The Acid Look on Fortnite isn't caused by the laptop, rather it's the Windows 10 Fullscreen issue. You have to go to the Fortnite game files and change the properties of the launcher to disable fullscreen optimization. You're welcome.

Austin dude... I bought my Envy X360 13 with Ryzen 5 a few days ago. I'm not sure why your's was having issues with running games for a long time. I've been playing Fortnite, CS:GO, LOL and a few other games. granted the FPS isn't super great if you run anything over medium, you have a point by saying it is not a gaming machine. I didn't buy it to game to be honest, I do have a desktop for that. but this laptop has been so amazing in every regard so far. I've been editing photos, doing some coding (for Uni projects) and I especially love the touch input for the possibility of taking notes in class and also more precise color grading on photos and video. THANK YOU for testing your laptop with a USB-C charger, I will stay far away from using that in the future, however if you do figure it out, it could be cool to see if you can charge the laptop with an external power bank. on the thermal side, I've not seen too many issues like I've said.... maybe the Ryzen 7 is just not the right APU for this form factor.

Austin kinda killed it at the end. The wattage or amperage doesn't kill a laptop. Just the voltage. The amperage just says what's the power supply's limit on a specific voltage and Wattage is determined by multiplying Amperage and Voltage. So what killed that laptop is the voltage (not the other two) or something else, if one of the circuit protection failed.

    • @cannoliburger9858
      @cannoliburger9858 5 лет назад +1

I was hoping someone mentioned that fact, Cosmin's comment needs to be higher up. People too often incorrectly state that a power supply with a higher amperage or wattage rating will fry something, but that is just the amount that a power supply can provide. Using a 95 watt adapter on a laptop that came with a 65 watt will not damage the computer as long as you match the voltage and connector type. It may work for a bit with too low wattage power supply, but eventually the power supply or computer will fail.

Just brought the Ryzen 5 version in the UK for £749 and a £100 gift card to spend in the best buy equivalent (Currys PC World) - from initial use - I'm in love. The big issue is it only has a 128GB SSD but all of my files tend to be via Google Drive so I'm less concerned about it. It''s snappy. The screen is gorgeous and the keyboard is enjoyable to use.

Because for most people it doesn't get that hot, because they're not constantly pushing the laptop to it's limits, So most people usually great experiences with thin and lights, because you can take them anywhere, and they're fast enough for stuff the average user would use. If you're not the average user, thin and light, shouldn't be your main priority, because it's gonna get really hot, but if that's all you can afford, well you're out of luck.

I believe the new MSI GS series dooes't thermal throttle as well or at least not much, but those are gaming laptops and still thicker than the envy line. But yah I totally agree if there was some sort of technology advancement to replace current solutions. I'm not an engineer so I wouldn't have a clue what to improve.

Few people know that all HP Envy systems, Ultrabook, Notebook and desktops, can be custom built. My 13” Ultra is one. I have a model from last year but the features still are up to date. A 4K touch screen, i7 -7500 dual core, 16 Gb DDR 4 RAM, 1 TB SSD, Three USB 3 and 1USB C Ports, a SD card , full HDM and a headphone port. The keyboard is one of the best I’ve ever used and backlighting, B&O speakers. You mentioned keeping drivers up to date. Every HP I have owned comes with some kind of program that ones in the background which notifies you about availability of new drivers as well as information about your system. My Envy came with Windows 10 Pro and Microsoft’s Office Pro. You might have to search around to find where you can place an order for a custom built but I believe Costco once in awhile has them. That system cost me $1295.00 and it included a full 4 year HP warranty. The only drawback was I had to wait almost a month for the build and delivery. Go to the HP store and price a new one with similar features and see how much can be saved.

The control center software lets you choose an operating mode for the PC, like "cool & quiet", "max performance", etc. The default is "balanced" even without the software installed, "max performance" sets a more aggressive fan curve, higher thermal limit, and I think higher power budget as well. High perf mode disables when the laptop is unplugged tho.
Also, the Windows performance & power settings are separate. I think teh HP control software operates kind of like ryzen master in this regard.
As for the benchmarks, I'd have to find it again. Dug it up on a reddit thread a couple weeks back

You probably have a 15" model with better cooling solution. Ryzen 7 in this laptop needs about 25W of cooling capability to run at full potential. Judging by size of cooler in this laptop it probably wont be able to dissipate more than 10W. Because of horrible engineering otherwise decent hardware are going to be wasted.

@@olbrzym11 that's why I said the ryzen 5 would be better suited. My point was more of a judgement on reliability and build quality. I personally dont think any laptop this size should be using these insane performance oriented parts. You pay extra for something that kills the battery, burns your legs, and throttles performance. A core i7 or Ryzen 7 should be out of the question.

I am sending my HP Envy in to the HP repair center for the second time due to thermal issues. The gentleman on the phone at HP support told me that it is very uncommon for the Envy to have thermal issues (maybe occurs with only 3 or 4 out of every 100 computers). He said that thermal issues indicate a problem with the software or hardware and have nothing to do with what the computer was built for. The only software on my computer is Quickbooks, Mavis Beacon, and Microsoft Office Outlook. I was also told that the Envy is one of the more "premium" laptops that HP offers and that these thermal issues are rare.

Went through 3 Replacements in 1 month, now in the process of a refund.
+First - Had several deadpixel on arrival. Returned the next couple days for a replacement.
+Second - Was okay, untill 2hours after arrival, the LCD adhesive started to separate near the bottom left corner to midway when tilting the screen. Returned the next day for another replacement.
+Third - Thought this was the one, but no... Trackpad was lifting from one corner and other side of trackpad was stuck. Insanely loud fan, like a hair dryer. Updated bios, tried HP Coolsense bs and so on but nothing works. Previous two laptop did not exhibit this issue. Yes i know this is a small-form factor laptop, but even at idle the fan kicked in 100% with temperature reaching to 55-65 degrees at 20-30% load and previous two laptop did not exhibit this issue. Now in the process of just getting a refund and moving elsewhere before the return policy expires...
The first two seemed to come from the same batch (checking the serial number) where the third one came from a different batch. HP seriously has some quality issues with the ryzen line-up or in general with the envy line up. Performance it self was good to an extent...The main issue is AMD drivers with lack of support and update - easier to search this up rather than me explaining it. I'm not hating AMD, i rock a Ryzen 1700 on my main desktop and absolutely love it. But this laptop was enough to drive me crazy. Looks beautiful and slim, affordable but deceiving. HP support was friendly enough for the replacement and refund, but all 3 laptops had issues on ARRIVAL, give a couple of months who knows what other issue could have popped up and if they would have honoured their warranty. Theres alot of online thread complaining with similar or even worser situations and there's also HP and several other company binning the Ryzen chip from 15W to 12W and then thermal throttling. Just a shame that this could have been one of the best budget laptop but plagued with poor design, a single driver update and quality issues...

Maybe you should want a slightly thicker laptop. I hate these manufacturers that keep trying to get as thin as possible. If it was half an inch thicker and if they could increase the heat sink by a similar amount, it would only be marginally heavier but would be able to stay cool and work well.

A ryzen 3 sounds legit for school and work. If you need that much power for more demanding tasks like gaming or video editing, get a dang desktop. Laptops won't give you adequate performance and overheat all day, especially as manufacturers go thinner and thinner. I would be cool with a thicker laptop like those old cheaper laptops if they dedicated to a full metal chassis and potentially double the heatsink material. I aint worried about an extra 2 lbs. If you can't lift that than go to the gym lol.

@@alexsyld5410 If you could wait for a couple months or so you could buy a laptop with the next gen ryzen 7/mx version. You know?
If you urgently need it, I guess you could go for the Ryzen laptop if you need more battery life. dGPU is gonna drain more battery and also will heat up more.
If you really want to game, it's better to go for something with a 1050Ti or 1060.
Asus X570ZD (Ryzen 7 2700U / GTX1050) is probably the only option if you want amd + Nvidia.
There should be plenty of options if you want amd ryzen + amd radeon gpu. Acer nitro has an option with Ryzen 7 and RX 560. It's better than MX 150.
But my recommendation is to wait since we're rather close to release of the next generation processors.
Next gen Ryzen with Zen 2 would definitely be much faster, the gpu would be much faster than MX 150 as well. If you buy it now and the upgrade comes in a couple of months, it would leave a bitter taste... It probably won't be as bitter as people who bought kabylake though 😂

First laptop i bought: 13 2300 or something, great machine, 2 cores/4 threads, 6gb of ddr3 ram, 500gb hdd and integrated graphics. Super comfy to use and could play dead island, minecraft, left for dead, payday, tomb raider and so on (i was used to 15 fps at the time, the price was just too good), it was a samsung one and the thermals were exceptional.
Second experience: HP with amd a10 3,1ghz with integrated 8000-something and other integrated 2gb card, 8gb of ram and 1tb hybrid hdd. Could run most games including Fallout 4 at kinda high settings at 720p, but the thermals, i could burn my hands playing with the keyboard, had to buy an external one and it was SO LOUD i could hear it through my headphones. That experience took me away from HP/AMD at the time. I moved to an i5 7600k, 16gb of ddr4 2400mHz ram, 128gb of ssd, 2 tb of hdd and a 1060 6gb that is quiet and can run EVERYTHING at 1080p high/epic. I'd only buy samsung or lg laptops, never going back to hp.
