Hi BN fam! Just to clarify, we waited until the foundation was pretty set before washing, but we didn’t wait weeks or days to mimic people who don’t wash their tools often. We did it this way because (firstly not all people leave their dirty tools aside for days or weeks and) this product is designed to be a spot cleaner, which traditionally is used shortly after use - similar to how a makeup artist would spot clean their tools between clients.
yeah but someone who washes their sponges like once a week will use like 2 pumps, let it dry, then wet it before reusing it so some of the product comes off. i dunno if i make sense ^^´
@@Alteusgirl Best practice is that if people are washing their sponges once a week, they should have enough sponges to be able to use a clean one each day. If they are reusing the same dirty sponge it is a) gross and b) very unhygienic and can lead to an increase in acne. If someone only has one then they should try to get into the habit of cleaning it after each use
Sponges are the easiest thing to wash anyway. You already have to wet them before use, just take 20 extra seconds to spray on a cleanser and give it a quickie scrub.
BEAUTY NEWS I’m one of these multisponge people :D I HATE cleaning sponges and brushes with a passion so I have more than 10 sponges so I only have to clean them twice a month (I collect them in a container after they dried down to prevent them from getting dusty or moldy). And same goes for brushes. I think a have 8 or 9 Foundation brushes to switch between 😂😂
Laziness cost you a lot of money 🙈😂
Hygiene is so important when it comes to makeup tools and sponges. I know a girl who neglected to clean her sponges properly...and now she has horrible acne and she'll be the first to tell you why. It's so simple, quick and easy. I clean after every use. Sure, that may seem excessive to some. But I don't play games when it comes to my skin lol further more, most brands of sponges are very affordable. However I don't encourage tossing them after a few uses and buying new. Bad for the environment. Just take the time to clean them. 🖤
reading all the comments saying “I wash my sponge before and after every use” and you’re just sitting there like ... “yeah.. same”
leila nila and here i am with only one sponge :'D
jackie palmieri jajajajajaja LITERALLYYYY I wash it until I notice it won’t hold more
I dont wash it until i notice my makeup is applying different or smth... im disgusting..
@@responsiblelobster5223 same here.. I use the same foundation and only on my face.. When its filthy, giving me a problem, or I have a breakout.. Lol
@@nikiiannarone7149 yeah lmao
I blend a cream contour stick with it( the nyx one cos tbh im a dude whos a poor noob and i csnt be trusted with better) thats obviously darker than my skin
So i wash it when i notice my makeup gets darker... god i should be in jail
At first I was irritated you were using a KVD product...but liked that you were wasting it for science, which KVD ironically doesn’t subscribe to...enjoyed this.
She bought that foundation a long time ago, and I can't think of a better foundation for her to have wasted for science
Hailey has had this foundation for over a year. The KVD boycott is exactly why she was willing to use so much of it 😝
kvd boycott? someone filll me in@@BEAUTYNEWS
Kat von D has some great products. Her brand and she as a person are two different things.

I'm going to be honest, my depressed ass barely has the energy to wash my hair much less my makeup tools🤦💕 thanks for this video it has inspired me to wash the gross stuff.
Bella Capulet I feel you girl. Sending you much love, from some one else who is too worn out from depression to wash their hair sometimes too. Take care! 😘
Toad Day Get Toad thank you sweets, I am sending you my strength. Take care of yourself too love. 💕
Oh I hear you! I found a great spray from Sephora that I just pray and wipe my brushes and it’s so quick and easy to use after every time I use them. It’s a Sephora brand makeup brush cleaner. Microfibre cloths are also good and I just use my fingers for cream products so that cuts down on having to clean stuff.
Me too!
Bella Capulet I feel your pain , girl !!! You’re out here trying your best and that’s what counts, you are not alone 🥰💗
am I the only one who just uses dishwashing liquid and hot water? Cheap and quick so I can clean it after every use
Nope!! 😭 me too 👆
Nope. I keep a small container of dish soap in my bathroom for exactly this purpose.
Be careful which dish soap you use because under new legalisation (in the European union anyway) of them are now labelled with the ! On the back. Meaning it's a Health hazard/Hazardous to the ozone layer. Just did chemical training course at work and a lot of people were shocked by that. I know you're not putting it directly on your face but just be careful with it. Or make sure that label isn't on the back of it 🙈🙈🙈
E T E R N A L I use shampoo because it’s designed to break down oils and be people-safe. I also use this to clean my makeup brushes.
Yeah I just use Dawn 😅 cleans everything including brushes perfectly
You should try this with an old sponge....not freshly dirty

I thought this the whole video 😂😂
I always use a bar of soap, it cleans the sponge very well.
Kari622 that works really well too. I tried my daughter in laws Beaty blender bar soap and used my caress bar soap. They worked the same, and one was considerably less money.
I use olive soap, it's amazing
I love that you are using the Kat Von D foundation. Gave me a big laugh.
These girls are the best!!! 😍😍😍😍

Loved this video girls :-)
Kayla Grech made me literally laugh loudly out loud.
Would have been interesting to see how this one compares to their solid and liquid cleansers, and on a Beauty Blender. I find the texture of the RT sponge to be more latex like and easier to nick when cleaning.
Agreed, should of tested with a legit beauty blender
I think this episode should go down in BN Hall of Fame. I am positive we all though the Blender Cleanser was going to be terrible...
I still wouldn’t clean my entire brush collection with that product, but like you both said as a spot treatment, this product definitely surprised me...
I would use that for a everyday clean, before or after application. But I'd still wash the sponges with warm water and soap every week. Definitely found this type of product very handy
Valeatrah Lyn but it was cleaner than the Daiso one...
@@meinkanta that's true but a proper wash with warm water will kill all the bacteria, i don't know if the foam is
anti-bacterial :/

hate-watchers, probably. I mean, sure, people can not like someone's content and give a thumbs down because that's their prerogative, but some people follow creators just to hate-watch them and downvote anything they put out, probably because they've said something a stan has taken offence to. Kat von d gave it a thumbs down
Same here 😍😍😍😍😍😍
Kat von D contributing to science!
I just use hot water and dish soap, it gets the job done quickly and takes away all the stains tbh
@@Nobodyhere001 if this info helps: i always spray a little bit of alcohol on the sponge after cleaning it and it doesn't degrade the sponge at all so i don't think normal soap will do that either
I wash mine with warm water and a mild laundry soap, also works like a charm and my sponge smells nice after. Did not affect the quality of the sponge after many times of washing
I also use dishwash soap, because it has substains that break down the oils in your dishes but contains emolients to protect the hand's skin. So dishwash soap is perfect to clean brushes and beauty sponges.
I use fragrance-free antibacterial hand soap. From my experience, whether it's a usual soap or sponge cleaner they all last pretty much same time
I use bar soap, or anytime i go to a hotel i swipe a few bars of their soap. In my opinion bar soaps work better than liquids.
ZOTE laundry bar soap is by far the BEST beauty tool cleanser I’ve ever tried. You get a huge bar at Walmart for 98¢ and it lasts forever!!! Since it’s meant for laundry it gets all those tough stains out and makes duo fibre and synthetic brushes bright white again!! Works wonders for sponges too.
We used this for oil paint in high school!
Zote is amazing! It takes stains off of brushes I never would have gotten out otherwise.
I use baby shampoo and olive oil. I saw a video once using both and it works. I've tried just the baby shampoo and it doesn't work as well. Not sure the science behind the olive oil but it works!
With the Beauty Blender cleaner, since it says not to rinse, I would think that if you then tried to use it to apply more makeup, and since like you said it’s basically a dry oil, wouldn’t that residue then mess with your application? Like wouldn’t that potentially break up product?
yeah and I dont want lavender oil on my face, either. I wish makeup companies would just sod off with the lavender.
Perhaps it's meant to wash off the next time you dampen it to apply?
Nikki Evans maybe, but the instructions are so vague someone who doesn’t know any better might not think to do that.
Nikki Evans plus it is not necessary to dampen the sponge to apply. it does say wet or dry and i personally prefer a dry sponge over a wet one
And wouldn’t the oil also clog your pores resulting to zits or pimples?
Why do some many companies put lavender in when it is not needed! Ive got a lavender allergy so using this would probably give me hives all over my face 🙊
Amanda Patterson saaame. So annoying. That and rosemary is in everything! (I’m also allergic to rosemary)
IVE NEVER MET ANYONE ELSE WITH A LAVENDER ALLERGY. IM NOT ALONE!!!!!
The smell of lavender nauseates me so i know the struggle. Not really allergic but oh man do i feel sick when I smell it.
@@kittvaughn6200 Same girl, kinda blocks me up a bit too
@@JSA683 what products are you referring to with rosemary? It's my favourite but I never seem to find anything. I mustn't be looking in the right places
I stick my sponges in a tied off pillow case and put them in the washing machine to clean them, works very well and is good for the lazy
I used to put mine in a little mesh bag that I got from somewhere or other, and bung it in the washing machine too. CBA handwashing sponges.
Same, but i use a thing meant for bras (its kind of hard do it doesn't get stuck)
Girls i love your channel however i dont think this was a good test. I think you should let the foundation sit for a fee days so that it “stains” and as you stated in the video not used as much foundation. I dont feel like thats how anyone would actually use a sponge
Aish Chandni exactly what I was thinking! I cut up an old sponge that had been cleaned many times and used many times and there was foundation lodged deep in the middle but the outside was clean, I guess the more you use it the more it gets pushed into the middle!
Aish Chandni exactly, thank you for saying that
Thanks for the love ❤️ We tested it this way because spot cleaning is more commonly a way to quickly clean your tools straight after using them (like how a makeup artist would clean makeup in between clients), and since we were testing a spot cleaning product this was the fairest way to see it if worked. Deep cleaning is often done days after a tool has been used, but this isn’t a deep cleaning product 😊 Also there are many people who leave their tools to sit for a week before cleaning them, but there are also many people who wash them straight away (like me) so we can’t please everyone unfortunately 😝
@@BEAUTYNEWS I always wash my beautyblender straight after using it and it's stained like hell overtime. Please consider doing a video like this in the future with the Instaclean trying to spot clean stains to see if it works!
@@BEAUTYNEWS no makeup artists should wash their brushes completely soap and water brush cleaner whatever you use in between clients. Or just use a different clean set of makeup tools your flaw there is what if a client is allergic to Lavender? Or your client could be allergic to someone else's Foundation that's why you have to wash it. Spot cleaning is never good for someone who does multiple people's makeup. I paint children's faces and I have five sets of paint brushes about five brushes in each. just so I don't have to risk painting a child's face with something he's allergic to or cross-contamination. Use a clean brush everytime or if I'm limited I washed a brush in soap and water and then dip it in alcohol and then rinse that brush off in clean warm water before I paint the next kids face. just to be sure I feel like this product was for stains. For example if my Foundation can stain a white T-shirt even after I bleach it it's going to do the same for a beauty blender. Just because it has a stain doesn't mean it's not clean it just means that the product has deformed the color of the sponge. but even then the product doesn't actually tell you what it's for is very vague on the direction.
The chopped ones look like little sweet potatoes 💚
Yummy!
Very interesting. Probably helps my germaphobe side to know that the foundation sits more on the surface, that I don't have to worry about cleansing as deeply. Instaclean did a surprisingly good job.
Just a quick note - the instaclean is only meant for quick spot cleaning on daily usage. Beautyblender has a bar soap and a liquid soap meant for deep cleaning the same way the dyso product is, so although the instaclean was effective in this test, the two products tested side by side aren't meant for the same purpose :) Especially since the entire bottle of instaclean was probably used here, the blendercleanser liquid and bar soap use much less product for deep cleaning!
Yeah I never let my beauty blender get that dirty..... 😐 I need to go clean my stuff...
I use Zote soap. It is a huge pink bar of 'Laundry' soap. It's a dollar. I cut the soap into smaller bars and it lasts so long and gets all the make up off.
This is my go-to for cleaning sponges and brushes. It also works for paint brushes. Overall, the Zote laundry bars are just a really good product for a lot of things.
I wonder how it works on a sponge that had like dried foundation on it 🤔 Like sometimes I’ll do my makeup, not have time to clean my sponge right away, and have to spot clean it when I come home in the evenings. So excited for BN “vlogmas” girls! ❤️
Fresh sponges always clean well. I’d like to see you try this with sponges used for a couple of weeks or left a few days
I love this science-based way to test out beauty products! Love your channel, ladies! ❤️
I love that you guys are testing Beauty Blender cleanser with RT sponges
omg i literally just cleaned my sponges and brushes and BOOM i leave the bathroom, open youtube and this video exists!
Oh those scissor cuts are giving me life. That scissor sounds so sharp.
I usually dilute one or two squirt of the Daiso cleanser with water in a small bowl and squish the dirty sponge in it. Get another bowl of just water and squish and rinse it there... I've never had any residue left inside the sponge that way and I've cut old sponges to look. Love you girls! 😘😘😘
Maybe it's just me, but I wash my sponge before every use. Taking a sponge that still has leftover foundation in it from the other day and putting it on my face is not something I would ever do.
It's gross. All those beauty youtubers care about quality and skincare, but their makeup products and application tools are all dirty. I do not understand.
Exactly! I just wash it out with some soap when I go to wet it, it takes no time at all and I always have a clean sponge!
MrHeroes800 Not just you!!! I wash every single brush and sponge after each use! Keeps my eyeshadow palettes clean and last longer and the colors I apply are never polluted with left over color. I have a BeautyBlender that is 3 years old and there isn't one stain on the thing! I wish the Real Techniques sponges weren't so fragile though.
Totally agree! Brushes need to be used dry so I see why you might want to spot clean them, but sponges really don't need that because if you do it right before your makeup session it won't be a problem if the sponge is wet of course.
Not so much my brushes because I rarely use them but my sponge comes into the shower with me every morning and gets a wash before I use it that day
Ok here's my theory;
With the beauty blender cleaner it doesn't have water pushing the foundation further into the sponge. Unlike when you're submerging the sponge into the other cleanser and water, it's then absorbing and seeping the foundation further in. The oil from the beauty blender isn't penetrating far into the sponge so it's just lifting it from the surface. Just my thought on that! 😊
I love when y’all do the rewind thingy at the beginning of the videos
Hi girls can you guys maybe destroy and check out the new Jeffree star cosmetics northern lights highlighter pallet releaseing on the 7th of December.😍🤩😘
Yes, that would be great 😍😍😍😍
Omg was not expecting that kind result!
I use dishwash soap, because it has substains that break down the oils in your dishes but contains emolients to protect the hand's skin. So dishwash soap is perfect to clean brushes and beauty sponges.
I wish their channel had more subscribers. From my perspective they look very true ppl helping us out in what is true of the product that is being sold by companies!!!
I use literally just a bar of soap and water and it cleans my beauty blender in seconds. You just have to rub the sponge on the bar and then rinse. Cheap. Easy. Fast. And ends 100% clean. I use a black beauty blender so you'd be able to see any foundation stains left
I agree this is my preferred method as well.
I just use a $1 bar of Dove soap 😊 good video, I was a bit curious about that cleaner!

Does Dove soap work just ok or really well?
@@jennym007 it works really well for me! 😊 I just rub the sponge all over the soap and rinse and repeat until the sponge is clean. And I like that it's a cheap, portable option that's easy to use while traveling.
That’s all I use for my brushes and sponge, it’s good shit 😂
That’s all I use for my brushes and sponge, it’s good shit 😂
BN:MB!!! Very interesting! I just use soap and water. I was surprised that more foundation wasn’t deeper into the sponge! 😻😻😻
I wonder if you could spray the beauty blender cleanser and work it in and then rinse it in water.
I wash mine with a bar of soap (a sensitive one) using warm water and gentle up and down motions and works a treat for me and is cheaper than most products marketed directly for cleaning them

@@phoenixgirl70 well I figured Kat and Hailey could use a table to put their coffees on while they film all those hours of Beauty News 😂😂😂
Nikkidarkangel that’s a fantastic idea 😂😂.
Missed opportunity to use the control sponge as a test for your theory at the end 😭😭 I want to know how it works if you deep clean it w the cleanser and then spot treat with the spray 😩
Ooooh what about a brush cleaning comparison between the Sephora dry shampoo and the BB cleanser?
I like the Cinema Secrets brush cleanser but the scent is so strong. I only use it for deep cleans on really stained brushes and foundation brushes.
I make my own brush/sponge cleanser from dish soap and hair conditioner. It works great and is super cheap!
My favorite makeup tool cleaner is actually a bar of Zote laundry soap. It's $1 a bar in most places and it's HUGE. It works super well, and it penetrates super deep into sponges to get the foundation from super deep down inside. If rinsed fully, it also doesn't leave a smell behind, though the soap itself smells super nice, sort of like citrus and that "clean" smell of a laundry soap.
If you do end up trying this experiment again with a cleansing oil can you cut open a 4th sponge, moistened but unused, as a negative control?
I’m crying on the inside at the thought of wasting a perfectly good sponge but the negative control would be nice just to see what the inside of the blender should look like dampened but completely unaltered (and yes, I know your positive control gave an idea of that).
Another interesting possibility would be to squeeze them in small bowls of water after cleansing to see how turbid the water becomes with whatever remaining product is in the sponge. But then if you test in duplicate and cut one set of replicates and dunk the other, that’s a shload of sponges.
Great video! I've only used this on brushes for a quick clean.
Wow...I totally thought that BB spot cleaner was gonna be super gimmicky but I might actually check it out now. It might come in handy for in between deep cleanses.
I got the Daiso after seeing your Lancome Highlighter destruction and really love it for daily use :)
I literally just use PH neutral soap to clean it every morning. Does the job 😂
I yse olive soap, it cleans even the worst foundation in 2 sec
It would've been alot more realistic if the beauty blender sat with the foundation soaked in for about a week but holy crap I love this
Please do more videos like this. I love y’all.
Yes, I was thinking this seems similar to my Makeup Forever instant brush cleaner...
Ohhhh how I’ve missed you ladies! Been catching up on your videos since I haven’t been able to watch You Tube lately...😘♥️
I had one of those RT sponges about a year ago and it got those small tears within a couple of uses and only extremely gentle cleaning. I was pretty pissed!
I use this foundation, it's the only foundation that's semi close to my shade. Wish I could find other brands that were cheaper and are light enough.
Try thatayla channel. She is very fair skin and is a foundation testing queen!

kvd foundation is so hard to wash out of beautyblenders i needed THIS video
I love my KVD foundation!! Haven’t been able to find another that works as well as this one!!
I'm actually shocked at how well that worked!!! I would never buy it (hotel soap works great) but I am impressed!
Ouuu! Interesting!!! I like this! I like tests like these! Nice work ladies!!
I clean my brushes and sponge with Dawn dish soap and hot water.
Though I've heard you can use shampoo to clean them, too.
This was exactly what I needed in my life! Thank you so much 😊
I would like to know what the outcome would have been had the Daiso sponge been cleaned under running water (because you would actually wash away the stained water, soap and bacteria). And also, since the BB cleanser uses some kind of oily substance, how does that effect the sponge when using it with foundation again? Would that not lift the foundation off your face or break it up?
Omg cutting them was so satisfying to watch
Here is my truth: I have never used a beauty blender. Real or knock off. Just here supporting my faves!
This was really interesting!
There’s these big bars of soap in stores, called ZOTE. They’re bars of soaps that specialize in laundry, so it makes it a perfect bar soap for fabric-y beauty blenders/sponges. The bar is huge and legit less than 3 bucks. I recommend it highly ✨
Ooooooh that backwards bit in the beginning was glorious!!!
I edit my comments as I watch the video 😂 that KVD foundation is just terrible. I got a sample once years ago, and I think it was the worst foundation I've ever tried!
Wow, wasn't expecting that result! This was a really great episode! I wonder if the BB cleanser would work if you only soaked it in water, like you did with the Dyso one. Then you wouldn't have to deal with messing up your brushes and sponges, but still get a really deep cleanse. I'm also kind of curious to see if the Dyso cleanser would work better if you rubbed it on a paper towel before soaking it in water. So many questions :')
I wonder if this spray would work on dried out foundation, like you did your makeup in the morning, didn't have time to clean the sponge and you need to use it the next morning
Which nail polish have you applied?? Very pretty Color
I use the orange dial soap, works perfectly!
i love using *olive soap* it takes makeup immediately!!
A trick I use to clean my makeup sponges is wash them under warm water with good old cake soap ..... just rub the cake of soap directly on the sponge under water and ring it out and rough foundation spots come out so easily!
Ive been using the microwave hack for 2 years now, its def a life saver.
ooh what's the microwave hack?
@@Watsunderdabedtoday fill a mug with liquid soap and water and place the sponge in it. Microwave for 30 seconds, just until the water gets hot. Let it sit for a few minutes. After the water cools just enough for your fingers to be submerged without pain, squeeze the sponge in the water or squeeze then redip. The sponge will be clean in a few minutes.
@@Heeyitsmika gonna try this!!
This doesnt work for me
Jessica Williams Yea that seems sketchy...wouldn't the hot water degrade the sponge after a few times and just set the stains more? I just wash mine after every use so it's never hard to get clean.
Best sponge cleanser is plain old hotel soap. Works like a charm. Gets them really clean.
There’s Daiso in Aus?!?! I love that!!!!! Think they have them on the gold coast side?
I use coconut oil and antibacterial cream dish soap, works nice. I always do a double cleanse on my blenders just to be sure. Xo
What about a video on foundation stains on white collars? I wonder if any of the face cleansers or micellar water would remove it? I have a bit of luck but not with white cotton t-shirts though...
Would be interesting to see what the weight of the Instaclean was before and after use to determine the amount of product used. I personally use a bar of soap after watching it on RUclips by one of the bloggers. Would not do that on my precious brushes though.
I love the subtle dragging of Kat von disease
what would be a good alternative to the daiso cleaner, other than the beautyblender one? :)
I've been thinking about getting this cleanser or the little solid one but I don't know about that lavender smell. I used to use that foundation in high school. (way too light colored and heavy looking for me I realize now lol) It does smell like paint, and I despised that bottle. It was the first foundation I ever got matched for and got at Sephora, and I think I used half the bottle before I was fed up.
Savannah Kendrick the blender cleanser solid doesn’t smell like lavender btw! I like the solid better than the liquid though. If you have access, try out the Shea Moisture African Blacksoap bar for brush & sponge cleaning, it works sooooo well and the bar lasts forever!
I panned my KVD foundation this year and it took me FOREVER but man when I finished, I felt so satisfied and accomplished
I use the elf solid sponge cleanser. It's a bit scary at first because it's dark grey, but it washes right out. It's only a couple of dollars and it comes in a little plastic case.
I’m allergic to lavender, I wonder how much of the product is lavender oil.
Could you please leave a link of where to get the dyso puff and sponge cleanser?
Love the video btw, very helpful! Xx
We buy them in store, (at least in Australia) Daiso don't sell products online.
It's fresh foundation so u can clean it with dishwashing liquid. But most of the users it has to be old like many of us Don't wash it right after the use
You should try that cleaner on a old beautiful blender. One that has foundation that was not wash out from a previous day.
I snickered when you mentioned the kvd foundation 🤣🤣
I loved this video as I love ALL of hour videos! Have a great day! Love from New York, ~Angel
i'd preferably wash it since I use it wet anyway. I loooooove using oil cleansers... Like Eucerin oil bath or we have our Becutan baby oil body wash
OMG I've never been so excited
Ok but what I need to know is whether the sponge soap cleans better than plain ol' dish soap...aka is it worth the buy
I wash my makeup sponge right after i use it, but it’s still interesting to see products like this!
you should try nooni’s snowflake cleanser it got a cushion foundation sponge (the one that’s soaked in foundation) completely clean
I use the liquid beauty blender cleaner, I've cut my open after using for months, and it looks the same on the inside as the Beauty Blender spot treatment but no oils in the liquid soap version
