One of the only ways to fix your canels is to lower and terraform the entire island before you do anything. Make the entire island nice, low and flat. Might be worth it.
yeah, from the very start when he put in the canals you could tell that desperately needed terraforming down to beach level before putting anything in there, it was doomed from the start, no canal inside a city should be using anything but the minimum depth for wall height.
Loved just watching the people in the montage at the end getting off the ferry and shimmying up the poles on the pier!! That's a Krypton Factor challenge for them right there! 🤣
The problem with your canals is that the water will remain at sea level. You have three options: You can lower the terrain by the canals, raise the water level (I'm sure there is a lock asset that will allow that), or pretend the passengers at the ferry terminals are using a lift or stairs.
You could call it “Port Roy” - The island could’ve been a small port town before being converted over time to its now tourist style island. You could add some older historical buildings and maybe some piers and harbours to give it an old school port feel just on one corner of the island!
That canal has a water problem because it slopes up from the ocean level. It takes some work to get it to make them from below ocen level, but it would fix that problem
Yeah, the water is ONLY coming from sea level. Maybe if he had a bunch of sewage outlets in the middle of the shallowest canal, that could bring the water level up?
Or he could add a water outlet (used for making waterfalls, lakes etc) to produce water in those canals. However, your statement is absolutely correct. "The slope to steep" is this issue as the land is too high. He should slope the land down to at least be "sea level" or deeper. I'm with Biffa though. @Dbeezt you have to still keep it above sea level but make sure your beaches are the lowest points on the island and that your canals are deepest in the middle of the island and shallow on the outsides. Also when you are shifting terrain near water, don't pause time or at least don't resume time at the fastest day speed; the day speed actually affects the water physics for some reason
Hi, I think the idea of intercity bus stations is to put them on the outskirts of the city so that the intercity busses wouldn't have to go through all the inner-city traffic, and have the city-busses handle that. Instead, not only did you place the intercity bus terminal so that the intercity busses would have to cross the entire city to get there, you put it on beachfront property. Who does something like that?
I think it's fine to imagine the ferry passengers getting on an elevator ride that takes them up to the dock, if you don't want to completely change the island, since it looks very cool and unique.
Let's upgrade the road to the ferry to trolley bus one - and let's totally ignore it and run a bus service there - Biffa the gold fish🤣 Also when there is a slope too steep for a road to be build, there are landscaping tools, who works under water as well 😄

Until then I’m off to be super dad and the human climbing frame all in one good luck with the build
I think the whole island needs to be lowered before building on it unfortunately. Water heights always make my teeth itch in this game with how inaccurate they are. Fingers crossed CS2 has a solution to this. P.S. A sneaky Move It mod fix would not bother me here at all so you don't have to completely redo the island by hand.
The tunnel starting so close to the water line would never happen. That whole idea starts to spaghettify your city which makes it look haphazard and thoughtless. Sorry if that sounds harsh.
Biffa - The trick in working with canals is that you must first terraform the land into a valley and have that land just slightly higher than the waterline. Once you do that you can easily place it now and it will look better overall with the map. Because remember canals are artificial rivers.
I second this! Take out the canals, just some valleys down to nearly sea level, and put them back in. The water will always be the same height as sea level but the valleys will save you having to terraform your whole island!
For the ferries on the island you can't rely on the ocean to fully fill them, usually I run a pond somewhere that is connected to the canals or part of the system then have some water outlets (not the sewage ones) underneath the pond, run a separate water system with pumps somewhere and have the water outflow of that pond fill the canals for the ferries.
In Michigan we have a tourist destination called Mackinaw Island, no cars only horse carriages and bikes. Colonial forts and grand hotels. It’s fun to recreate!
37:40 Only way I know of in vanilla is to tear down everything and lower the land. You've basically built a canal through a rise in the terrain. And while doing that you need somewhere to dump all the soil you dig out and probably end up making a 2nd island, or maybe a small mountain.
Na the tunnel that starts at the beach has to go. Make the area pedestrian only to receive goods. Basically make it self sufficient. That tunnel doesn't seem plausible at all
i’m not sure you’ll see this but could we get a quick tour of hugoslavia in your next video to see everything that’s been done so far? Been watching its creation these last few eps and would love to see a short sweep of the city with your narration!
Hi Biffa have you considered about making a pedestrian island? Maybe you could keep the road straight out from the tunnel to the parking for access reasons and the one to the football stadium and the big parking building and then making the rest as a pedestrian area with a lot of plazas for tourism and leisure. I think it could be really cool

Love it! Worst about you playing vanilla is there’s no trees on the röd! 😍 (röd means red in Swedish) Aaaaanyway… I don’t know if it’s possible, but in real life I think this area would have a pedestrian tunnel from the parking garage to the stadium at least and maybe even a whole underground pedestrian system connecting everything together. Easy accessibility! Missing the mod-maps :( not a big fan watching vanilla gameplay, but I would NEVER miss out a video from Biffa anyways. ❤️❤️
Ilse of Roy!.. loving what you've done to the island so far can't wait to see the the next sections evolve but it's looking like it'll be the go to island beach entertainment resort to bring the masses to hugoslavia!
I think you could add the leisure commercial district next to the ferries on the mainland. On the island you can try adding the tourism and leisure commercial districts!
I think there is a risk that you will have a problem with traffic around the bus/ferry terminal. I would use a different ferry stop and the smaller inter city bus terminal.
It’s 100% possible to get realistic peers, you just have to properly landscape (sometimes the land and sea levels). I think the biggest tell that Biffa isn’t a vanilla player is the fact that pre-grading/landscape adjustment never occurs to him. It’s always post-adjustments or responding to problems as he’s so used to being to just fix anomalies with Move It. As a console player a good 1/4 of my time is spent considering & adjusting land BEFORE any building to ensure I’m able to do what I want to do. Or indeed in some cases, replan altogether to respect my typography.
This is why I don't use canals. I dig a trench, lower the banks, then add a quay. I would've ran the ferries around the island, as opposed to through it.
In regards of the canals look at your country's neigbor The Netherlands. The math is easy for vanilla game go below or in this case towards sea level with the terrain. as a Dutchman I have to say you can't leave it like it is, it's horror🙈( as a tip just use move it to do it you can remove the mod when your done)
Would have voted for #1 because it's the most useful out of the three, but already knew that #2 was gonna win. At least now your squares are arranged in a very strong shape. Also, I think it technically would be possible to bring things down to a decent level on the island, but you're not gonna like my "solution": Delete literally everything on the entire island and then lower the whole island down.
It is possible to reach that height in vanilla, but you need to lower the ground prior to building the canal (one meter above the sea level ... good luck with that)
I love chilling with Biffa's videos and planning my city on the other monitor 😁 -Update on my first city ( started on the same map; currently at 3000 population and 8 hours of detailing which will get destroyed by a highway to allow for high rise 😅 ) When will you be streaming next time Good Sir ? 🤔 Don't wanna miss it next time...🤗
Maybe a freshwater outlet could raise the water level in the canals, especially when playing around with the depth variations but that may not be worth the effort.
Biffa, How about the Isle of Roy-say? There is an island in Scotland called Rousay, which originally comes from an old Norse name meaning "Rolf's Island", so this would mean "Roy's Island"... 😊
As a tourism island you probably could have made it car free entirely. You can probably use a pedestrian zone with it's distribution centers to supply the goods.
I actually thought to do something like this along the side of a river but with quays and terraforming. With mods like move it, it can look really nice in a highly artificial way as you can line it all up and perfectly level off the land. I mostly did it just for the aesthetic, but it has the interesting effect of raising the land worth deep inside your urban area
BIFFA made a rock wall with the line tool. I would like it if we could mark that wall as having historical significance, and prevent removing it in the future.
Yes it is possible to get the ferry close to perfect but you have to make a pad about 1 or 2 contour lines only just above the sea level. The land is just to high. You would need to do a lot of terraforming to bring the land high down to make ferries and fishing boats look more natural
I know it's tedious in Vanilla but you really should buldoze all the trees that are gonna be overwritten by buildings or roads you add. The map still register the trees as there and so takes room in the memory for nothing. So unless you are building a foresting industry, you better destroy all unnecessary trees. (so much easier with moveit though) You should have lowered the terrain of the entire island before building the shallow canals. The reason why they kept drying up is that they go up with the terrain because it is too high. That would also sove the tunnels building problem.
You should have lowered the island so that everything fit closer to the water, I understand working with topography but it doesn't help making a canal through a mountain 😂 great landscaping and everything else though!
Could go simple for fhe name, call it Roysey. Use the -ey ending that is common for islands in Britain and the nordic countries. Plus it kinda sounds like Rosey, which is fun.
Roy-al Resort could be a name for the island, as it is pretty tourism based

I know it isn't Roy related, but I think a great name for the island would be No Problem Atoll
No Problems Ray-toll?
The Aquarium right next to the fish market made me giggle
It’s 100% possible to get realistic peers, you just have to properly landscape (sometimes the land and sea levels).
I think the biggest tell that Biffa isn’t a vanilla player is the fact that pre-grading/landscape adjustment never occurs to him. It’s always post-adjustments or responding to problems as he’s so used to being to just fix anomalies with Move It.
As a console player a good 1/4 of my time is spent considering & adjusting land BEFORE any building to ensure I’m able to do what I want to do. Or indeed in some cases, replan altogether to respect my typography.
The ferry passengers clambering up the poles at the end of the video is just hilarious. 😂
Very nice island you are starting to build! I like it. But don't forget about some services.
23:07 call that hotel Niff Tea Hotel
This is why I don't use canals. I dig a trench, lower the banks, then add a quay. I would've ran the ferries around the island, as opposed to through it.
It's always funny watching massive objects jump around as they snap to different roads as you look around for a place for them 😂😂
Roy-bos Island? Tea related :)
Love it!
Having just found your channel this week, I want you to know that Smoothification, Finagle and Smoothify are now words i use on a daily basis
You should make square no. 1 a faming industry and try and keep the natural tree line. luv ya stuff. love from Greece
You forgot that you have a trolly bus street to the ferry stop. That could be an extra mode of transportation besides the bus line. 6:38
It is possible to reach that height in vanilla, but you need to lower the ground prior to building the canal (one meter above the sea level ... good luck with that)
Maybe you could name the tourist islands The Royer Islands?
Play on Sawyer Island...
I love chilling with Biffa's videos and planning my city on the other monitor 😁
-Update on my first city ( started on the same map; currently at 3000 population and 8 hours of detailing which will get destroyed by a highway to allow for high rise 😅 )
When will you be streaming next time Good Sir ? 🤔 Don't wanna miss it next time...🤗
Royland is clearly the best name for the new district :P
You could call it Island Roy after an island situated near the Republic of Ireland near the UK. Love the vids ❤
Maybe a freshwater outlet could raise the water level in the canals, especially when playing around with the depth variations but that may not be worth the effort.
Happy Canada Day to all you Canadians watching 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
The aquarium next to the fish market is hilarious!😂😂😂 a happy accident
Watching people climb the pilings of the ferry dock is hilarious! 🤣
Biffa,
How about the Isle of Roy-say?
"The beaches are huge, there's so many beaches around here, were not going to be running out of beaches anytime soon" ~ Biffa 2023
I think keeping it simple as the Isle of Roy would be a good name
BIFFA made a rock wall with the line tool.
I would like it if we could mark that wall as having historical significance, and prevent removing it in the future.
Yes it is possible to get the ferry close to perfect but you have to make a pad about 1 or 2 contour lines only just above the sea level. The land is just to high. You would need to do a lot of terraforming to bring the land high down to make ferries and fishing boats look more natural
Move it!, it's the easiest way to fix the canels, if not! redo... I used move it to do it! love the series!
looks great what you done on the island but i will say for tourist i would say a theme park would be cool on there to be cool
I know it's tedious in Vanilla but you really should buldoze all the trees that are gonna be overwritten by buildings or roads you add. The map still register the trees as there and so takes room in the memory for nothing. So unless you are building a foresting industry, you better destroy all unnecessary trees. (so much easier with moveit though)
You should have lowered the terrain of the entire island before building the shallow canals.
Biffa:
Builds ferry terminal
Extends trolley bus roads to ferry terminal
Builds bio-fuel bus depot
Doesn't use trolley busses
Me: confused?
I know you're going to change it, but the island simply being called Roy is hilarious to me.
Could go simple for fhe name, call it Roysey. Use the -ey ending that is common for islands in Britain and the nordic countries. Plus it kinda sounds like Rosey, which is fun.
Reckon you should call it.. LanzaRoyTea. A prime holiday destination for all.
