"Haven't got a clue what I'm doing" - that's what the hobby is all about - just doing it is half the fun. Kudos

My favourite cutters are God Hand Nippers. They have a single razor-sharp cutting edge and tend to cut clean and flush, with no gouges or divots. I tend to cut the parts from the sprues with any old cutters, leaving a generous stub, and clean it up with the God Hands.

Hi Greg - another great build. I made this myself but resorted to an all over colour as I couldn't face the urban camo!! Ha ha!!

Hi Greg - Your channel was suggested re this Chieftain build, so as I used to drive one in Germany in the early 70's I thought I would take a look.
Loved episode one, No criticism whatsoever, was amazed that they even put the hatch in behind the road wheel where we had to push our waste out when operating closed down.
The searchlight had a huge gap between itself and the turret but we still convinced the infantry that it was really an escape hatch and watch them try to open the door.
Loved the tracks, they actually had rubber pads on each track so we didn't tear the German roads up, but in war they would have been removed if we had the time, which we would not have.
Looking forward now to part two tomorrow.
    Regards Chris

Thanks Chris, the Chieftain has always been a favourite of mine. Being one of the better looking tanks around at the time, even in green. Unfortunately, the wheels should have been in black and the engine area in bronze. The tracks, I've been told, should have been sparkling clean. Just some of the issues with the finished tank. You live and learn!
      Cheers Greg

I'm building mengs new mk10 chieftain now it's a lovely kit! Tracks are alot better and suspension is movable with springs rubber pads Moulded into the track there workable pin and clip together, different but yeah it's a whole new bread of kit to takoms!

The tracks on a Chieftain are as per the Centurion with very little sag. We used to set the play top centre to approx 1.5" as you would the chain on a bicycle. Nice build, I have done the none desertised Tamiya version but may do this one at some time.

Just noticed the Takom kit has absolutely no cast texture on the upper Hull round the cast markings you need to get mengs new one it's just a whole new ball game casting texture all over the upper Hull round the lettering and engine bay n sides at fuel caps and the suspension covers! They really have done a nice job with new Chieftain mk10 I'm very impressed and it's just falling together beautifully! I've got the markeva mk4 trophy from meng in the stash in the new white plastic and hop that has the same amount of detail for.the anti slip etc the way they have put the time in to the Chieftain! I'm blown away with how nice this meng kit's building up!

As good looking as the Chieftain is ones enough for me, unless someone brings out one in 1/16 scale.

I'm actually working on the mk10 myself. Easy kit to build. For me, the easiest tracks to put together. About 30 minutes a side. Doing a black and green version in Germany in 88.

I've made a couple of Takom kits, and they do seem to add a lot of unnecessary steps just to up the difficulty and workload. I have ordered the Meng Chieftain Mk. 5, which does look an excellent kit with some brilliant moulding of tiny parts on the superstructure to avoid too many tiny parts to fit.

The Meng kit seems to be a pricy kit for some reason.

Hi Greg, what camouflage are you doing? (since you talked about masking, I would guess the Berlin Brigade one).
    - All Berlin Brigade Chieftain photos I found have black wheels / black tank bottom and brown engine deck (plus the turret top is painted in a different way then in Takom instructions)
    - ignore the comment incase you are doing a different one ;-)
Nice video and build so far
