That rumor has been debunked NUMEROUS times. He NEVER served in ANY branch of the Armed Forces. He DID register for the draft in 1948 when he was 20 (and was initially classified as fit to serve), he ultimately failed his physical examination due to his color blindness.

This was my Master's Degree Graduation. It was amazing to have Mr. Rogers as our speaker and singing with us. God rest his soul.
His speech was so beautiful that it makes me quite confident that he's doing more than mere resting in Paradise. :)
I was lucky enough to meet him that day....
I volunteered and somehow we ended up in a small room at the same time, he was the coolest guy ever
