Although it may have been covered in a previous comment, I don't have time to go through them ;). Funk bass is a style, slap bass is a technique. Slap involves slapping the string with your right hand as opposed to standard fingering. Slap also includes pulling on the strings for a pop sound. Funk is a style of music and slap bass is most often used in funk or R&B tunes. Hope that helps! Keep up the good work!
When I first discovered DL, I always paid attention to the vocal more than anything. As a non-musician who mostly listens to R&B and Soul, instrumentation wasn't really something I cared much about. But the more I got into them, the more the rhythm section hooks me. Particularly the bass. The bass has become my favorite thing about the band. I do enjoy the horns that Cory's musicians bring to most of the songs on this particular project.
You are officially "Loopafied". This 74 year old is obsessed with these cats. As a frustrated wood chopper myself, I gravitate to the kit, and then the bass, same as you. DL have some live music on this platform as well, and I have to tell you... they're just as AWESOME, live!!!

As a one time drummer I have to admit I'm always drawn to the drummer. always considered the drummer as the heartbeat of any band. Aron holds down a bomb proof pocket and then in always the most musical manner throws in these crazy fills. Loops never cease to amaze me with their playing, composition and always that wonderful positive energy. Another nice reaction. Good comments, it's obvious you're really paying attention and it shows. Great job.
I'm a (hack) guitarist, so love Cory Wong, but Henrick's bass playing is impossible to look away from. :D Glad to see this reaction. Insane skills across the board, Cory's horn section(s) are top of the heap, too. Oh yeah.. particularly on D.L.'s videos... read the credits. ;) They're usually rather worth the time.
Focus on which musician first? With Dirty Loops it's too hard to pick one. They make a unity that completes each other. They are amazing separate but just ultimate perfection in so many ways together. #lottalove

It’s hard to focus on just one in this band because they are all so very exceptional, as you will continue to discover as you go down the rabbit hole. And the bloody big horn is a double bell euphonium in case you were wondering.
I am pretty bad at “music appreciation”, so I have to change my focus between listening. First time the most prominent stuff, then bass, third listening Aron, then Jonah singing, then Jonah playing, then how Henrik and Aron play together, then how the composition works, then things a reactor points out. There is always something new to discover, it seems, and it is all phenomenal! Don’t forget about the stupid stuff in the credits, that is also worth focusing on. Can take some effort to grasp the ideas behind it at times, when I have to Google names and stuff.

I just love how they chose to do this classic song in 12/8, instead of 4/4. Personally. I think this version has a much better groove than the original. And that instrumental interlude is to die for. Michael B. Nelson with a double-bell euphonium is the best thing ever. 😄 Slap bass is the technique where you "slap" the string with your right thumb and pull the strings out with your intex and middle fingers (called "popping", I think - I am no bassist though, so I might be wrong). He is doing absolutely none oif that in Work Shit Out, but he's doing quite a bit of it here. I would argue that both of these songs can be labelled some kind of funk though. 😊
And as a brass player myself, I tend to focus on the winds if there are any. Unfortunately way too few groups in this genre have realised that they should use the french horn as well. 😉
That is a few of Cory Wong's sax/brass section. The baritone sax is Grace Kelly....awesome player and artist. And this was recorded in separate continents and sewn together....absolutely seamless.
