole bunch of great moments and I loved him in this
I'm aware this video is very old now but I've been going through the older videos on this channel because I just love what you do here, so pardon the belated comment. With that said, I have always interpreted the little smirk on Loki's face (when Thor awakens his true power) as him thinking "You pissed off my big brother, trust me, that's not going to end well for you guys..."
I feel like I'm the only person that appreciates everything Marvel tries. 'm loving the MCU's darker stuff, the MCU's new, funny stuff, what I love about Marvel is that it can do ANYTHING and everyone can enjoy it. This film was stellar for me. So much fun, loved every minute.
+Wolfgang Busenitz dark themes through iron man 3 with the ptsd and panic attacks. Bruce when he wanted to kill himself, rocket racoon is depressed as fuck because of his neglect, captain america Ingeneral can get pretty heavy and bucky and the mind control wasn't exactly a barrel of laughs , there's lots of themes that definitely aren't for kids. but I like the mcu because dc just flatlines for me and it's just all too serious, whereas marvel gives me comic vibes too and that's the fun bit
The “Time passes different on Sakar” joke is one of my favorite in the movie; The Grandmaster not only is keeping his true age a secret but the way he looks it’s almost a “c’mon how much do you guys give me?”. 100% sustained on acting alone. Like the “starts with B”, the way he comes back at his henchwoman in legit shock and indignation is what makes the scene. Moments like that is why you hire directors that understand the term “visual media”; That the screenplay is the building structure of a movie, acting and cinematography is what makes everything works. Like how much of this was ad libbed? One of my favorites of the MCU for this, and the MCU is known for witty dialogue, but here is not just the writing, is every element. It tells a story visually brilliantly, from acting, to art direction and set design. (Overly length rant about the MCU aesthetics below, no need to consider. The main thing I wanted to say was said above) People often give so much flack for the MCU being “unimaginative” in these departments, and this movie is the antidote to that. Frankly, phase 3 had some fantastic exemples of visually telling an story that broke the mold that was associated with the MCU: Doctor Strange, Guardians 2, this one, Black Panther... And WandaVision metalinguistic stuff wasn’t something I remember seeing it in a big budget franchise in a long time. I used to be one of the people who complained about the MCU, but after at least 2016 (even with Guardians 1 space opera bonanza and Winter Soldier bringing Bourne-esque aesthetics and themes into the franchise, which was new at the time, being early outliers) I’ve shut my mouth - For the most part... some stuff is still pretty bland, which only makes it more frustrating when we know what they were capable of.
Oh can we talk about how a lot of the wide shots are like paintings of legends? Like when they fight on the bridge and theres the shot of Thor leaping at the army, or when Loki shows up with the "your saviour is here!" Bit. It looks like a renesainse painting, it's so cool!
Calvin Not to mention the score during that scene just drives the emotions of the entire thing past 100. Beautifully heart warming piece of art all around.
“They don’t want to make a fool of Loki in his own trilogy” Loki: 🕳🤺 also Loki: thrown at guards also Loki: zapped by thor also Loki: hit in the head with a can
My favorite part is when Thor really thought Loki turned into a piece of paper. What did he expect to happen? Thor: *pokes card* Loki? Loki: Meblerg it's me *le stab*
I think the best thing about this movie is that everyone was scared to death about Loki ruling Asgard because he's "evil" but he's been Impersonating Odin and ruling Asgard since dark world. That's quite a few movies with Thor away. And this whole time nobody knew it was Loki. So you would think that given the opportunity he's wanted all his life he would wage a couple Wars, or team up with thanos or turn everyone in to slaves. He could have done whatever he wanted he was Odin and Asgard wasn't protected (Frigga was dead, odin was dead, sif who didn't usually fall for Loki was gone, and Thor was gone) *instead he just chills, watching plays, and hanging with the people, and keeping the Law as it is.It's hilarious. I've always loved Loki but now I love him even more.
I'm not even the biggest Loki fan but I have to admit I think that this may be his best Marvel film as the character yet. "I HAVE BEEN FALLING FOR 30 MINUTES!!!!!!"
You just made me see him more likable and you're right I've seen the Thor movies a lot and never noticed the change in the 3rd one, looks like he listened to Thor after about ruling
I need scissors!!!!! 61!!!! I wonder if someone's going to make a 30 minute animation of him falling. That'd be neater than Jorji being accepted- wait he was accepted
Faeriemaid but we’re talking about the movie. from the movie standpoint, comics are external media. we aren’t analyzing the comics here, we’re talking about the movies.
@@Ikajo Because it was a misunderstanding. When they heard A Valkyrie was a character for the movie they thought they meant Brunnhilde. And while I'm not SUPER happy that they made her just to be killed off... at least it WAS against Hela who even in the comics wasn't someone to cross.
This is not only one of the best Marvel movies, but also one of the best movies ever! Taika Waititi is freaking AMAZING! And I am so happy he gave us Korg
Taika makes James Gunn look like a hack more than James Gunn does. I mean seriously, Thor Ragnarok is hilarious and totally entertaining and he makes it look effortless. Whereas Guardians tries way too hard and it shows.
@@scotth3276 oh please i've seen it long before (also flight of the conchords guy is epic) , i've seen countless interviews with Taika on youtube, i've even found his samsung add... Which is also hilarious.
you missed a very clever joke about rock, paper, scissors. Earlier in the movie Korg makes a joke about not having to be afraid of him, unless you're made of scissors. 17:48 Korg (made of rock) accidentaly stomped on Meik (the guy with scissors for hands) Also the reason of the revolution failing because Korg didn't have enough pamphlets (paper)
I haven’t watched Ragnarok in over a year and I’ve been laughing myself stupid through this entire video. Now I have to go back for a rewatch. Taika’s brilliance in how he breathed new life into Thor is just *chef’s kiss*
THIS was the marvel movie that made me like marvel movies. sure, i liked them before. but this for me INTO marvel. i was, i don’t know, uninterested? by how they were directed before. THANK YOU TAIKA. the opening got me to pay attention from beginning to end and truly gave me a love for the franchise.
You didn't include the part foreshadowing Thor's eventual eye-patch! Just before he fights Hela, he looks down at the mural she ripped from the ceiling- and Thor's portrait on it has a crack going through his right eye, where his patch will end up :P Sooooo... blind-shadowing?
You missed one. Remember that big gold statue of Loki? Presumably he had it built whilst pretending to be Odin? Thor sees it when he gets back from fighting Surtur? Go find it. Now zoom in on the crotch. That's an intentional crotch bulge. Someone sculpted that. Some well-respected Asgardian sculptor spent weeks of his life right up in there sculpting a giant Loki-crotch bulge. Now picture this: The best sculptor in Asgard has been called to the throne, because of course Loki will get the best on this project. He's been commissioned to build a gigantic solid gold statue of the late prince. He's created a modestly sized model of the proposed sculpture, and is enthusiastically presenting it to "Odin". "Odin": Fit for a prince. Just one thing you left out. Now, see, this is where my imagination cuts out. Because /how/ did Loki, pretending to be Odin, explain to a sculptor that that was what he wanted? Because at some point in this conversation, the sculptor had to have heard some kind of indication that his monarch had noticed what his late son's crotch looked like. Now I have to wonder if Taika thought all this through, or did someone in the graphics department sit down and have a conversation starting with, "You know what would be funny?" And it all just worked out because it's just that kind of movie.
Sienna Ross They have weird ass magic and technology, Loki can create a fake/magic hologram/duplicate of himself, and I’m sure Odin or at least somebody else on Asgard could as well. It’s not too far a stretch to say that a skilled enough asgardian sorcerer could’ve created a perfect visual representation of Loki, and Odin is like, super powerful.
The whole weapons thing actually just came from bantering between shoots. The props department got carried away with weird weapons and the actors were poking fun at them.
The movie turns 5 today! Still the best Thor film and one of the best, most fun entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Taika Waititi who’s known for indie comedies brings so much more of a colorful, goofy side to the character than we’ve seen and he’s one of the few Kiwi directors to step into the limelight Thor is actually given a personality rather than coming off so heartbroken and burdened by destiny and it’s very funny throughout, he knows when to be silly, charming, subtle and serious His chemistry with Tom Hiddleston proves both of them have plenty to squeeze out; Thor and Loki butt heads constantly but still end up accomplishing much more Can Loki actually be trusted for once even when Thor tries to change him? Blanchett has some of the best wardrobe and villain designs of any of these MCU movies and it helps her acting backs all of it There’s also timely themes in here about history being whitewashed, rewriting it to suit our own needs, covering up our pasts to paint a better picture and forget our past transgressions, it’s true kings and conquerors are proud to have their accomplishments but ashamed of how they got them, a country or kingdom isn’t a place it’s a people that make it Waititi essentially makes an immigration story and several parallels to Aborigines and also inserting subtle Australian branding throughout And the aesthetic of the movie embraces the traditional Jack Kirby artwork from many of the comics giving it a retro 1980’s feel like a pop video Rather some cool-looking action too that matches many comic frames especially the ending and when in slow-motion looks like beautiful illustrations Let’s also not forget the many inside references to past MCU films and callbacks True this is light on story or might worry viewers that there’s so much stuff crammed in and half the jokes end up being a 50/50 ratio but they balance it out figuratively being a psychedelic experience Thor is finally given some proper treatment this time around without relying on too much melodrama and this is one of the best films of 2017 And the best part….this leads directly into one of the best MCU films period!
The snake story was actually an improvisation, and Tom is trying his best to hold back laughter. It fits his character though, so they kept it! Kills me every time
The thing I love about the Nameless Valkyrie sacrifice is that that's what Valkyrie looks like in the comics. They kill off Comic Valkyrie to make room for Movie Valkyrie.
I'm pretty sure he was just straight up dead. In the comics, when Banner/Hulk/Professor/etc die, they go to a special realm of the afterlife with The One Below All in it, who's the source of all of the weird gamma stuff in Marvel. I've probably watched it about 50 times in last few months. It brings me so much hope and joy, listening to you being so excited about every little thing. I mean, the last year or so was rough for everybody but your positivity really helped me and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Thank you.
Thank you for helping out Movies with Mikey! This NEEEEEEDS so much more credit and subscribers.

I love how Banner just quietly whispers “no” when Thor’s telling his snake story 12:28
I LOVE Mark Ruffalo. Since Age of Ultron, he's made a lot of small changes to his character like quietly emoting to himself and physical comedy. Watch him through Ragnarok and Infinity War, especially during the invasion scene. He really made Banner/Hulk his own.

His wife is the only one disappointed that this is a comedy movie. Thor was so much more charismatic in this Thor installment.
I'm just imagining Peter Parker going "I'm nothing without this suit" and then Odin responding with "Are you Peter: God of Suits?"
"Do they call you Suited-Man?"
Are you the friendly neighborhood Spider-Suit?
"That suit is only ment to help you control your power,it was never your sense of strentgh"
“With great suits, come great fashionability”
Nick Fury would be like
"YOU'RE NOTHING WITHOUT A SUIT? YOU'RE SPIDERMAN AND YOU NEED A SUIT???"
Side note on Korg:
His revolution failed because he didn't print enough pamphlets. - Paper beats Rock.
At the end he steps on Miek, thinking he killed him. Miek uses 2 swords. - Rock beats Scissors
Miekka is sword in finnish.
with miek's 2 swords he can make smaller pieces of paper for pamphlets. - Scissors beats paper

Hela does not hate her people, In the past she was probably seen as one of there greatest heroes.
If the people of Asgard accepted Hela I think they would of lived perfectly fine lives
In the end it is once again all Odins fault
Odin failed with Hela and it also really makes his treatment of Loki even worse
Its like he never learned anything from Hela.
To me its seems like Hela only knew war, Odin molded her into a weapon but nothing else so when Odin stopped at 9 realms , Everything Hela ever knew was just suddenly ripped out under her feet. So Odin banished her.
If only Odin shaped her to be something other than A weapon
I do hope Hela returns, I think she is one of the best villains in MCU
I even think she could beat Thanos (With no Infinity stones tho)

One of the things I love about Thor: Ragnarok is that they had a chance to put a 'complex', romantic subplot, but they didn't. So many times I see in these type of movies is: Action hero meets badass girl, they don't like each other, they soon like each other, they kiss in the fight and then magicly fall in love! I love how they avoided all that and just gave Thor a new badass friend.
Yup cool! I still kinda ship them tho lol. The real romantic subplot is Loki and grandmaster lol I’m kidding xD
seeing it in theatres i literally thought she was with the girl who sacrificed herself while fighting hella... But then they confirmed shes bi so she coulda been into thor and im so glad she wasnt! but the gay thing needs more attention
I accept it as canon that she was the girl who sacrificed herself, no one can tell me otherwise.

Yeah. The warm friendship between Hulk and Valkyrie is all that Ragnarok needed. I hate when superheroes get all lovey dovey, really boring
Loved the "snake" story Thor was telling about Loki. If I recall correctly, that whole monologue was something Hemsworth made up on the spot and they kept it.
It's from mythology but he plays it very much in "his" voice that it could have easily just been something he pulled from research and not necessarily from the script

Taika has this gift with films he directs. He is able to create films with the funniest moments in cinema but also have the most emotional moments as well. Not only can Taika create some of the funniest scenes and some of the most emotional ones, he can throw comedy into emotional scenes without it feeling out of place. @@Joe-xo4yg while I totally acknowledge that this was likely a plot contrivance, it can be explained in-universe. Loki's scene with Thor in the gladiator prison suggests that he'd never seen Hulk in person. Plus, it's possible that he had dismissed descriptions of Hulk as another monstrous green alien, since Loki is on a faraway planet with a myriad of alien species, and Hulk is from a planet that doesn't even have space-faring technology, so what were the chances?

i also like the toxic family dynamic that this scene supports: in the first thor film, when loki is holding onto thor for his life, all he asks for from odin is some form of recognision ("i could've done it father!") yet odin, knowing this is all loki ever wanted, knowing loki had already been defeated so thoughrougly, STILL refused to give him that ("no, loki.") which is ultimatly what led loki to letting go and falling into his death voluntarily (which turned out not to be his death, but oh well)
i feel like everything thor, odin, or loki (or even hela) did in this film was representative of where they were mentally and how everything that had happened had affected them, which is just brilliant writing, because everything feels like it makes sense. personalities match up with actions (thor saves asgardians because he's naturally heroic, hela takes control of asgard because it's what she was taught to do, loki betrays thor, and thor knows to expect this because loki is.....loki) pasts match up with mindsets (thor feels responsibility for asgard because he was raised to be a king, while loki has fully embraced his villany because he's always been treated like a villain, thor is obviously emotionally disturbed by odin's death, loki would do anything, *yes, anything* , to gain power on sakaar, etc)
it all feels like a completely different movie, obviously, but the characters are still the same characters, because they'll always be those characters; thor will always be in a heroic role, because he is heroic, and he'll always be the same amount of stupid mixed with kind. loki might never be fully heroic, and that's okay, because that's his character: bitter, traumatized, insecure and a bit scared, but also smug, mischievious and scheming.
sorry, went on a rant there, but the point is: i just really like the writing-
This is so well thought out and I very much agree.

I think it's funny how in norse mythology, both Hela and Fenris are Loki's children.
Also Odin Thor and Loki are blood brothers
and Slipnir made an appearance in the the first Thor movie. Jorgamundr is the only one left
Not to mention the fact he is the mother of a horse
And Hela treats Fenris like a pet rather than her brother, which is kind of rude- but seeing as this is a Thor movie, it's probably one of the most normal familial relationships there.

There's a name for that type of humor? Now I want to look up more names for each type of humor!!
@@harlequeenchannel "Kiwi" is a colloquial term for "New Zealander", so "Kiwi humour" is the equivalent of saying "American humor" or "British humour". With that said, I have always interpreted the little smirk on Loki's face (when Thor awakens his true power) as him thinking "You pissed off my big brother, trust me, that's not going to end well for you guys..."
I wish you gave a "win" to Loki's dialogue during the arena fight between Hulk and Thor

I feel like I'm the only person that appreciates everything Marvel tries. 'm loving the MCU's darker stuff, the MCU's new, funny stuff, what I love about Marvel is that it can do ANYTHING and everyone can enjoy it. This film was stellar for me. So much fun, loved every minute.
mcu is not dark
+Wolfgang Busenitz dark themes through iron man 3 with the ptsd and panic attacks. Bruce when he wanted to kill himself, rocket racoon is depressed as fuck because of his neglect, captain america Ingeneral can get pretty heavy and bucky and the mind control wasn't exactly a barrel of laughs , there's lots of themes that definitely aren't for kids. but I like the mcu because dc just flatlines for me and it's just all too serious, whereas marvel gives me comic vibes too and that's the fun bit
yet when it comes to anything important they dont have the problems holding them back... in dark knight batmans problems hold him back

The main thing I wanted to say was said above)
People often give so much flack for the MCU being “unimaginative” in these departments, and this movie is the antidote to that.
Never forget that the snake story scene was improvised! Also, this video has made me realize how much I love this movie!
Mia C Wow. Thats some good improv
Oh can we talk about how a lot of the wide shots are like paintings of legends? Like when they fight on the bridge and theres the shot of Thor leaping at the army, or when Loki shows up with the "your saviour is here!" Bit. It looks like a renesainse painting, it's so cool!

I've always loved Loki but now I love him even more.
in fact, he engages in less fighting then Odin did and Odin was toning it down after his initial conquests.
I'm not even the biggest Loki fan but I have to admit I think that this may be his best Marvel film as the character yet. "I HAVE BEEN FALLING FOR 30 MINUTES!!!!!!"

Instant sin. That is THE Valkyrie in the comics my dude. Brunnhilde was her name and kicking ass was her game.

Taika directing Guardians 3 will probably be the ONLY choice they could have gone with other than rehiring James Gunn.
Taika has definitely sold me on how modern lighthearted sci-fi should work. Would be interesting to see him direct Guardians 3
Taika makes James Gunn look like a hack more than James Gunn does. I mean seriously, Thor Ragnarok is hilarious and totally entertaining and he makes it look effortless. Whereas Guardians tries way too hard and it shows.

"so thats might as smart as the hulk gets"
Smart Hulk:"Oh hell no, hold my Doctor Titles"
You missed one. Remember that big gold statue of Loki? Presumably he had it built whilst pretending to be Odin? Thor sees it when he gets back from fighting Surtur?
Go find it.
Now zoom in on the crotch.
That's an intentional crotch bulge. Someone sculpted that. Some well-respected Asgardian sculptor spent weeks of his life right up in there sculpting a giant Loki-crotch bulge.
Now picture this:
The best sculptor in Asgard has been called to the throne, because of course Loki will get the best on this project.
Now I have to wonder if Taika thought all this through, or did someone in the graphics department sit down and have a conversation starting with, "You know what would be funny?" And it all just worked out because it's just that kind of movie.
i think this is my favorite comment on this site.
"Valhalla I am coming" in the song when the Valkyrie is walking towards the camera......Nice.

Odin: Are you Thor? The god of hammers?
Thor: No. I’m the god of making dramatic entrances.
That Beer belly damaged me mentally. Great entrance tho
I dont think they will keep that beer belly on Thor for long. It's CGI, and while it's good for character developement, it's also cost money.
Tú Nguyễn Ngọc yeah he won’t be fat in the next movies (probably) but btw, it wasn’t CGI, it was actually a suit Chris Hemsworth was wearing.

The whole weapons thing actually just came from bantering between shoots. The props department got carried away with weird weapons and the actors were poking fun at them.
The movie turns 5 today!
Still the best Thor film and one of the best, most fun entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Taika Waititi who’s known for indie comedies brings so much more of a colorful, goofy side to the character than we’ve seen and he’s one of the few Kiwi directors to step into the limelight
Thor is actually given a personality rather than coming off so heartbroken and burdened by destiny and it’s very funny throughout, he knows when to be silly, charming, subtle and serious
His chemistry with Tom Hiddleston proves both of them have plenty to squeeze out; Thor and Loki butt heads constantly but still end up accomplishing much more
Can Loki actually be trusted for once even when Thor tries to change him?
Blanchett has some of the best wardrobe and villain designs of any of these MCU movies and it helps her acting backs all of it
There’s also timely themes in here about history being whitewashed, rewriting it to suit our own needs, covering up our pasts to paint a better picture and forget our past transgressions, it’s true kings and conquerors are proud to have their accomplishments but ashamed of how they got them, a country or kingdom isn’t a place it’s a people that make it
Waititi essentially makes an immigration story and several parallels to Aborigines and also inserting subtle Australian branding throughout
And the aesthetic of the movie embraces the traditional Jack Kirby artwork from many of the comics giving it a retro 1980’s feel like a pop video
Rather some cool-looking action too that matches many comic frames especially the ending and when in slow-motion looks like beautiful illustrations
Let’s also not forget the many inside references to past MCU films and callbacks
True this is light on story or might worry viewers that there’s so much stuff crammed in and half the jokes end up being a 50/50 ratio but they balance it out figuratively being a psychedelic experience
Thor is finally given some proper treatment this time around without relying on too much melodrama and this is one of the best films of 2017
And the best part….this leads directly into one of the best MCU films period!
The best part of the movie for me was that Jeff Goldblum, basically played Jeff Goldblum if he was a dictator.
Also Korg is the greatest.
Slapstick shouldn’t work but when the ball bounced off and hit Thor in the head I actually laughed out loud in theaters
And the way he sprung up ready for a punch up tickled too.
12:43 and how Loki has that smile like "good times"
The snake story was actually an improvisation, and Tom is trying his best to hold back laughter. It fits his character though, so they kept it! Kills me every time
Honestly, this was probably one of my favorite Thor movies in terms of the comedy level and toughness of the villain
The thing I love about the Nameless Valkyrie sacrifice is that that's what Valkyrie looks like in the comics. They kill off Comic Valkyrie to make room for Movie Valkyrie.
I'm usually not for slapstick, but that ball-hits-back scene made me laugh so hard I almost went into labour and I'm not even pregnant.

I like how Hulk wouldnt come out until Banner was critically injured
He was pouting
I'm pretty sure he was just straight up dead.
In the comics, when Banner/Hulk/Professor/etc die, they go to a special realm of the afterlife with The One Below All in it, who's the source of all of the weird gamma stuff in Marvel. Banner's content to stay dead and be at peace, but Hulk and the other personalities refuse to die, choosing to walk back through the "Green Door" and come back to life. Since it's them that walks back through the door, Banner's body transforms into them as it comes back to life.
