- Daniel Behle as Ferrando sings 'Un'aura amorosa' (The air of love) from Act I of Mozart's opera Così fan tutte, with Semyon Bychkov conducting the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, recorded live in October 2016. Find out more at www.roh.org.uk/cosi
Così fan tutte was Mozart’s third and final collaboration with the librettist Lorenzo da Ponte, following Le nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni. Like its predecessors, Così exemplifies the heights opera can reach when the skills of composer and librettist are perfectly matched. But Così’s reception has always been more complex than that of the other Mozart/Da Ponte operas, with the opera variously considered immoral, unfinished, cruel or simply odd since its 1790 premiere. Now finally accepted as one of Mozart’s masterpieces, it is celebrated as much for its nuanced depiction of love as for its glorious music - a near continuous roll-call of favourites, including the terzetto ‘Soave sia il vento’ and the arias ‘Come scoglio’, ‘Tradito, schernito’ and ‘È amore un ladroncello’.
German director Jan Philipp Gloger makes his Royal Opera debut with this new production of Così fan tutte, following such previous credits as Der fliegende Holländer for the Bayreuth Festival and Der Rosenkavalier for Dutch National Opera. He and his team of regular collaborators take their inspiration from Mozart and Da Ponte’s alternative title for the opera: ‘The School for Lovers’. Don Alfonso, a mischievous theatrical impresario, leads the young lovers on a journey through their emotions, using all the resources of his theatre in a quest to prove to them that, in Gloger’s words, ‘love is not a God-given thing, but something that we have to fight for, find, define, create and dream newly, almost every day’.

I was there and the way he makes the notes float into the air is simply breathtaking. Time seemed to stand still.
Most sensitive and beautiful rendition of this aria I have ever heard!! Bravo!
some of the best Mozart tenor singing I've heard for ages One of those occasions where time stood still
Victor Ellams You said it so well! I felt exactly the same way!
bastianinicorelli
That’s resonance... it’s not in his nose 🤦♂️
@@RadamesAida2Operalovers Not compared to Juan Diego Florez.
@@bastianinicorelli I did not.
Aside from the incredible beauty, it is so refreshing to see someone singing with all his technique so impeccably in place. Bravo! A superlative performance.
Beautiful tenor voice. Sung with such sensitivity, love every minute of it!
I’ve never heard anyone else throw in an optional B natural on the last “Al cor porgera”
But I LOVE it, wow.
A fantastic rendition - I keep coming back to it over the monmths.. Love that dribble!!
He acquits himself very well in this role. Sung with much sensitivity and delicacy!
This is the best I’ve seen this done. So sensitive, like he’s really trying not to wake them, and with the feeling that makes this more than a filler aria that it sometimes can be. He makes it his own. Bravo!
Best Ferrando, bar none. Sublime.
What a control... Amazing
I love your pianissimo
Beautiful voice, great breath control.
This is BEL CANTO at its best. To be able to witness such mastery of the technique and the art of singing nowadays is a great joy. Thank you, Mr.Dehle, and Kudos!
It ideed the best I've ever heard, his control is astounding. Sometimes in my quieter moments I here this beautiful singing in my head. Bravo young man!
One of the best performing of Un"aura Amorosa" i've heard since ages!!!!! Bravissimo!!!!!! The real soul of Mozart...
Oh yes, that's true. 😲
Wow... brillant interpretation. Chapeau! And of course the splendid music of this aria, a masterpiece of Mozart.
Wonderfully warm. Delicated. Love It.
Beautiful performance. Bravo!
Brilliant/elite performance.
Wunderbar!!! Daniel!
...so unglaublich schön!
I am speechless with pleasure at this rendition. This is like I imagined it should be sung. Thank you Daniel.
you are NOT "speechless".
. Ha ha oh troll. The message is Daniel's mesmerizing conveyance of Mozart 's intent. This was soul touching and uplifting. Save your prissy fits for a therapist's office.
It was a beautiful way to express the great leap Daniel has made in the understanding of how this aria should always have been performed. Thank you. Ignore the trolls
Kudos to Daniel and the rest of the cast, saw the BluRay today. Amazing through and through.
wow,che bella voice,grande tecnica,empressine,sentimente,auguri.
Absolutely extraordinary! Both the phenomenal poetic singing of Behle and the accompaniment of Bychkov! This was indeed the high point of the whole performance. Unbelievable that someone today can sing Ferrando with such perfection and such refined poetic feeling! I saw Behle in 2008 in Stockholm in Cenerentola and was extremely impressed. Now I feel transported into Heaven with his singing and Bychkov's conducting.
I totally agree. I myself heard and saw Daniel in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw 2014, in Leonardo Vinci's opera Artaserse. Great singing then, and he's getting better and better. This ROH-performance is to die for.
So beautiful...
Superb singing and the highlight of the performance
Eben. Wunderschön.
unbelievebly beautiful
Very nice. One of the most difficult arias, because it HAS to be perfect and sound easy.
I love the little smile when he has achieved the most difficult part of this aria, the pianissimo on high notes. It totally changes the emotional impact of this aria. Bravo ! I believe many tenors will try to imitate this wonderful masterpiece of interpretation and of breath control
ich kann nur sagen fantastisch. @.@ super Daniel!!!!
Absolutely wonderful! I loved it.
I think very beautifully sung a few surprising cadences which were imo tastefully executed
Not an easy aria too sing bravo 👏
i really got the feeling with this one :' beautiful!
Mr Behle has created a wonderful version of this aria. I believe it will be the benchmark for future performances of Cosi Fan Tutti. It's hard to believe that THIS is not the aria Mozart originally intended. His pianissimo is so moving it brings me to tears. Not bad for what a journalist called a throwaway aria ❤️🎶
Wow absolutely brilliant! Amazing interpretation the best I’ve heard yet.
Absolutely beautiful rendition of the Cosi Un aura amorosa - wonderful phrasing, break control and interpretative quality. Sustained sublime phrasing. Bravissimo Daniel Behle, I shall share this on my FB timeline. Little wonder that the ROH were so impressed. Marie Miller (Henderson-Cleland)
So perfect in every way! Thank you Mr. Behle!
This is amazing! Who else is getting goosebumps?!
I crie every time
Me:) the most beautiful singing of this aria
WOW! I just discovered this today. I've already listened to it five or six times, and I get chills every time. His control of dynamics is outstanding. Such an amazing performance! The orchestra also did a great job.
He sings so rightly !!!!,this is the WAY!!!!!!!!
Congratulations Mr Behle on a perfectly executed new high bar for tenors singing this aria in the future. Not every tenor can sing those high notes pianissimo. Bravo !
This is the best interpretation of this Aia, Superior technique and incredible interpretation. The latter comes from his ability on composition!
superb!
Such a calm and perfect singing 10/10
Fraseggio e scelta del tempo ineccepibili. Bravo!
Too beautiful. Made me cry.
Makes the skin tingle - right there with the historical best ever performances of this aria. Ie Gedda, Kauffman, Krauss. Also Michael Spyres in recent years.
Very sensitive. Really apreciatte! Great Tenor!
Wish could hear him ever live.. recording sounds very delicate and musical but also like is impossible to do that kind of singing on a theatre.. but he is doing it!!
My fav opera aria.
Einfach nur beeindruckend! Wunderschön!
YOU ARE AMAZING! THANK YOU FOR YOUR HEARTFELT PERFORMANCE! 💘🙏🏽🌷☀️☀️☀️
Immer wieder.
Quelle musicalité !!!!!! BRAVO *
Bravissimo!
Believe it or not, I can sing this opera aria. As a trained tenor I don’t have occasion to do it anymore, but believe me when I tell you, it’s one of the prettiest songs I can sing!
@Daniel Behle, you've got a new fan! Bravo!
Ethereal, sublime...
The best version. Amazing !!
Alles Gute!
Proper Mozart tenor.
Wow! He is absolutely amazing and this is really Mozart! Bravissimo 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️💯👌🏻
Bravo! Nowadays an absolutely rarity! Wonderful phrasings, beautiful voice... I admire you))) Much much success. You deserve it.
WOW!!!!!!!!!
Complimenti Signor Daniel Behle !
Fantastisch!!!Sie sind Operstar!!!
Perfection
Wow!
Marvellous, Indeed! (Clappings!)
Greetings from Argentina!🇦🇷
Spitze!!!
Bravo.
beautiful and elegant singing. why is he not better known?
Very elegant.
The singer is so good that he can do it in this tempo, and it certanly sounds very nice. However, Mozart wrote a 3/8 Andante Cantabile, which is a complete other thing. In my opinion, almost all recordings of this aria are to slow, but this is even slower than the rest. This is sung adagio if not larguetto or largo. What happens is that 3/8 becomes 3/4, and that changes the caracter and the pulse.
Exquisit!
❤️💕💕
❤❤
Beautiful. 2:57
mio core e palpito ...
a little bit of Kraus's bell like tone
💎💎💯
In "Bisogno non ha" do you use Chest Voice or Head Voice? (sorry the bad english and the poor therms)

Scusi 😬
Daniel Behle é stato bravissimo lo stesso! Complimenti!
Giuls is
He sings like a pop singer.
After digging around.... this is hands down THE best rendition of this on the internet. It's excellent. The attention to the little details of musicality; When lines were repeated, the color of the voice was changed which makes such a beautiful difference it's... wow this is the best.
I like Behle’s version but I can’t help but coming to Lehtipuu’s :)
His singing is beautiful. The staging not so much.
Am Schönste Arie !
Beautiful voice, great Mozart tenor, great capabilities, lovely rendition, I loved the beautiful Mozart - aria!
BUT, as a classical musician I do have a few observation.
First of all: Un aura d'amorosa del nostro tesoro is ONE big musical frase even if we have to take a breath at the half of it. From 0:32 'Un aura d'amorosa' and 'del nostro tesoro' have the same, repeated melody. In this case it means emphasising therefore we have to change the dinamic of the expression ( like giving a 'poco crescendo' ) toward the repetition ( text; 'del nostro tesoro' ) and again, melt the two half sentence under a big ONE, even if you take a breath. Same situation: 'Un dolce ristoro al cor porgera' must be one big logical unit etc, all along the entire aria it should be consequently executed like this.
Than I do not agree with the director on moving the singer during the aria, non even at the beginning of B part of the da capo aria ( from 1:23 to 1:39 ) also supporting his own body by pushing against the shoulder one of the women on the floor, which is just simply awkward! On the opera stage the beautiful singing is cannot be an excuse for it either!
The da capo part (A) was started a bit weak, in my opinion and again, why do a singer need to move during a beautiful aria?? Total nonsense and acoustically annoying as well.
Apart from the surely mistaken directing and a few musical issues I do love the beautiful voice and the sensitive stylish Mozart interpretation, although it is not perfect yet, but on the level of singing of Daniel Behle it could be easily corrected.
Many thanks
If you liked this, take a look at it sung by Topi Lehtipuu!
The best for me
