Roy-al Resort could be a name for the island, as it is pretty tourism based
Maybe even Roy-al-tea Resort, for the extra Tea in there
@@MajorTanyaYeah, that's a good idea!
Or Roy-land but i like Roy-al
I was gonna go for The Roy-al Archipelago but Roy-al Resort does roll off the tongue better
Roy Isle Resort, a pun that keeps the fact that it's an island, but also like Roy-al.
One of the only ways to fix your canels is to lower and terraform the entire island before you do anything. Make the entire island nice, low and flat. Might be worth it.
yeah, from the very start when he put in the canals you could tell that desperately needed terraforming down to beach level before putting anything in there, it was doomed from the start, no canal inside a city should be using anything but the minimum depth for wall height.
Would be better off just deleting the canals and running the ferry around the island. Would add more room inside the island as well.
Yeah and all the land will be flat for all the stadium and other unique building and the beaches will also look less steep and more realistic
Agreed. Full marks!
or you put a water source in the canals
The problem with your canals is that the water will remain at sea level. You have three options: You can lower the terrain by the canals, raise the water level (I'm sure there is a lock asset that will allow that), or pretend the passengers at the ferry terminals are using a lift or stairs.
Or parachute 👍😁👍
Honestly with how many issue he's had I think the best option would be to lower the terrain of the whole island to mostly flatten it lol
Or Fire pole!! Weeeee!!!
You could call it “Port Roy” - The island could’ve been a small port town before being converted over time to its now tourist style island. You could add some older historical buildings and maybe some piers and harbours to give it an old school port feel just on one corner of the island!
Or even Port Roy-al, very historical.
Reminded me Fort Joy from DOS2.
Loved just watching the people in the montage at the end getting off the ferry and shimmying up the poles on the pier!! That's a Krypton Factor challenge for them right there! 🤣
🤣
That canal has a water problem because it slopes up from the ocean level. It takes some work to get it to make them from below ocen level, but it would fix that problem
Yeah, the water is ONLY coming from sea level.
Maybe if he had a bunch of sewage outlets in the middle of the shallowest canal, that could bring the water level up?
@@PerfectAlibi1 Or an excess water outlet even. You get clean water that way not sewage.
@@mrhedgebull1658
Oh, I thought all outlets were sewage XD
Or he could add a water outlet (used for making waterfalls, lakes etc) to produce water in those canals.
However, your statement is absolutely correct. "The slope to steep" is this issue as the land is too high. He should slope the land down to at least be "sea level" or deeper.
I'm with Biffa though. I think canals are cool but they can be so frustrating to get just right and not flood everything. lol This is why I may have tried adding a water outlet that you can ... More or less control that level and have less flooding. Hopefully. :D
EDIT: @mrhedgebull1658 I totally missed your comment. This was the same thought I had.
Cheers! LLP COYS
@@PerfectAlibi1no you can get excess water outlets with the natural disaster dlc
Definitely needed to lower the island closer to sea level before building
What’s the best way to remediate the flood risk of terrain so close to sea level?
@Dbeezt you have to still keep it above sea level but make sure your beaches are the lowest points on the island and that your canals are deepest in the middle of the island and shallow on the outsides. Also when you are shifting terrain near water, don't pause time or at least don't resume time at the fastest day speed; the day speed actually affects the water physics for some reason
Roykjavik 🤣 i feel like a park area running next to the canal with some pedestrian bridges over would be a nice feature.
Yes! Brilliant! Would it perhaps go better with Hugoslavia when it's written like this: Roykjavic?
I think it's fine to imagine the ferry passengers getting on an elevator ride that takes them up to the dock, if you don't want to completely change the island, since it looks very cool and unique.
The most funny part for me is that you said, you want to make a pedestrianized island and sin fact made the opposite :D
Even though I have the P&P DLC, I haven't used it yet. I'm not sure how the service points work if there is no road to the island?
You can replace the underwater road (tunnel if you prefer) with a bus-only road, this will allow emergency vehicles and stop the traffic - I am unsure about this includes or excludes service vehicles
Love two things here:
1. I think it's understated, but you're really good at using *gasp* grids, and making believable neighborhoods. This is just one perfect example. I love how use it as a skeleton, and then change it up. Can't wait to see what you do with the rest.
2. It seems silly to say, but yet another great use of transit. I was thinking, early on, "oh dear, need a different/bigger road to connect the island" and yet you did your thing and ended at 95%. Yet again, I learn. :)
👍😁
RCE shaking with the strongest tile selection
Did you watch a couple of episodes ago when Biffa made a strong shape?
The island looks great, especially in that glamour shot! For its name, I was thinking the Isle of Roy.
I was thinking the same thing.
Thanks for naming the Island after me! Very proud to support you! As a US Navy vet and someone who grew up in Carmel-by-the-Sea, I love the oceanfront and anything to do with boats, ships, and shoreline in general. This is perfect!
You're welcome and thankyou for your support 👍😁
Aha Breakfast with Biffa checks clock 7:42 am So my dear Biffa the thing that struck me was at 3:06 of your video I had to stop as Saturdays mornings are chaos especially when you have 3 little mini Typhoons rushing around and trying to give the dog a makeover (yes little insight to family life with 3 little snappers with pony tails) anyways I noticed the bottom part of the island looks like the underside of a H. I would of personally shaped the top of the island accordingly making it the Island of Hugo by name and by shape. you’ve probably done something spectacular and I’ll try and watch the rest at A later time and give you my thoughts …. Until then I’m off to be super dad and the human climbing frame all in one good luck with the build
I think the whole island needs to be lowered before building on it unfortunately. Water heights always make my teeth itch in this game with how inaccurate they are. Fingers crossed CS2 has a solution to this. P.S. A sneaky Move It mod fix would not bother me here at all so you don't have to completely redo the island by hand.
I agree, use move it to fix the height rather than redoing all of it, it was an honest mistake, no need to complitate it..
1:36 The funniest thing about it is: Now that you placed the quay wall on the water side, the road shouldn't/needn't even dip down! Before, it ran along the height of the coast line, but now it needlessly cuts into the otherwise flat land ^ ^
Let's upgrade the road to the ferry to trolley bus one - and let's totally ignore it and run a bus service there - Biffa the gold fish🤣
Also when there is a slope too steep for a road to be build, there are landscaping tools, who works under water as well 😄
Could you make just an episode dedicated to teaching your traffic techniques that you'll consistently use, like Highway Mathmatics and such? I think that it would be much better then the hours of content you've made spreading it over? I would defiantly find it highly useful. Thank you for all your content and I hope 2 is great
I mean, I’m pretty sure he has done that…Like multiple times
@@kgapaneseschoolgirlb and how on earth to set up your own timed traffic lights... I feel like I've watched so many videos and I still don't understand!
@@elsbethbeard7351 Then just look up “Timed traffic lights” Biffa has done all this before.
For the ferries on the island you can't rely on the ocean to fully fill them, usually I run a pond somewhere that is connected to the canals or part of the system then have some water outlets (not the sewage ones) underneath the pond, run a separate water system with pumps somewhere and have the water outflow of that pond fill the canals for the ferries.
Hi Biffa have you considered about making a pedestrian island? Maybe you could keep the road straight out from the tunnel to the parking for access reasons and the one to the football stadium and the big parking building and then making the rest as a pedestrian area with a lot of plazas for tourism and leisure.
I think it could be really cool
Maybe a freshwater outlet could raise the water level in the canals, especially when playing around with the depth variations but that may not be worth the effort.
My dear Biffa it’s a a-solute joy watching you having to relearn how to play skylines again with out mods. What makes this so relatable and such a joy is it’s mirroring my current let’s play where I’m using no mods or DLC which is even harder. And I can instantly detect the frustration in your voice whilst trying to remain calm in front of the viewers and all the little micro frustrations eg 19:02 “it is fun” It’s great seeing you do exactly what I do when I need time out to think about how to do it and not to make my viewers bored, by skipping forward and explains to do it off camera.. It’s really tough having to keep calm and hide the internal panic knowing you have an audience- not sure why we do this to ourselves.
On the canals I struggled making canals only started using them for the fist time this year after flooding my city I’ve come up with elaborate designs and have really thrown my mind into nuclear meltdown with over reaching. What I discovers with canals is I made them all deep and I lowered the land to nearly sea level and raising the land a little on the coast line to allowing the canals to be fully filled with water, you can find my techniques In my Most ambitious build videos. On the ferry stops trying to get them to the correct level for passengers in fact all marina boat related builds it just a case of terra forming and lowering things as close to sea level as possible like you kinda did with the ferry stop on the beach. With the ferry stops on canals my only advice is do what I’d did with filling the canals up with as much water as possible. I do not have any ferry’s available in my let’s play due to having no DLC. There is another trick I can show you with bringing some of the river assets like the fishing island closer to the coast so other than that I can’t help just yet anyways gd luck and I totally share your frustrations and it is indeed fun
There is something absolutely joyful about watching you detail an area. The flyover Roy island at the end almost made me forget I was looking at a game, it was so lovingly choreographed (the Ultra-tall pier took me out of it a bit, but what can you do?). I can't wait to see all the new toys you get to play with in CS2
Na the tunnel that starts at the beach has to go. Make the area pedestrian only to receive goods. Basically make it self sufficient. That tunnel doesn't seem plausible at all
The tunnel starting so close to the water line would never happen. That whole idea starts to spaghettify your city which makes it look haphazard and thoughtless. Sorry if that sounds harsh.
In Michigan we have a tourist destination called Mackinaw Island, no cars only horse carriages and bikes. Colonial forts and grand hotels. It’s fun to recreate!
23:07 call that hotel Niff Tea Hotel
I think there is a risk that you will have a problem with traffic around the bus/ferry terminal. I would use a different ferry stop and the smaller inter city bus terminal.
Hi,
I think the idea of intercity bus stations is to put them on the outskirts of the city so that the intercity busses wouldn't have to go through all the inner-city traffic, and have the city-busses handle that.
Instead, not only did you place the intercity bus terminal so that the intercity busses would have to cross the entire city to get there, you put it on beachfront property. Who does something like that?
The tourist island looks fabulous. I think a marina would make it even better.
Biffa - The trick in working with canals is that you must first terraform the land into a valley and have that land just slightly higher than the waterline. Once you do that you can easily place it now and it will look better overall with the map.
Because remember canals are artificial rivers.
I second this! Take out the canals, just some valleys down to nearly sea level, and put them back in. The water will always be the same height as sea level but the valleys will save you having to terraform your whole island!
It’s 100% possible to get realistic peers, you just have to properly landscape (sometimes the land and sea levels).
I think the biggest tell that Biffa isn’t a vanilla player is the fact that pre-grading/landscape adjustment never occurs to him. It’s always post-adjustments or responding to problems as he’s so used to being to just fix anomalies with Move It.
As a console player a good 1/4 of my time is spent considering & adjusting land BEFORE any building to ensure I’m able to do what I want to do. Or indeed in some cases, replan altogether to respect my typography.
"Hope they're not gonna loose too many balls in the sea", now that's a ballsy statement.
The aquarium next door to the fish market? Well, someone might have an exotic dinner every now and then, it seems... 🤣
gota love the cims climing the 'pole' of the ferry stop :)
Some good names for the island already. As another possible name; Isle of Roy.
Yes it is possible to get the ferry close to perfect but you have to make a pad about 1 or 2 contour lines only just above the sea level. The land is just to high. You would need to do a lot of terraforming to bring the land high down to make ferries and fishing boats look more natural
If you know a bit of french you can named this Island : "L'Isle du Roy", King's island. Because, Roy in ancient french means King. (Now we spell it Roi) Try to prounonced it correctly and it will be good. Yep ! "L'isle du Roy." great name !!
In regards of the canals look at your country's neigbor The Netherlands. The math is easy for vanilla game go below or in this case towards sea level with the terrain. as a Dutchman I have to say you can't leave it like it is, it's horror🙈( as a tip just use move it to do it you can remove the mod when your done)
This is why I don't use canals. I dig a trench, lower the banks, then add a quay. I would've ran the ferries around the island, as opposed to through it.
I think you could add the leisure commercial district next to the ferries on the mainland. On the island you can try adding the tourism and leisure commercial districts!
37:48 This must be where all the firemen practice their pole slides... to get onto the ferries xD
Once again New Tealand seems to have died an unceremonious death. I would have loved for you to finish it or just tell us it’s dead.
Could call it Roy's Royce. He has spent quite a bit on this channel after all!
You could have put a toll road in front of the tunnel as that would actually be quite realistic.
It is possible to reach that height in vanilla, but you need to lower the ground prior to building the canal (one meter above the sea level ... good luck with that)
9:08
Three different quadrants. Don't ever change Biffa. 😄
No word for one third of a circle though to be fair. It would just be "sector"
Oh, that fishing industry.
Welcome to Roy. Hope you like shellfish!
I know it's tedious in Vanilla but you really should buldoze all the trees that are gonna be overwritten by buildings or roads you add. The map still register the trees as there and so takes room in the memory for nothing. So unless you are building a foresting industry, you better destroy all unnecessary trees. (so much easier with moveit though)
You should have lowered the terrain of the entire island before building the shallow canals. The reason why they kept drying up is that they go up with the terrain because it is too high.
That would also sove the tunnels building problem.
Could go simple for fhe name, call it Roysey. Use the -ey ending that is common for islands in Britain and the nordic countries. Plus it kinda sounds like Rosey, which is fun.
Love the fish market right next door to the aquarium; you can watch all the exotic fishes swimming about, and then walk on over and order them for dinner! ;-)
Maybe your Soccer/Football team on the Island could be called the ROYal Islanders after the patreon member.
The Roy Isle Royale! Hotel and holiday destination extraordinaire!
I'd love a second channel or some sort of seperate playlist for full length videos without timelapses of decorating or cuts of you fideling around!
The ferry passengers clambering up the poles at the end of the video is just hilarious. 😂
"Let me put this deeper canal on the exit so the water can get in!" Biffa 2023
Don't worry Biffa, I am sure CS2 will have better water physics. They will be so GOOD we'll even be able to actually build a dam!
Love it! Worst about you playing vanilla is there’s no trees on the röd! 😍 (röd means red in Swedish)
Aaaaanyway… I don’t know if it’s possible, but in real life I think this area would have a pedestrian tunnel from the parking garage to the stadium at least and maybe even a whole underground pedestrian system connecting everything together.
Easy accessibility!
Missing the mod-maps :( not a big fan watching vanilla gameplay, but I would NEVER miss out a video from Biffa anyways. ❤️❤️
Put the long thermal electric power next to the aquarium and use it like a filtration system 25:01
i’m not sure you’ll see this but could we get a quick tour of hugoslavia in your next video to see everything that’s been done so far? Been watching its creation these last few eps and would love to see a short sweep of the city with your narration!
👍
Would have voted for #1 because it's the most useful out of the three, but already knew that #2 was gonna win. At least now your squares are arranged in a very strong shape.
Also, I think it technically would be possible to bring things down to a decent level on the island, but you're not gonna like my "solution": Delete literally everything on the entire island and then lower the whole island down.
The island is such a cool build, looks great.
As a tourism island you probably could have made it car free entirely. You can probably use a pedestrian zone with it's distribution centers to supply the goods.
BIFFA made a rock wall with the line tool.
I would like it if we could mark that wall as having historical significance, and prevent removing it in the future.
An aquarium just right next to the fish market, that's funny 😅
Eat or watch 🤣
They had that at Disney World. A seafood restaurant right next to the The Living Seas exhibit in Epcot.
I know it isn't Roy related, but I think a great name for the island would be No Problem Atoll
No Problems Ray-toll?
I think if you could raise the water level by increasing flow you could get the ferry to a reasonable place. It's been so long since I played vanilla. I'm not sure how you would go about that, though, but I would say raise the water rather than lower the canal your island needs a London Eye Wheek out there l, think it woukd look cool out there
You should have lowered the island so that everything fit closer to the water, I understand working with topography but it doesn't help making a canal through a mountain 😂 great landscaping and everything else though!
I love chilling with Biffa's videos and planning my city on the other monitor 😁
-Update on my first city ( started on the same map; currently at 3000 population and 8 hours of detailing which will get destroyed by a highway to allow for high rise 😅 )
When will you be streaming next time Good Sir ? 🤔 Don't wanna miss it next time...🤗
I actually thought to do something like this along the side of a river but with quays and terraforming. With mods like move it, it can look really nice in a highly artificial way as you can line it all up and perfectly level off the land. I mostly did it just for the aesthetic, but it has the interesting effect of raising the land worth deep inside your urban area
The Aquarium right next to the fish market made me giggle
@33:00 demolishing history?!?! That was the home of Blackbeard!!! 😅
I think keeping it simple as the Isle of Roy would be a good name
To avoid all the annoying problems with the tunnel you could change it to a bridge (one from the ccp)
Maybe build an artificial island in between the tourist island and the mainland too so the bridge length doesn't seem so insane.
The Island looks great, like a Port Royal 🙃. I think a toll booth at the land-side entrance of the tunnel would make a lot of sense.
You forgot that you have a trolly bus street to the ferry stop. That could be an extra mode of transportation besides the bus line. 6:38
change the tunnel to ban cars and only allow trucks and service vehicles. Force people to use the ferry and also add in pedestrian zones
The aquarium next to the fish market is hilarious!😂😂😂 a happy accident
Watching people climb the pilings of the ferry dock is hilarious! 🤣
Reckon you should call it.. LanzaRoyTea. A prime holiday destination for all.
Instead of doing an underground tunnel to connect the services, why not do a long bridge instead? You can refer Penang Bridge in Malaysia as a reference. It might also look nice at night by the beachfront view😄
37:40 Only way I know of in vanilla is to tear down everything and lower the land. You've basically built a canal through a rise in the terrain.
And while doing that you need somewhere to dump all the soil you dig out and probably end up making a 2nd island, or maybe a small mountain.
Or just use a taller ferry
@@DonGorgen You could send the world's largest cruise ship down that canal, and people would still be jumping down to get on board...
@@simongeard4824 But atleast it's gonna look a little less weird than usin the smallest boat in the game
Having just found your channel this week, I want you to know that Smoothification, Finagle and Smoothify are now words i use on a daily basis
"The beaches are huge, there's so many beaches around here, were not going to be running out of beaches anytime soon" ~ Biffa 2023
Biffa,
How about the Isle of Roy-say?
There is an island in Scotland called Rousay, which originally comes from an old Norse name meaning "Rolf's Island", so this would mean "Roy's Island"... 😊
It's always funny watching massive objects jump around as they snap to different roads as you look around for a place for them 😂😂
With the stadion as an eye on the island I suggest Anne of the face-line island as "eye-ball-island" (because of Fottball and eye of the face and its an island). Good grief, this makes me more exited as it doesn't need to.
Maybe you could name the tourist islands The Royer Islands?
Play on Sawyer Island...
The trolley bus roads need to have ped. cars and cargo banned to not have backups.
Biffa:
Builds ferry terminal
Extends trolley bus roads to ferry terminal
Builds bio-fuel bus depot
Doesn't use trolley busses
Me: confused?
"You guys wanna go play tennis?"
"They have a tennis court here?"
"Yeah! Over between the fish market and the fishery. Once you've played a few volleys you don't even notice the smell anymore."
😂😀👍
CS2 needs water pumps made for filling canals efficiently like you can in reality if they add canals later.
Isle of Roy, (like Isle of man or isle of white) or Roy-biza (ibiza (which is an island resort))
An idea, do a live stream and really give that place a tidy up when done with the main attractions. Remove all those pesky trees for palms, and lower that ferry stop. Lol..grass in road *cough.
But that's just an opinion, looks great!! Thanks for the video!.
"The Isle of Roy"
Gorgeous! Love your creativity, especially when things don’t turn out exactly to plan.
I think you might have enough height to drop the bridges ovet the canal to flat. Also you could have started the tunnel from deeper inland the island. That way you would have more space to slope below the sea.
looks great what you done on the island but i will say for tourist i would say a theme park would be cool on there to be cool
You should make square no. 1 a faming industry and try and keep the natural tree line. luv ya stuff. love from Greece
Maybe one of those colossus statues facing out to the ocean. Call is the Colossus of Roy.
