DIY CNC 010 - Closed Loop NEMA Wiring and Mach3 Setup

  • In today's video, I provide an overview of my strategy for wiring the electronics in this DIY CNC build. Emphasizing safety, I discuss the importance of adhering to regulations in your area and stress the necessity of having a qualified electrician inspect and approve your wiring. I describe the routing of my mains input, highlighting its passage through an emergency stop, a 2-gang selector switch, and two separate fuses. Circuit one powers the VFD, while circuit two handles the rest of the electronics.
    Additionally, I explain how to calculate the power supply wattage required for your NEMA motor setup using the formula provided by Stepper Online. The subsequent segment covers the wiring of both the 24V and 36V power supplies, followed by a detailed explanation of connecting CL57T Stepper Drivers to Closed Loop NEMA 23 Stepper motors. I illustrate how to identify motor and encoded wire pins based on wire colors and guide the viewer through connecting them to the driver. Demonstrating the connection of Pulse and Direction pins to the Mach 3 Breakout Board, I delve into a thorough discussion of the board's 5V and 24V sections.
    A desktop demonstration showcases the control of the NEMA motor via Mach 3 software. Subsequently, I guide viewers on setting up and configuring Mach 3 on a Windows PC, making the process straightforward by providing instructions for pasting in the necessary files as detailed in the video.
    The final section focuses on connecting a NPN NO proximity sensor to the Mach 3 Breakout Board, illustrating its functionality in detecting a surface within the Mach3 software.

    Superb video! i have been looking into this for such a long time and every time i looked i felt more intimidated by the whole thing.     Very informative. Thanks. In regards to the Mach 3 setup, I plan to run an ec300 control board on my plasma cutter table because it has an Ethernet connection. I heard the USB connection boards are prone to interference from the plasma arc. My question is, would an Ethernet connected board be considered a parallel connection in the Mach 3 setup? Thanks.     at 10 minutes you explained that if there is a short circuit in the spindle controller, the spike in current will propagate in the other circuit. The way I see it, those two circuits are in parallel, so how is it possible that the spike in current propagates in that case? Thanks.

    I have been using the same break-out board . It seems there is a problem with the Mach3 backlash function.

    hello , really nice video just I don't understand why you put the 5V to the D+ et P+ ?? I planned to wire the P- and D- to the ground and D+ and P+ to the XD and XP of the breaking board , is this right ??

      5V = Positive Signal. D+ and P+ are the positive side of the signal

    Why does the set up need 2 power supplies, could your big one not run the motors and the board or am I missing something?

      Hey man thanks for your question. In my case, the power supply for the NEMA's is 36V, they take an input between 18-48V. The breakout board requires 24V. You could share the power supply at 24V but I would recommend a minimum of 36V to drive NEMA 23's
