I probably have never agreed more with every single word being said in a vlog. Adding to this quest for evergreen vids - I appreciate conversations that are fun and meant for my table, not for my shopping lists or fears of missing out. This is why this channel feels so perfect to me. I unfollowed almost all Dungeontubers and live play shows who introduced me to the hobby: there's only so many books I can read and now it's time to play and run games for me. Your channel supports me doing just that. Spirits of the bookshelves had their fill, future calls for fun chaos mistakes lol. And it just feels nice to hear from you.

To me you are literally the reminder of "every kind of fun is valid" and source of help about communicating my own ideas of fun to people I meet. imo People like you are part of the future of this hobby, I have a whole thing about it theme-wise and sustainability-wise, have you heard about ikigai?
It definitely is! But it's also a very opinionated hobby. That's very kind of you. I appreciate hearing stuff like that. I think when you post things online, you tend to remember the negative and overlook the positive. Or maybe that's just me. I just looked up ikigai and I got two results. One is a Japanese ideal and the other is Indian. Which one were you referring to?

I see what you're doing there with that "I heard a bear" comment... I was glued to the screen looking for a bear the rest of the video. haha!! Great videos and I love your songs at the end. You should start a separate playlist of your songs. Maybe a song for each RPG you talk about. So if someone asks me..."Hey Mike, what's it like to play Mausritter?", I can just shush their lips and press play on your bard song of it.
I recently bought Mausritter because you talked about it and it sounded like a game I would like despite the mouse thing seeming a bit silly. Man, I am glad that I did. Mausritter is so sweet and I am stoked to get it to the table. For me, your channel brings to the hobby just the sort of quirky, thoughtful and creative content I hope for. Cheers!
This was excellent! I love the idea of grabbing a favorite rule and talking about it. Also, I really appreciate your focus on independent games. I don't hate the & game, but I'm also basically indifferent to it. The next edition could come with the winning lottery number, but I won't see it because I'm just not interested. Keep on doing that which brings you happiness!
Id like that series where you pick your favorite rule in a game. I’d extend it to top 3 rules so we can lean more about the game. I’m always looking for interesting rules to hack into my games and mix it up!
I do love the “Walking Through the Woods” vlog style stuff! Also I really enjoyed the advice about making mistakes, because those “Oh, crap…” moments really do lead to usually the most memorable moments at the table

I subbed and view a lot of channels and very few lost me after they lost their way or took a turn I didn't want to take with them... 'scandal'. But once I saw a channel, a bit weird, for some guy was walking in a forest all dressed up, but giving good advice and at the end he sang a little song... and I like that.
The great thing about a hobby is you do it for fun and as such who cares if you make a mistake. The issue with a "community" is with a community you are always compared to everyone else in it and as such you are expected to maintain certain "standards" which kills the fun.

Like you I'm an oldtimer interested in more than just the "big two/few". So I'll definitely hang around for a bit. At least until I get enough structure/rhythm in my life again to actually play (either side of the "screen").

@ElderGoblinGames trying to find new people for an in-person one. Dinnae help I can't go to most public places (for long) before getting overwhelmed. But me being in Scotland we should have enough overlap to nake things work. Fingers crossed your in-person game goes the distance though.

Best (and worst) rules would be interesting. There have been a lot of new systems recommended by RUclipsrs in the last few years, but many of them have a key mechanic that hits me wrong and keeps me from wanting to dive into it.
0:50 "I've seen a lot of those channels die out or shift into news channels..." Professor Dungeon Masters first 50 videos are amazing. His second 50 videos are great. After that, there's nothing I would really recommend. I figure there's only so many hot tips one person can give, then you're out of hot tips. Matthew Colville said he feels he accomplished what he set out to do with his Running the Game series, and he's not quite done with it, but he's basically only got a few Running the Game videos left in him. Runehammer doesn't make any more Trap Theory Encounter Building videos anymore and he's said he's got other interests with his channel now. Were I an RPG youtuber, I would be done after a few videos and find something else to do too.
Oh there are near infinite aspects of TTRPGs I could talk about. They're just so many facets to them. Some just interesting or entertaining, others vital and helpful. It is a hobby unlike any other.
@@Joshuazx that is the rub. Make enough content to stay relevant, but keep making the content you enjoy and would watch yourself. That's my goal anyway.

I know what you mean. Prof DM (dungeoncraft) seems to be mostly about sensationalism and controversy these days, and Ben Milton at Questing Beast hasn't done an rpg reviews in quite awhile. Etc. I actually enjoy discussions about different homebrew rules, how to implement them, the consequences of one approach versus another. And i like reviews of rpg products, especially stuff that is NOT about Pathfinder or 5e. I always seem to lose interest in content that is centered around 5e. Check out Redmage, also Dave Thaumavore.
I love all those channels you named, but there does seem to be this new wave of content I'm just not interested in. And I have some older videos about those topics you named, with plenty more brewing!
Totally understand. I always try to hook em with a really good one shot, maybe lure them with the promise of good snacks and drinks. "It's an experience unlike any other. You won't even miss video games while you're playing!"
@@ElderGoblinGames I will have to set up a "Heroes' Feast" BBQ and make it very clear on the invite that it's a Heroes-Only kind of Feast. Even if they don't enjoy that single game of TTG roleplaying, it would mean the world to me if they could just _try_ any kind of TTG instead of defaulting to their daily videogame addiction. It seems like they dislike playing as a character (the roleplaying) and sitting around a table for hours. Sadly ironic how much they enjoy 'Magic the Gathering' but reject all TTG because "too slow"
Maybe they would enjoy a "meat grinder" adventure like a DCC funnel. High action, lots of combat, and controlling multiple characters like MTG monsters. Then before you know it, have them invested in the lore then MAYBE, they'll get into roleplaying 😅

There are a ton of TTRPGs that need a highlight. DW has some great mechanics in there.
