@@TacticalKeyboardOperator if you reread my comment I wasn't talking about any roll cage 😂😂 I was talking about how he doesn't have a net and his arm through out the window because the wreck was so bad he passed out and went limp
Hi, no I don't race any more, not because of the crash but financial reasons. I was racing on a very tight budget and this crash wiped out my savings and a lot more, I was off work for 4 months unpaid. The crash was due to an unfortunate series of events and it's very rare for this to happen especially on the road. Hope you have fun with your roadster.
@@jstewart627 No I don’t appear to have any side effects from the accident, everything repaired ok. I had dizzy spells for quite a while after, especially when I looked up, but they stopped after about 6 months.
It wouldn't have done much good considering that the door catch failed. The MX5 doors are frameless too so there would be some issues installing one, unless you compromise your ability to quickly exit the car.
Nonesene! The net gets installed to the roll bar and top door bar (lower rollbar). There is no way that net is coming off. There is also a center net that goes between the roll bar/harness bar, and a spec 8 eye bolt that comes through the center of the dash. You see enough wrecks and you wont run without those
Sebmeister window nets would have done nothing.... in open wheel racing, we wear arm restraints to keep our arms from coming out of the car. those should be required in any car that has an open top or doors etc. I never drive a racecar without them and I've flipped over quite a few cars (open wheel)
@keborylam The Safety Devices roll cage is higher so a hardtop cannot be fitted, it gives extra clearance above the drivers head so you can use the standard seat mountings, my helmet did not make contact with the roll cage and was not damaged. Unfortunately it's not until you have or see an accident like this that you do things to make it safer, arm restraints are compulsory for next season so it should protect drivers arms in the future especially when their unconscious.
+William Seroyer The hardtop wouldn't have helped. It's essentially made of plastic and would've disintegrated during the first roll. Watch some other crashes with the hardtop on, you'll see.
@@Edward135i Here's an idea: Mazda should just put a fucking roof on it already. I don't want a convertible. I have a motorcycle. My definition of a car includes a roof.

Didn't he learn anything from Initial D? Only the AE86 Corolla can pull off the 'gutter-rub' technique. As was proven in stage 4, Miatas tend to roll attempting such maneuvers. Case in point..
Mark good to know you are doing well that was one crazy accident man i think you flipped like 6 times and that arm out is what scared me the most. but its good to know you are doing well i hope you get back and continue racing
So does this series require arm restraints? In SCCA Pro Racing's MX-5 cup series window nets are required. alararacing.com/wp-content/gallery/racing-gallery-1/dsc_0134.jpg
glad to hear you're ok Mark! It takes balls to race cars at any level so fair play to you. I'll be supporting you when i see you on motors tv in the future!!
@xxnissansilviaxx - I was unconcious so could not control my arm and your right, if I could of kept my arm in the car it would not have been broken. Thanks
Mark, I appreciate this video on youtube because it highlights and illustrates the need to take precautions in the little roadster. My wife was trivializing me to whether or not we need to spend the cash for a rollbar/cage.. after watching this, she too is amazed and glad you have made a full recovery and she's also wondering if I've ordered it yet..
No I am not racing anymore, I've hung my helmet up. A half roll cage is better than none, but I've seen lots of mx5 crashes and they very rarely roll over, I was just unlucky. Good luck with your autotesting.
Ouch. That was a bad one, I was wishing you could pull your arm in before it went under the roll cage but I suspect you were unconscious for a good few seconds before it finally came to rest. Glad you got out without too much damage, hope you never had to go through anything like that again.
The rule is to go where the spin starts as usually the spin away from there. But for those saying not to pass a spinning car, this is motor racing so of course you do. In your mind you are thinking "great, just gone up a place"
I have to agree about some of the comments. Most people think I hit my head and was knocked out, but it was the g forces, my helmet didn't have a single mark on it. It's very difficult to control yourself when your unconscious.
Oh my god, that's not the first time I see an MX5 flip that badly in video... That scares the hell out of me, as I tend to take it they're pretty safe cars to drive!
I can't thank you enough for posting this video. I may not ever be able to unsee the flopping around, but I think you probably just added a few seconds to my lap times! LOL
Hi, The roll cage was manufactured by Safety Devices and was designed especially for racing. It has diagonal cross bars and door bars so it is impractical for a road car as you have to cut away the inside of the door and remove the glass. For racing and track day use it's a must.
i was really surprised to see a mx5 roll that hard! they are like go-karts, such a low center of gravity. This is the first time i have ever seen one roll...
Absolutely wild man...amazing how much of a rag doll we become in that kind of situation.... unconscious or not. Watching that car come down on your arm right at the roll bar pivot point.... made me cringe. Glad it was just your arm though! If it's what you enjoy though.... Keep racing! Do what you love. I hope next time the guy in front of you learns how to drive.
He was out , concussion rendered him unconscious looked like the roll cage rolled on his arm and he wasn’t moving once the car stopped. Those nets across the shoulders to keep the arms in look like a great thing after seeing this video.

Only a broken arm from that insane crash?! You should send Christmas cards to whoever welded your roll cage for the rest of your life. Hahah!
