    Ah yes, Hugh White from down under. One of two of my favourite guests on Strategy & Future. Apart from his broad knowledge, he has very likeable personality. The other being Jakub Grygiel with his down to Earth approach and sober analysis. Incidentally, it has been quite a while since you two spoke, perhaps it's about time to schedule another lengthy conversation.

    I always have time to listen to Hugh White. I appreciate his down to earth non ideological stance.

    Dzien dobry. I’m an ardent supporter of your site. It was great to see someone from my neck of the woods discussing these very important geopolitical issues. Hugh White is a very moderate strategist, his opinions are very valuable. I’m personally much closer to our ex Prime Minister Paul Keating’s. Who outraged the establishment in his famous Press Club interview. But we’re in the minority.

    I know this recording was posted three months ago. However, I would love to see a short follow up now that the US Senate has passed foreign aid legislation, and is likely to pass the House of Representatives (maybe not in its original form) that is supposed to provide money to Taiwan and other "Indo-Pacific" investments in reaction to China. Of course, the intention with the money to Taiwan is for Taiwan to use to purchase military weapons and equipment. e.g. Fighter Jets and missile systems. This legislation of course has taken a prominent talking point on US Corporate media and the mantra is Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, as if they are all of equal importance for this legislation to be passed.

    Australian remember Henry Kissinger Quote: “To be an enemy of America can be dangerous, but to be a friend is fatal.”
    Australian should remember, Anglo-Saxon maybe, but you are in the Global South, The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
    The year 2019-2022 was just a sample taste of China's Australia trading option. Understand, China PRC have option.

      Or Britain, or China. Take your pick or pay for a navy. Make steel instead of selling ore. Stand up yourselves, it's time. Australia definitely has what it takes if it looks past the historic defense arraignments.

      @@madderanger7838 Indeed, I'm from the days of Paul Keating, it's been hard to watch the decent into mediocrity. It shows when a guy like Hugh White uses such terms with carefree acceptance.

    28:00 Nuclear Weapons: Like the Philippines of 2023, for Australian to choice whether have or not is not the choice of the people, but the U.S.A. government. Of the reported 5 additional US Base in Philippines, there is additional 4 US Secret Nuclear weapons bases build in Philippines whereas Australia will or already does have US Secret Nuclear weapons bases in Australian at this moment. One being a Lap Dog to USA, is nothing more then under leash pet. fact check it...

    From polish side it's sad to see less intrest towards eanglish materials. I sugest to promote it, so Poles could understand more the problem of balasing between China and USA and as folowing, find ourselves as more independent.

    Its incredibly irresponsible to compare CHINA to JAPAN in the 1939's-40's @ 12 min+. CHINA is not an expansionist state but imperial JAPAN was (+ still holds that ambition). They had already supported the USA/WEST's coalition of the willing ('8-nation alliance') invasion of CHINA in 1900 with ships + troops. JAPAN went on to occupy + colonize KOREA IN 1910 + then invaded + MANCHURIA ('Manchukuo) in 1930 creating a large colonial occupation $$looting CHINA's resources. WW2 in the Pacific actually started with a false flag incident between CHINA + JAPAN in 1937... millions of CHINESE died as a result. 💀

    Very interesting dialogue ! But do the speakers have any idea how the Han Chinese think both in China and in Taiwan ? Only when a Chinese makes an assertion, all the dialogue is between 2 Europeans who carry Western baggage as if they were Hans from China and from Taiwan. If either or both the speakers had learnt to speak Chinese while living years in China or in Taiwan, the conversation is between 2 Westerners.
    If the West cannot decipher how China has arisen to where she is against all conventional wisdom, it is arrogance to postulate Western scenarios as those of the Han Chinese. Get appropriately qualified candidates to debate this course of history.

    Hugh White is supporting labour so his view on China Australia relations is tainted.
    We shall wait and see if this time appeasement of a bully works. It hasn't ever worked before but then again what do I know.

    • @kingsley3208
      @kingsley3208 Год назад +1

      I don’t think that’s true - whites writing since the labor gov came into power has been rather critical of labor, most notably on AUKUS in the 22’ quarterly essay and his writings on the topic in the Saturday paper.
