All the covers of this are amazing. She has a few. Pure lighting in a bottle! Can't choose a favorite. Just play them in series over and over cranked to 11😁. Salvation in a song! Power of a bomb 💣 in slow motion.
I love the YT algorithm, unearthing talented soulful young musicians who are new to me like Sierra and her partner on dobro. This cover oozed taste and style. Have some poppers 🎉🎉🎉
As a big fan of Tears for Fears since my very first days (my mom listened to them while she was pregnant), you created the only cover of this song I'm able to listen to :) Thanks
I've seen her do this song with several different ensembles of different instruments. Last night, I saw her do it with a different guy on double bass; plus electric guitar and saxophone. I've also seen she and Ethan do it with a guy on piano and a different time she and Ethan with two guys from Jerry Douglas' band. I've seen her with her husband, too; but I have yet to see them do this song together, in person.
She said it was one of those snippets of song you get in your head that you can't think of the song and it comes back a few times. She finally figured out which song it was and then it was off to the races. That part I understand because I get snippets of songs like that. How she constructs a song is far beyond what I can understand. They are very complicated while sounding very simple. I know the songs that she covers are familiar to me and they are not songs I particularly like but, when she does them, I'll loop them back to back for hours on end. Today I did an experiment. She has a song she wrote, Redbird. I heard it once and skipped to another. Today I looped it while I did other things. Now I like it a lot.
Saw her do this last night; but the trio had a pianist/accordianist. She's had various different trios with all different instruments on this Winter's tour.
I was at that show too; but I just noticed your comment now. Yes, the opener, Scott Mulvahill was amazing. As I recall, he joined them for a different song towards the end. He will be doing a headlining show at Stoughton in November. I saw Sierra at DelFest and she did this song with a quartet that included 2 members of Jerry Douglas' band. That was on the third stage, indoors. The next day, on the main stage, she was beginning this song, again with Sam on piano; but a few notes in, there was a lightening strike and power surge that cut power and ended her set abruptly. If you love Sierra, then try to make it to DelFest. She is there every year and guests with everyone and really steals the show. I saw her play as part of 9 different sets in 2 days. It was my first time seeing her play with her husband. Among other sets, she was part of Ronnie McCoury's Mandolin Extravaganza, that included himself, Sierra, Ricky Skaggs, David Grisman and a young, little known guy whose name evades me. She blew them all away. They all stare in awe when she takes a solo. There was one point when David Grisman, who was sitting next to her, gave up and stopped playing and leaned on his headstock with his mando on his knee as he watched in humility. Del himself strummed along on guitar for some of the set on her other side and made some hilarious faces of shock as he watched her tear it up. I have several cool pictures of such scenes.
@@oberhaupt79 I just discovered her . She is so expressive with the mandolin. As good as her singing is , for me its counterpoint to the instrumental sections . The way her inner voice comes through on mandolin reminds me of the way Stevie Ray Vaughn was with a guitar .
Chris You could add hundred of thousands of thumbs up on your statement. This was such a soulful version with a great frigging band. Her lead solo on her Fender uke was the bomb
Every time I watch a Sierra Hull video I smile.
Didn’t realize how much this song haunts me in a good way. Love the performance, Sierra and her musicians
she's awesome playing that instrument as well as singing. Kudos!

Sierra’s done a few covers of this Amazing track…. They are all awesome . What a talent, beautiful voice
I've seen her many times now at festivals from coast to coast and never ceases to amaze me. She's a very rare talent.
Its special to listen to musicians this good
Her solo is breathtaking
She is doing to this song what Johnny Cash did to 'I Hurt Myself Today'. Sierra just keeps owning it more and more..
I love it when at the end of a session you see the smile, and everyone knows they've nailed it perfectly.

Very well put together and entertaining...

Very moving. Thank you.
Very nice !

I wonder what made her decide to cover this song. Go girl!

we saw her about the same time, at the Stoughton Opera house in Wisconsin. She performed with 2 basses, it was amazing!

Damn !!
She should record this. She does it better than anyone else I've heard. BTW ... that four string mandolin could be twice as old as she is.
That's not saying a lot, she's only 31.
Oh my!!! :)
What tuning is this? Sierra must tune down a half step and capo up.
Frank the Bunny brought me here.
J.K. Actually, the Philly Folk Fest brought me here.
XLR8DaMUSTANG me too! Amazing!
Is there anything Moe doesn't play?
Is that a 4-string electric mandolin?
Yes It's a fender mandocaster
Wait, is she shredding? oÔ
Cut it.It will be number 1
i am the deer in your headlights baby.

Pity her voice is too quiet in the mix...
