i am very passionate about newjeans (k-pop group) graphic design. especially their photobook and the lyrics inside. literally so creative and i'm so in love. i also really like the korean brand thence and their designs :)
here are 7 " niche design styles" that i like and honestly they are so good you will probably like them too: - dobem juice boxes, this is a brazillian juice brand and each flavor(?) has a different character for the fruit youre drinking and a simple bright color for each juice which makes the packaging look amazing (and cute). they also come with lots of funny text full of personality all around the box. there are even secret messages behind the juice boxe's ear its so cute fr - japans prefecture flags, idk what they mean but they look fire. each one resembles a very heavily stylized japanese character and it looks modern yet very good - iphone's default app icons, not really much to say here i think most ppl agree - gogo's crazy bones reboot, not sure if everyone is familiar with them but they were collectible toy characters around like the 2000s and early 10's with an amazing, slightly abstract art style and simple colors and patterns resembling street art and grafitti. they came in multiple series each one with a new cast of designs (the best ones being the extreme, cool and explorer gogos imo). some of these character designs are so good i actually cant believe i just wrote them off as another toy as a kid - road and street signs from around the globe, they seem to have a similar style no matter where you are on earth but still different enough that from the limited number of countries i have been i can tell i am not in brazil just from the vibe they transmit - the neography subreddit, i like how they combine their scripts and conlang ortography into cute little graphic designs - the fifa world cup city posters, idk
Here are my favorite "Niche designs" (may or may not be 7): 1. Borlas de Pastillas -Its the craft of making intricate cutouts out of crepe paper and using the cutout as packaging for the pastillas, a type of milk candy. The designs usually feature flowers and sometimes have silhouettes of houses and people. 2. Philippine Jeepney Signboards - Jeepneys are the typical local way to travel in the Philippines, so drivers would hang signboards on the window to show where their route is. The two main styles are: Handpainted letters in red/black/blue with yellow shapes in the background or a black background with blocky letters in neon colors like pink, green, or orange. 3. Ed Emberley's Big Green Drawing Book (specifically the 1972 version) - I remember buying this at a local flea market as a kid and being absolutely fascinated at how Ed Emberley could make animals, boats, and lighthouses out of simple shapes that kind of remind me of the Peanuts comics. The minimal color palette of green, black, and white, made the instructions easy to follow. This book may also be responsible for making green one of my favorite colors. 4. 100 Questions Filipino Kids Ask (the red book) - It was basically a trivia book filled with multiple art styles (both digital and traditional). A lot of the art styles were filled with curved fonts and kids with noodle arms, so it was fun to look at. 5. Locally Juice packaging - Locally's logo is just a whimsical font that looks handwritten, a lot of the fruit flavors have vibrant packaging colors like sky blue or seafoam green 6. King Choc Nut packaging - similar to how the White Rabbit candy is iconic, everyone in the country recognizes the red pinstripes and drop-shadowed font of this childhood classic. 7. Tarantadong Kalbo - He is a political comic artist and you can easily recognize his style with clean shapes and outlines with a pencil texture.
i love these vidoes bc i completely understand your thought process like when you see something that inspires you or hits that sweet spot in your brain it's not always a poster or cool branding sometimes it is just a cat on tiktok
A super niche design style that I love (not so much typography) is the detailed graphic chef/ baker decals that are on windows of those small Viet bakeries. Usually the figure and the clothing of the chef is quite detailed, but the face is often just two dots for eyes, a nose and a line for a mouth! I find it absolutely hilarious that the artist spent time finessing the folds of the chef's clothing, and the tray of baked goods they're often holding, but seemingly only spent 2 second painting the face. Lmao. There aren't many shops/ shop fronts like this left but there some around Sydney still! This may only exist in Australia I'm not really sure, but I do love it. I wish I could attach a photo of what im talking about.
the whole card design of the pokedex of the new pokemon was my favorite thing, include a little of good design can make something very fun or nice to the eye nice video Elliot, I like hearing you talk about the things that you're passionate about! 🤗
my favorite niche design style is the English subtitles from the songs Kilma, Shama, wozwald, etc. they're genuinely SO GOOD!!!! they're built into RUclips and are so nicely animated and match with the video, I forgot who originally added the subtitles but man are they awesome.
I love British seaside typography and design. It’s always fascinated me since I was a kid. (Who makes these and how did they choose fonts and colours and do the same people make them for ALL the seasides..?) Think saturated pink signs with candyfloss in curved font, giant life size ice-creams, fancy signage on Amusement arcades full of coloured bulbs.. and then there’s the aesthetic colour pops of candyfloss, stripy coloured “seaside rock”, buckets and spades, ice-cream menu signs, beach huts with pastel stripes, win a toy machines with rainbows of brightly coloured fluffy toys piled up. Our seasides often have an amusement park too with a colourful Big Wheel, Helter Skelter (a curly slide), and all sorts. Even Hook A Duck is aesthetic to me - so much yellow and almost a scatter pattern of orange beaks. I’m also into bed design! There are some amazing bunk and cabin beds out there.
I rly like these! I bought a book of rave art (like tickets/flyers through the decades) once and its probably my niche design im passionate about, its got a real specific aesthetic
i work in a cafe and sometimes i see the designs for produce boxes and there's something in the way they design those boxes that scratches an itch in my brain. maybe its the misalignment of colours during the printing process or the clip art-esque illustration of fruits and vegetables or the vibrant palette....... either way it so cool i hope the designer for these produce boxes are living a good life
Great video! I always like finding new styles. Shirts that go hard is one of my favorite pages. Here are a few examples of styles that I really like: - Walter Wick's photographs for the I Spy books. I'm not sure how to contextualize how I fell about these photos, you just have to look at them. - The art for fast food bibs from the 90s. I have ones from both McDonalds and Chuck E. Cheese. The McDonalds bib style is very similar to the short children's books that they released. - The box and instructions for the amazon fire stick. Every single bit of space in the packaging is used to the fullest extent, and the instructions on how to set it up are very simple, yet still have a lot of detail (both in the text and the illustrations). It almost reminds me of the instructions for the wii. - The art on the "domino rally" or "domino express" sets from the 80s and 90s (both on the front and back). The front has a drawing of what the dominoes look like while set up in a smooth air brushy comic-book-esque style. And the back has a photo of what the dominoes look like set up in a completely dark room, with nothing in it except for the colorful dominoes and accessories. - 90s taco bell interior. There were squiggles everywhere, the main colors were purples, reds, teals, and pinks. The tables and booths have a very distinct pattern of lines. - On a similar note, the interiors of pizza places and this one buffet called "fresh choice" from the 90s and 2000s. There's just so much character there. I feel like this one is probably mostly due to nostalgia. - the water-filled electronics of the 2000s. Just look it up, it's so goofy but in a lovable "I want all of that" sort of way. - The pictures of food in cook books from the 50s-80s. They were both so warm, and so distant. I have similar feelings towards the photos of quilts and stuff from magazines of that time as well. - kitchenaid stand mixer ads from the 70s-80s. The table with a stand mixer on it in the void with some informative white text. This kind of branding was used for other appliances too. - rooms inside that are meant to imitate what the outside looks like. Like that one doomsday bunker in Nevada, or that one picture of a room that looks like the beach and has a ball pit that looks like water. - The old web (web 1.0). This period of time on the internet from the 90s to the early 00s is so special, because there weren't really any set design rules for websites at the time. Just pure chaos. I don't know if I would consider this a style though, since it's such a broad topic. - drive45 videos. They're so strange, but so enjoyable. - Gumby sets. A lot of times, it's just a pure white background, but the world that exists around the green clay guy is very distinct. - The heffalumps and woozles scene from winnie the pooh. I don't really see anything like it. The characters are moving in all sorts of ways, they're changing shape and size, the colors are moving all around in such a way that is so unique in its execution. - Noah Verrier paintings. He paints junk food with oil paint. The subversion of the very fancy looking art style and the very not fancy subject is very pleasant. - BennyCake videos. They make very cute and fancy looking cakes. The videos themselves are surprisingly eerie, though. Like the music and lighting and sounds and stuff. Sorry for the long comment! 'm excited to see your next video! :D
my braces bands aren’t ormco but they also have animals on the bags, just hyper-realistic ones (like an elephant, turtle, gorilla, sea lion, etc) very fun and i usually get the elephant which is my fav animal.
the quasi boards are rather unique amongst other board brands, they even poke fun at some gimmicky skate trends from the past, also, pass port has really nice boards too
i have watched like three of your videos and know you for a half of the day but you've already become my parasocial bestie and i adore everything you do (also wow your posters damn so cool......)
I don't know how your channel is so small. I know nothing about design/art but I love watching you talk about it and seeing all the cools things you show
got really exited from the very beginning of this video because i've had braces too and can definitely remember an adorable chipmunk on the packaging now, although it seemed like such information has disappeared from my brain a long time ago. thank you elliot!
One of my favorite little reoccurring bits of graphic design are the Precure logos over in Japan. Each season is its own little self-contained story that is very heavily themed and a lot of that gets explored in some very fun ways in the logos
I have binged so many video's since I found your channel. The movie poster video I found first because I am a film major myself. But I fell in love with every video! I hope people aren't mean to you in the comments anymore because your channel is AMAZING!!!! Love from Belgium

I was in stream recently and shared that I accidentally gave myself a baby mullet as well, and I have since graduated to full intentional mullet so I love this continued solidarity
woow you brought me back, with those elatics bags haha, I always liked the design when i was a kid, but i hated to put thoses evil elastics in my mouth haha
ive been doing this stuff for 3 years, i design merch, track art, posters and logos for mainly heavy bands and that. i have steady clients, and ive never not had work for like over 2 years at this point, but my ig has been capped at 1.5k since 2020 and its pretty soul crushing, i know my work is good but i never seem to have any social media growth at all no matter what i do, i dont really know where i was going with this comment to be honest, its sort of escaped me, but if anyones got any words of wisdom id love to hear x sick video elliot as always 💜
I really like the new jerseys! Think all of the branding looks very clean too. Know a lot of fans aren’t crazy about the new ‘M’ logo but it’s pretty cool in my opinion shrug
Random unrelated question, but have you ever had a client that only wanted justified text? At the company I am working for this is a struggle hahaah HYPENS, BAD KERNING, WEIRD SPACING, it just hurts. 😂 Also I love your videos, your style is so unique and very inspiring, I want my art style to be evident in my designs like yours! Don’t give up, your videos bring something so unique to RUclips!!
hey hey - you should check out a painter called Alex Colville whose paintings look like 2000s PC games but were painted in the 50s-70s! mind blowing + low key still trying to figure out if his paintings are some Big Internet Joke love what you're up to btw!
hi elliot i love your work and content :) i'm in my junior year of high school and would like to start building my design portfolio for uni. how should i go about it? where should i start?
they're pretty much only on instagram i think! i got the dog and the candle boy from 108 Warehouse but got Dr Toothy by just DMing them directly! instagram.com/cawcowofficial/
i am very passionate about newjeans (k-pop group) graphic design. especially their photobook and the lyrics inside. literally so creative and i'm so in love. i also really like the korean brand thence and their designs :)

vintage indian matchboxes is another niche design i would like to recommend. They use very vibrant colors and really beautiful illustrations.

- iphone's default app icons, not really much to say here i think most ppl agree
- gogo's crazy bones reboot, not sure if everyone is familiar with them but they were collectible toy characters around like the 2000s and early 10's with an amazing, slightly abstract art style and simple colors and patterns resembling street art and grafitti. they came in multiple series each one with a new cast of designs (the best ones being the extreme, cool and explorer gogos imo). some of these character designs are so good i actually cant believe i just wrote them off as another toy as a kid
- road and street signs from around the globe, they seem to have a similar style no matter where you are on earth but still different enough that from the limited number of countries i have been i can tell i am not in brazil just from the vibe they transmit

I really like the new jerseys! Think all of the branding looks very clean too. Know a lot of fans aren’t crazy about the new ‘M’ logo but it’s pretty cool in my opinion shrug
Caw cow is also a tattoo artist. When he was in Melbourne I got two tattoos from him 😎

At the company I am working for this is a struggle hahaah HYPENS, BAD KERNING, WEIRD SPACING, it just hurts. 😂 Also I love your videos, your style is so unique and very inspiring, I want my art style to be evident in my designs like yours! Don’t give up, your videos bring something so unique to RUclips!!

hey hey - you should check out a painter called Alex Colville whose paintings look like 2000s PC games but were painted in the 50s-70s! mind blowing + low key still trying to figure out if his paintings are some Big Internet Joke
