Aruba this weekend for 5 days. Trying to figure out where I'm going to carve out an hour a day, without my wife burying my horn in the sand. Thought about bringing the pBone, but 4 days of that will make me nuts, so maybe the Shires by Eastman, so that nothing can happen to the Shires. Keeping a schedule is going to be a challenge this week. But if I skip 5 days I'll sound like a middle school 3rd trombone playing Stars & Stripes.

I always have a problem getting my body into peek performance. I'm horrible in the morning. Then some days when I get to the evening I sound fantastic and both my high and low range are exactly how I like them.

Is there anything you have noticed that helps to support your good days, or indicators that a day is going to be great or not so great? One of the sayings I like is “The thing that separates the true pros (regardless) of profession from everyone else is consistency, the ability to perform the same way day after day.” As someone who also struggles with consistency in playing how I want day in-day out I try to get myself to at least a good minimum level of ability every day, appreciate the days that are good and learn from the ones that aren’t...

Is that your personal bach 42? If so how do you like it

That is my personal 42BO. It is a late-80's model I picked up in grad school; I was always an 88H player and my professor (correctly) felt that I needed more heft for legit orchestra playing. I enjoy it quite a bit; it has a lot of stability at mid-upper dynamics but I still feel like I have flexibility and control in more nuanced settings. That being said, I am constantly being tempted by all of the great instruments I have in the shop (one of the hazards of the job!)
