The whole section at the end to do with 'Escape' is honestly really good to hear. Hearing this stuff usually reserved for insiders and being shared is seriously refreshing and makes this podcast really unique! Cheers Will!
How are we barely learning of you being a writer on Escape?! That’s awesome!🤯 Happy for you Will. I already knew you were a humble guy, but hearing this just sends it. Congrats to both of you and all of you for the success that record has had. Only makes me curious to hear the Will Clarke version!!👀 bet it jams😎 Another great episode! And yes, still can’t believe there’s still SO much misguided assumptions of the origins of techno and more grandly, electronic-music scene history! We need to educate as well as bind the electronic music scene even better🙌🏼
This was a phenomenal interview. Kaskade is such a legend and getting to hear more from him in long form conversations is something as a fan I wish we could get more of! Hopefully you can get him back on soon and chat more with him. Love hearing his perspective.
only 3900 views?!?! another amazing episode!! Its crazy to see how Armin and Kaskade talk in paralel... covid both kind of at the right time for everyone before they truly burnt out.
Great podcast! At the end of the day - if the music is good, it will resonate with people, doesn't matter the genre, the country you're in, the geographic area. We need to focus on making fresh music.
This podcast was so good!! I especially liked how you revealed how Escape was yours originally and Ryans' reaction to it 😅 There was more info in there than any other Kaskade interview I've ever seen. I've been a fan of his since 2012. Now I'm a fan of yours! You did a great job with the questions! I also like how you both discussed covid and how it affected you both. I got sober and found God in the last 4 years, beginning with covid. I liked how you talked about not holding resentments because the song is out there and that is all that matters. And, Kaskade has a massive audience. Thank you both!! Btw, I'm from the Detroit area and I just made a church testimonial about my sobriety and faith and I don't have a big platform. About 200 people so far. But, if you know of ways I can get it out there better, I'd appreciate any words of wisdom. I'll send you the link as well, if you'd be interested. Have a great day!
Wille Clarke, when you spilled the TEA about Escape you had my mouth on the floor!!! I'm still holding onto my pearl necklace. Kudos to you for bringing it up while keeping the conversation productive. Wild how the record company did that to you. Also, incredibly proud that you were able to bring on Kaskade AND keep him around for an hour+ interview! The topics covered were super unique and arguably one of the most interesting interview with Kaskade because the questions were so targeted. If Kaskade comes back again please ask questions about REDUX/Arkade Destinations because I can only imagine what gems he would drop about these projects.
The revelation of you being a writer on Escape was wild lol. Great conversation and insights into the industry. Hoping to catch your show in Tempe, AZ on the 27th!
Interesting observation on breaking into European market. The contrast and gap between America and Europe seems hugeeee. Glad you guys touched on that point.
Thanks for the great interview. The part about Escape was especially fascinating. deadmau5 was sent this clip and had the following to say: "didnt know any of this. *shrug* someone just dropped the vocal in my lap and away i went. thats all i know. but yeah, this is 10000% why i avoid working with fucken 3 or 4 or 20 fucken songwriters on a single track... such a shitshow."
Newcomer to finding your podcast and already three deep today. Awesome discussion and the "no way" moment about Escape was great. The whole discussion is awesome. On to Josh Wink!
Enjoy the podcast! You should add a windscreen to your mic and some processing to your mic to improve your audio quality. Looking forward to more content and music.
Love these so much. Let's do one Will! Lots of things to talk about from the perspective of an up and coming artist right now battling the ever evolving nature of our biz.
In regards to the Escape record.... Joel came up to Ryan saying "hey I have this record and don't know how to finish it". Did Joel add anything to it? Amazing how he handed it off to Ryan, seemed like he didn't even mention he received it from a label or manager (what have you). Ryan's take of it made it seem like Joel made this record from scratch and just needed his touch to finish it up. Clearly Ryan had no clue the origins.
Essentially Joel was sent the piano demo of the song by his manager, not knowing anything about its origin. He then tweaked it on livestreams but didn't finish it. Then once he decided Kaskade would be a good person to ask, he sent it to Ryan, who made it into a throwback progressive house song. And finally Joel would take that version and make the final touches plus mixing & mastering. Joel also finished his own solo version of the song during livestreams, an 8-minute masterpiece. However, he's yet to release it and I'm not sure if it will come out. He's only played it live once - at a show in Miami
As an outsider, never really how the industry works for songwriters/producer/etc. you say you wrote it will? How does Kaskade not know about it? I thought it was just him and deadmau5 who came up with the creation of escape organically?

Now I wanna hear the Will Clarke version of Escape.
There’s such a huge gap in podcasts for music producers and Djs absolutely love this channel. Have been binge watching all day yesterday and today. 👏
Man Kaskade is one of my all time inspirations in my own artistry. Can’t wait to get into this episode!
