Such a kosher tank! Always loved the Merkava tanks for their unusual look. Maybe i should do one again, but when it comes to IDF stuff i am probably even more intrigued by their Sho´t tanks and AFV Club makes stunning kits of those.
Really appreciate your take on doing a post build review instead of just an inbox review. Would dig seeing some vids of you painting and weathering it too. Keep up the awesome work!
Great video and review of the tank you did a really good job explaining all the details and etc. And building it.Looking forward to the next video on it can't wait to see it painted and weathered
Now you have a pinvice and a jig you can make a 'wire handle bending jig', drill a hole as near an edge you want size and a groove on the edge you form wire over.Chunky jigs are perfect for it.Just finished DML m1 abrams,1st modern armour kit,big on decals.I like the wiring, makes loads of difference. Thanks for vid, good looking build.
Oh now that is right up my street Evan. Very cool mate. The good thing about idf for you I guess is that you can go at it on the weathering unlike a leopard or challenger etc.
Looks good. The modern day tanks really have more detail work required for a build. Wondering if you could cover off painting the cables? Spray or hand paint or combination of both? Leave on or off?, etc. Thanks for posting
Hey!! Great post build review. I really do appreciate the insight these offer in addition to a regular unboxing review- although you also do a great job with those Dragon kits because you point out the instruction errors and let us know which factory versions should have which parts. I'm glad you enjoyed this Merkava- I have a Hobby Boss Mk IV in the stash but this looks like an awesome option for a Mk I. Really like what you did adding the remote control cables and am excited to see the IDF painting/weathering series. Glad that pin vise came just in time! Really the least I could do considering all the help your videos have been for me. Hopefully it will continue to prove useful. Take care! -Chris
Looks good Evan. I'm assuming this is for the group build. I'm going to have to get a Merkava... I just love the shape of that turret. I've started my Sherman but it could take a while.
What would you consider the best armour kits / Manufacturers for those new to modeling , with the balance between ease of build and detail etc . Any chance you can do a vido covering this subject ? Thank you in advance
Nice build of a great kit; some choice little detail bits added there to make it a little different than just OOB. Will we see it painted? Hope so. Cheers, and thanks for sharing.
I use Royal & Langnickel Zen Series 73 brushes. They're cheap ($3 each) and they hold up well to enamel thinners over time. But I usually murder my brushes eventually which I why I don't buy the $20 ones. As for brush types, I usually use 10/0 and 20/0 spotter, 1/8th inch angular shader, 1/2 inch oval wash.
Looks amazing! I think Takom is rather hit or miss with some of their kits (most are still fairly well detailed). Their AMX 13's are quite good, though :)
Hmm...Maybe Meng? Rye Field? There are many good options. Takom is great, but not the best of the best. You can see why on the Merkava where there were missing welds/gaps and a few awkward molding points.
+Verne Beck yes I could let each coat dry, at least for a few minutes. 5 or 10 minutes should be enough -- as long as it takes to clean out your airbrush and mix up the next colour.
I've noticed you stopped doing model building videos and replaced it with post-build. I can understand that ppl might think its boring, but I like seeing the process. What you could do instead is a sort of timelapse/stop-frame action where you take short videos or pictures at certain milestones. That way you can see how it builds up and even voice over parts that you want to address. Keep up the good work 👍
It's not that it is boring for others, it's that filming a build process is very painful and difficult. It's much easier to film weathering and painting. But I will have some upcoming build videos.
It is much better, I can say that for sure. The Tamiya kit is like 40 years old, very poor detail and tracks compared to this kit here. But Tamiya would be a more simple build, if you're not too concerned about accuracy.
HE'S ALIVE!!!
+Night Shift there was a video last week :)

Next IDF thing I do will probably be a Sho't Centurion. They are badass.

+Christopher Posey Thank you! I will have some videos on the painting and weathering :)
Great timing for this review since I received one for Christmas and am looking forward to starting it.
That was GREAT. lookin forward to the paint a weathering. GOOD JOB, as usual
Excellent build review! Looking forward to the painting and weathering.
Great to see you back with a nice Merkava kit. Thanks.

I enjoyed my hybrid version. I left the side skirts off to exposed the pretty boggies underneath.

long time no see. very interesting subject also so hopefully you'll keep on making moar videos of this build. cheers!
Very good review, Evan, thanks 👍

+Small Soldier yes I am doing this for the IDF GB. I should post in the FB group :D
Nice build!
Hello!
Good review. Good luck and all the best!
Thank you!
I have some Takom in my shopping cart. Wondering if I should pull the trigger.
+Luke Hauge well this kit and the T29E3 were both very good :)
@@Panzermeister36 I am looking to get their Type 69.

Nice to see you again!!! Do you have any plans to paint &weathering this kit? Make some video, please. Modern armor is bewitching for me.
+Бронислав Чередников yes I will be painting and weathering it in a video for sure :)
The Commander is on the Right, Loader on the left. (Looking towards the turret)

+cygnusx10 yes I will be doing a painting and weathering video on it as soon as I can find the time.
Looks great!
hello, can you tell more about the brushes you use. which brands are good. what sizes are available. and what types do you use to defend your models.
I use Royal & Langnickel Zen Series 73 brushes. They're cheap ($3 each) and they hold up well to enamel thinners over time. @@Panzermeister36 thanks for the answer..
Very interesting kit !! I'm with a takom t54B. NOT RECOMMENDABLE !!
It's in my cart. I will remove it!
Thanks 😀 !!
Why? I've built their t55m. And even though it's slightly complicated, it goes together really well.
Looks amazing! I think Takom is rather hit or miss with some of their kits (most are still fairly well detailed). Their AMX 13's are quite good, though :)
Today what tank/military kit manufacturer would you consider to be top of the line.
Hmm...Maybe Meng? Rye Field? There are many good options. Takom is great, but not the best of the best. You can see why on the Merkava where there were missing welds/gaps and a few awkward molding points.
I have a question about color modulation, do you let each coat dry before air brushing on the next one? Thanks in advance.
+Verne Beck yes I could let each coat dry, at least for a few minutes. 5 or 10 minutes should be enough -- as long as it takes to clean out your airbrush and mix up the next colour.
Uncanny - that turret is the Millenium Falcon :O

@@Panzermeister36 cool 👌👍
@@Panzermeister36 Speaking of recording, would love to see how you record your videos. Desk view etc.
Funny you mention that. I will have a video up on my setup probably Tuesday or Wednesday as a bonus video.
Can you or someone compare it to the Tamiya kit?
It is much better, I can say that for sure. The Tamiya kit is like 40 years old, very poor detail and tracks compared to this kit here. But Tamiya would be a more simple build, if you're not too concerned about accuracy.
Thanks for the response and happy modeling.
That's one weird looking StuG! 😳😲😉😆😂👍🏻👌🏻👏🏻
Is there a better choice of this tank today?
The Meng Merkava kits are the best, but they don't make a Mark.1 version like this Takom kit.
@@Panzermeister36 Wow. Bingo! Meng has been what I have in mind. Thanks.
I'm confused to see you build first with no painting whatsoever. You do all painting post build?
+Doctor Britain yes, though the tracks, sideskirts, and wheels are separate so I can paint them easier.
mk.1 or mk.1 hybrid ? its a hard choice
