I started using a fanny pack. Basically happened the same way. Started with a REI with my 43. Worked well but i wanted more capacity ang space. Tried a Fudd style for a bigger gun. Didn't work well for the location I was using the pack. Tried the Spiritus Systems with my 43. Worked great to run with. Needed tad bit more room. Got the Eberlestock XL. Cons first. Materiel is flimsy and will flop open if the zippers are set at the corners. Middle compartment uses only one zipper so if it breaks, SOL with the cargo area. Waist strap is not generous if you plan to use for cross-body (Not issue for me because I'm straight).
Pros... Versatility. You could go full size with a (tight fit) spare or... 365XL and two spare. Built in organization and I love the elastic band. Carries my SOF-T well. I. Sure that newer ETQ would work better. I currently carry a 26 with 17td spare. Slim whistle, button ccompass, streamlight mirco, credentials, phone and keys. Folder, card wallet and chapstick. Sleek design and I do like the large pull zippers. Overall, a solid 4.5. I do plan to get another and I would recommend for a gift. TIP-Try to keep the firearm compartment zippers in the middle. That seems to work best.
