I listened to this song during the rock bottom of my heroin addiction me and my husband both did we have been clean for over 4 years now but I remember laying next to each other going through heavy withdrawals feeling like the world was going to collapse on top of us and we would either away into nothing ness but this song always gave a chill down our backs and till this even years clean together it still gives that same chill and it is now our song our personal song for each other and I will always cherish this particular song by brand new
This album also got me thru heroin addiction. Clean now and never happier. Keep it up

It's crazy how obvious everything is from Jessie's lyrics in hindsight. The obvious one's like Sic Transit, and Me vs. Madonna. But then in this song you also get "cause I make little lies and then I pull them apart. Think something dark's living down in my heart."
The "some men die under the mountain" line is probably my favorite, or second favorite, line Jesse ever wrote (that he put out in the public domain, anyway). Poignant reminder of the many ways we can destroy ourselves.

lol 3 year old comment... anyway I think Jesse was raised a hardcore Catholic which is why there's all the Christian metaphors in their music, but I don't think they really affiliate themselves with any religion. A lot of their music is about struggling whether or not to believe in god, so I'd take it they're kind of Agnostic in that sense

yeah, I wouldn't say pop punk... it's not that "peppy" or whatever... alternative is an easy tag to use, that and they actively have a concept of changing their sound... which is pretty alt i guess
+nartnayr Brand New changes from album to album. Just call them a rock band. I'd suggest starting from the first album and listening through all of them. I had the second album the year it came out (2003) and never really got too big into the band until 3 or 4 years ago when I listened to them all.
