    Your hands remind me of my Father. He was happiest when he was working with his hands.
    He went to be with the LORD in 2017. This video was a sweet reminder of my precious Dad! Thank you Mark!

    The layers of seasoning will coat the bottom of the Lodge pan and make it smooth. You just need patience. Lodge is made in the USA in South Pittsburg, TN. It’s really the only real cast iron foundry left in the US, aside from some smaller boutique shops.

      All my good cast iron is smooth to start with.

      @@markellyfarmI don’t mind the cheap rough pans. If they are seasoned well I haven’t noticed them cooking much differently than my antique cast iron.

    Wow, a cast iron spatula....that is so inventive! How cool is that?! I love the way it turned out and that Tabasco pan is a treasure! Thank you for all the info you gave on cast iron!

    The number 8 cast onto the pan does not mean it's 8" across the bottom. It refers to the stove eye size on the old stoves that that pan fit.

    That's a really cool idea. It looks like a great spatula but I never thought of making one out of a cast iron pan

      It’s cool.
      But frankly you’re just trashing a perfectly good skillet just to make a sub par spatula.

    But if I ever find an old iron pan I’m going to make my own also.

    Nicely done! I use painters tape to make my lines for cutting, but only use pans that are cracked 🍳

    The best cast iron pan to get as a weeding gift is one that's been handed down generation to generation. That's what I got from my Grandma's.

    Cool!! I’ve never seen one of those either!😱
    The cast iron pans I have are some I have picked up over the years. My mom is still using Grandma’s good pans…which will be bequeathed to me some day. There are one or two pans I have that are not as “wonderful” as others. Probably a dumb question because you likely mentioned it, but would it work to make a spatula out of the pans that are not that great? One of the pans, I’m certain is warped. Is a spatula a good makeover for a warped cast iron pan?

    GRANNY'S PANS WERE SMOOTH BECAUSE IT WAS SALT GLAZED

    • @TKC_
      @TKC_ Год назад +2

      They finished the actual metal smooth back in the day to make it easier to clean. The nicer pans were thin like that one to be light and easy to handle which required good iron. That was actually a nice pan. I have one it’s my favorite. It was made by Wagner but unbranded for cheaper stores. Now people use cast iron only when they want a big heavy pan to sear stuff or that’s oven safe, but back then it was the only choice.

    • @GilaMonster971
      @GilaMonster971 11 месяцев назад

      They also used a finer grain of sand for casting them until workers started dying from silicosis from breathing in sand dust.

    Hello, I don’t think I have ever seen a cast-iron spatula. I would love to have one I would be willing to pay you whatever cost to make me one if you would greatly appreciate it not have to be seasoned. I will season it here at my house just tell me how much you want to make me one. Yes it is getting very hot. I live near Owensboro Kentucky. He is 106 here today.

    • @markellyfarm
      @markellyfarm  Год назад

      Thanks for watching Donald! It wouldn't be cost effective for you to have me make one. Do you have any local people that can cut metal? Any welding shop could do it. Show them the video and have it made locally. The one I made is already spoken for.
