I get the feeling Estinien was about to lop some heads off when he asked "Where they got those dragon scales from." cus he probs thought they were hurting said dragon against his will but sounded relieved that the scales were given with the permission of the dragon himself,i feel like Estinien became a full on protector of the dragons now and would be loathed to see or know that the dragons he swore to protect were being hurt,even though he himself has killed dragons before,but him changing from killer of dragons to protector of dragons is such an awesome thing to see for Estinien,i bet if i tried hurting a dragon while he was around would probs earn me a head chopping from him. XDDD but i ain't that kind of person i adore dragons and love them very much!... X3

I JUST watched this a few days ago. It seems to me THAT'S who we should have sent in the fight against Nidhogg ALCHEMISTS. Hell, I think in past FF games that's a legitimate 'caster' class.
I dislike all the jokes they made out of Estinien. Honestly I'm tired of the meme's on him. It irks me he's nothing more than comic relief, and why didn't we stop an assault? That was clearly assault. The morality of this game at times disturbs me, some friends we were.
It is called character development. A one dimensional character in a story will always be boring so adding personalities or quirks like this shows that even though he is a serious and badass character most of the time, he also reacts like any normal human being when encountering a sudden and unexpected situation like this. He is no longer the single-minded dragon killing machine in Heavensward and it is really gladdening to see the personality change in Endwalker now that he is part of the scions. Besides, it is also a common gag in shounen stories where serious characters are sometimes used as a comic relief during a story's downtime. Seeing a Japanese studio using a common Japanese trope in their stories is not really that surprising. Also, what's the point of having the WoL step in when Estinien can basically just do a high jump and skedaddle out of there if he really is uncomfortable with the situation. There's nothing wrong with the scene and it is just the developers having a bit of harmless fun with the characters during a break in their investigation of the tower.
I felt that way right when he changed his hair and they started cracking jokes at him and poking his soft spot. Then... this Tommy Wiseau-directed cutscene dropped and I was laughing for the wrong reasons. There was some good redemption when he teamed up with Vrtra, but then he just kinda fades out of relevancy till the end. They coulda treated him much better, but to some fans its almost like turning Sephiroth into meme fodder.

I rather have some good balance of comedic moments from him than just him being serious all the time.. It makes the character boring if they're always serious.
If Estinen truly wanted to escape, he can jump out of that situation instantly. He isn't in a hopeless situation and he has full ability to say no, given his track record with his attitude. The only reason he didn't is because he wanted to help the scions ... so he begrudgingly took the offer - even though he was in full position to refuse if it crossed his line. So I guess while it was unexpected and uncomfortable, it was okay still. So yeah, character development.

god the whole thavnairian questline with the boys was hilarious, this bit especially got me in stitches :'D so happy to see other people enjoy it too!
So many funny moments with Urianger, Thancred, and Estinien in the last 2 expansions. I love it!
