MAPPA Just Broke The Internet and Anime Fans

- MAPPA just broke the internet with them working on Ranma 1/2 that's set to air this October. This is the same studio that made Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 and Season 2. Has worked on Attack on Titan Final Season and even Hell's Paradise. I've never seen a anime trailer get over 26 Million views in under 12 hours. That's even disregarding its a 30 year old manga without any new anime adaptation for that long. I doubt we will have to worry about MAPPA changing things to fit modern audiences but it could be censored to some degree. We will have to wait and see.

You excited for the anime?
It's censored, which means it's dead on arrival sadly.
Yes
Not at all. There is nothing exciting about anime being censored by an overworking and underpaying studio.
Boomers in chat showed up for the trailer drop and I'm here for it. Definitely gonna be checking this one out
As someone who watched all episodes of the original tv and the movies, I am in fact ready for the remake.
Reviving an anime that released when 60% of the viewerbase weren't even alive is crazy
Not saying they're dead, just that most of them weren't born when it came out
one that also heavily deviated from the manga too
@FierceDietyLink100 Yup, the amount of filler in the original ramma 1/2 anime is I will say more than half of the animes episode which is godamn nuts ( and not new for the anime industry at that time). And I believe it didint follow the Mangas ending, so people will be hyped for this one
The remake will be censored. Saved you time and money as any anime fan does.
@@ronel7836true but it was fun one off filler episodes, it’s the long arcs multi episode arcs that are annoying
It's only 3 decades, we are still very much alive, thank you.
26.3 Milion Views is CRAZY for it to be in 12 hours. It's insane and it is mindblowing.
Proud and happy for the fanbase
Then the viewership goes down when the remake is censored.
@@LuigiTheMetal64 Nope, they won't give a fuck. A show coming back 30 yrs after for a readaptation, and you think there gonna drop the show because of cencorship??? Bruh pls stop being the "censored police" it's kinda cringe
@@ronel7836 Wrong. Fans do look at the past releases. That goes the same for rock music fans too, and I have done that too.
@@LuigiTheMetal64 Let me correct myself, The Japanese fanbase won't give a fuck, only you and the other "censored police" will. And rock music has nothing too do with this
Ranma in the modern day is either going to be controversial or heavily censured.
And the usual suspects are going to be extremely annoying. That is, unless they get filtered.
No, people still think that the view of the rest of the world applies to Asia, they don't care
Shoow it uncensored to gatekeep the tourist out
Ranma was the first anime I had to search for and watch to completion on illegitimate sites. Back when you could even watch all of it on RUclips.
I did my first watch through during Spring Break 2013, the channel had all the episodes spilt into two parts and full screen
Man I miss those days! It was so easy to pick up and watch new anime!
Ah the golden era of anime youtube... when you can watch a whole anime episode... copyright was an innocent child and not a grumpy old man.
Watched it on RUclips but when i can't find the sub i switch to dub since its both good lol
yea I watched the whole series dubbed on youtube, through different channel. What a time.
I just hope they don't censor the show because that show had some spicy moments and I am all for it!
they better not
They will. Urusei Yatsura has been censored, that means the Ranma 1/2 remake will be censored too.
Is censored, the trailer show no nipples :/.
@@LuigiTheMetal64 Sadly the 2 blue hair leftist on Twitter who would cry about it will ruin the fun for us all. We sadly live in 2024 😮💨
@Official_RetroMania Not true, the 3 obese red hair leftists are in on it too!
the concept of switching from a boy to a girl physically thru the use of water is just quite interesting back then and to this day I still love it.
i want that power so much.
@@X99-h6rkinda say but shit count me in
you think the cancel culture leftists are going to allow this to exsit...This is a diffrent polotical time. This is going to be VERY VERY bad
What? Water? What?
@@williamhogrider4136 Yes its a curse. he changes genders if exposed to water. Again proveing you gen Z know nothing about what you are talking about. Yet again proveing this show needs to stay burryed. Yes he changes genders. That is the whole premise of the show. No where is it ever shown to be a good thing either. In fact the oppsite it is always and forever was written as a disgusting curse.
Ranma 1/2 is one of the best comedy echii/ gag shonen animes out there.
The same mangaka also did Inuyasha and Rin-Ne
Big fax!!
it is not ecci it just happen to have some characters with no modesty, and rumiko takahashi did more much more
everyone knows urusei yatsura but maison ikkoku is also a master class
@@kokodin5895it legit shows nips
Urusei Yatsura came first.
Y'already know Mappa was beating their employees to get this out by next season when it was only announced like a month ago. Hopefully, Netflix jail won't ruin their hard work
Mappa has 3 production lines
1. Keisuke Seshimo(JJK, Csm) The overworked line
2. Fuko Noda(Maboroshi, Dorohedoro S2?) They are stable rn
3. Hiroya Hasegawa, (VSaga S2, Boukyaku, VSaga S3?) This line is stable rn
It's not the whole studio that overworking their staff, it's 1 line that is. And don't worry, that line is not working on ramma 1/2
@@ronel7836 That's good to hear at least. Since it's the company's vision to produce a ton of high-quality anime quickly that's putting the workers into such difficult working conditions I wouldn't be surprised if it bleeds into the other production lines but if it's not right now then that's great.
@@KOFNY Ye it can one example I can remember was csm, where they had too pull some animators over from other production lines to work on the anime. They haven't announced the csm movie yet or jjk season 3 more info, so maybe that line is tryna balance themselves, And on top of that, mappa as a whole has been kinda reconstructing, by having in house training and wanting their own in house talent.
And at least... Not Crunchyroll is handling the broadcast.
It's will be on netflix??
The creator of Ranma 1/2 is Rumiko Takahashi. She is arguably top 5 most influential mangaka. She also created: Urusei Yatsura, Maison Ikokku and Inuyasha
@@Ash_Wen-li
True. Maison Ikkoku is my favorite series from Rumiko Takahashi. It's a very good romance series .
Alas she approved the horrible yashahime series without actually playing a role in the story quality. 🤦♀️
I’m so ready it’s been to long
huge ranma fan let’s goooooo
I am 29 soon 30 and yes I watched Ranma 1/2 when I was a kid! 😎👏🏻
literally the same here
please tell me youre like me;
akane was your first waifu, 10 years before you had any idea what that even is.
I'm just a year older and I also watched it as a kid. To be fair, I'm from Latin America and Ranma ½ was marketed as a kids show, I remember having a coloring book from the show
as such do you really in a million years.
Think a show about a man being forced into transgenderr, who ocnsiders it a disgusting curse, Yet leans into the full sexuall nature of that situation when it benefits him, will be allowed to exist in any form what so ever? Particularly considering the authors views are in fact. Openly "women weaker than men, women submissive, Male who turns into women perverse and disgusting"
Never in ranma 1/2 is his situation considered a good thing. Most of the drama in the show comes from him needing to HIDE. this situation from others because he finds it vile. Do you think that will be allowed in 2024? in any form what so ever? You are dreaming. The only way this comes out is with heavy censorship of EVERYTHING from the script to the visuals.
SAME 😂. Ranma was great! You know your old if you watched it on youtube
you've never seen Ranma?!?! you are in for a treat. i saw it first when they had the VHS at my blockbuster back in the day lol
Same
Ranma is quite beloved ngl. for like two generations
As a Rumiko Takahashi fan, I have never been more excited in my life after Urusei Yatsura
This series is so big in Latin America. I was born in Mexico and my mom and I would watch this all the time 😭😭❤️❤️❤️
I'm 41, Every other year i rewatch the entire series and i had a feeling they'd remake it eventually. I just wonder if it'll be just as nuts as the original with Ranma walking around with tits out like a dude LOL.
Im 34 I know they wont be able to do so without massive censorship and change of everything from charictors to story to themes to visuals. The show will not be the same. Nor will the story. It will be Ranma 1/2 in name only. Such a show with the themes of Ranma can not in anyway exsit in 2024. You are 41 you should know this. You know the political state we live in day to day now. You know who controls what we do say see and think. You know that those powers that be would be threatened by the themes of this show.
@@MauseDaysThey'll probably be able to get away with it as shown in it's original state, but they'll do one of two things trigger warning the most blatant episodes or pull what Bones Studio had to with it's Time Patrol Bon series and make the entire thing M rated for Netflix when in that show there's technically been only two on screen deaths with blood that shouldn't have warranted it ever being anything above TV-14. I remember episodes of Ranma 1/2 either being rated TV-14 or PG depending on what was shown in the few I saw. Now all of it will likely be M rated and it's sad because the first two M rated series I ever learned of were Inuyasha and Detective Conan back in the day on Adult Swim's Toonami.
"Ranma ½" (1989) just released the same anime as "Dragon Ball Z" (1989) both debut in April 1989
We practically just finished urusei yatsura remake, and now we get a ranma 1/2 remake so soon afterwards fills me with joy
chibi you really dont grasp how big are some series that didnt land the landing in the US but were big everywhere else
It was big in the US too. In fact it was more than big; for a point around the early-mid nineties it was pretty much ubiquitous; pretty much anyone who was an anime fan back then will recognise Ranma 1/2 even if they never actually watched or read it.
Back to my childhood...hope they adapt everything
The original Anime had 160 Episodes and was far from finishing the manga so it could have probably about 200 Episodes but i am so hyped oh my god i watched it as a teenager about 4 years ago and i really liked the show and was really disappointed they didn’t finish
Why are you hyped? Do you know what year you are living in? this thing can not exist unedited changed and heavily censored in 2024. Wake up.
@@MauseDays why are you so pessimistic bro? are people not allowed to be hyped about this anime just because of the possibilty of it getting censored? If it gets censored, THEN DONT WATCH IT. EASY. Just watch some hentai in the internet
I grew up watching Ranma and tbh im scared. The original holds up, and modernizing it could be problematic. I see mass censorship incoming.
Anime is censor for quite awhile now if you look at early 2000s era you can see the big three censorship with blood compare to the manga
And don't forget the rainbow people 💀
Same! I can feel the censorship in the air.
the og voice cast is returning though so at least it will sound famiiar if you didn't just watch the dub
@@needtau4138Ranma was a lot of people's introduction to transsexualism. It is, to this day, one of the most relatable depictions of body dimorphism that I have ever seen depicted (not necessarily realistic, but relatable). It also created a ton of fandom works dealing with sexuality and desire. This is a masterpiece in how to do LGBTQ content. It doesn't preach it simply shows.
It's crazy that animes like this could get so much attention And that you feel like you're missing out, because of that, I'm definitely giving this a watch.
The sales for ranma manga are going to go crazy
Ranma 1/2 was huge in Latin American they re run it all the time, all my boomer friends are hype about it. it was almost as big as dragon ball for a while.
@@camilguzman6488 I'd say alongside Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon and Pokémon, Ranma ½ played a huge part in the anime boom in Latin America that happened in the late '90s
Coincidentally, Ranma ½ and Pokémon were dubbed into Latin American Spanish in the same recording studio
Ranma 1/2 one of the first "modern" anime that I watched after not having seen any since the 1960s. One of the greatest. I still have tons of "trinkets" associated with the show (trading cards, pencil boards, art books, etc.).
Half of those 26 million views are probably from Mexico, Distrito Federal, alone.
I loved Ranma 1/2. I'm looking forward to this.
Once it is on Netflix, it will never be available on disc. Someone said Netflix have no respect for content preserving.
You'd be wrong because it isnt an original by Netflix. Considering TOHO and MAPPA go hand it hand, TOHO will sell it physical
@@SemekiIzuio I read that Toho are protective of Gojira, which is a good thing, but every merited person knows that anime are Japan and not Netflix.
It will also be released in Netflix after the tv broadcast done cast in japan
@@simplered9661Yet, Viz did not release Sailor Moon Eternal on US disc after all these years.
You're not wrong. "Bastard!!" was heavily censored on Netflix and even had a trans actor playing Kai Harn (a beloved female character from the series) in the dub. It has two seasons and NO Blu-ray release. There's not even been a hint of a physical release, or any uncensored version. The funny thing is you know there were plans because in the ending there is literally a nip slip for a half second on Arshes Nei when the censor smoke goes too far down. That happening in an anime where every other times bare breasts were drawn the nipples were just not there... Kinda shows that it had plans for a Blu-ray uncut version, but... Netflix jail.
they better not sensor this anime
They will and they did
As someone who's loved ranma 1/2 since I was a kid in the 80's, I am overjoyed Mappa is doing this 😊
Me and my friends are in our 40s and we can't stop discussing the remake
I can't wait for your video today on Alya 🤗
I will be uploading that one tomorrow
I've watched anime on and off all my life, but it was Ranma 1/2 that made me a die hard fan.
Biggest and very welcome surprise for me is that they kept the original cast
Indeed Chibi, you're underestimating this work, it is Rumiko Takahashi's most popular one for a reason. After all it's the OG ecchi harem romcom upon which all the later ones look up to. Plus it's the manga that popularized the "gender bender" concept which is heavily used in clever ways for comedy. Finally, the manga has some crazy fights because of its martial arts theme, and if properly animated that's where this remake could really shine on its own.
Ranma 1/2 was very popular in latin america, not that much today, but the show was incredibly funny and horny as hell lol
courtesy of shampoo
It was popular to regions that watch a lot of anime during 1990's aka not US or Europe
looking forward to this. i like that they kept a similar art style to the original show. be nice to be able to watch it 4k or whatever format they plan on releasing it on.
I am. Ranma 1/2 is great and the anime back then didn't do it justice after season 2. The only thing that could drag it down is modern anime cutting back on the casual nudity that helped this title along.
Ranma 1\2 is the anime for me. It was my first anime and turned me into a lifelong anime fan! Definitely going to check this out and hope it is treated right.
Im stoked. Really hope since its netflix that means it wont be censored though. Really hoping..
Well, Bastard's remake was on Netflix too, and guess what? It was censored...
I only know the reputation of the series, but I am interested to see a classic in a shiny new coat of paint.
MAPPA, we appreciate your sacrifice...
I'm glad they got the original VAs for male Ranma, girl-type Ranma, Akane, Nabiki, and Kasumi! Apparently, we have new VAs for Genma Saotome and Soun Tendo.
@@amandadean5470 I hope they can keep the original voice for the series' respective dubs. Here in Spanish-speaking Latin America people want the original voices back, since they were so iconic, though Shampoo and Genma will need new voices because their original VAs passed away many years ago
2008 Ranma 1/2 had a OVA episode ❤
Seeing the trailer for Ranma 1/2's remake I can't wait to see my favorite anime series return ❤️
Ranma is back, I'm really happy, I know it will probably be censored but I'm happy that people will get to know this anime ❤

I have never heard of it but i am willing to give it a chance.
Creator of Inuyasha made it
It's a great series to read and watch.
Man, i remember watching it as a kid with my sister, i even have the DVDs
26 million views? Absolutely deserved. Mappa cooked with this remake 👌
Used to watch Ranma as a kid 😭

Ranma 1/2 is CRAZY
Ranma 1/2 is getting a new adaptation?! Hey nice news! I remember watching the older series and had a lot of fun.
I was watching Ranma on TV when i was a 7 year old kid.
Ranma is home, love, fights and beautiful girls so I don't care how many years will pass, I will always remember it and love it.
4:19 Yeah, unfortunately I'm already expecting them to cut down on that, but I'm still going to watch!
Ranma 1/2 was amazing and I’m glad it’s getting a remake
Ranma is one of my fav all time anime. I am excited for this.
Now i'll have a more recent Ranma 1/2 anime to binge watch along with the original!
I watched ranma way back in the early 2000's on RUclips which actually lead me to my first pirate site because there were big chunks missing so this show means a lot me personally
I believe most, if not, ALL the OG Japanese cast will be reprising their roles. Least that’s what I heard
The original voice actors and actresses will play their characters again, they did an interview about it
@@akane7082 with a panda!

YES, YEEEEEEES! ONE OFMY TOP 5 ANIME OF ALL TIME IS COMING BAAAAAAACK! *YEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!*
An underrated classic is back and i couldn't be MORE HYPED!!!
My friend loves this anime, I remember when we would have sleepovers and she showed me around 12 episodes of Ranma but I never got around to watching the rest of it. Now I'll have a reason to watch it again, especially if this one adapts the whole manga.
Ranma 1/2 had 7 full seasons + ova's and movies so there is plenty of story arcs to animate if they choose to.
Ranma 1/2 is an S-Tier series and manga! The movies are really good.
Ranma is the series that really immersed me into anime originally... while it was still airing. :) Yes, the anime has a ton of filler episodes. But, between 38 tankuban 140+ episodes, 3 movies, and several OVAs, theres a ton of material for Mappa to use.
I'm most impressed that they brought back most of the original Voice cast for the same characters... and at least one is doing a different character.
Its kind of crazy how I was debating watching Ranma 1/2 like a week ago, but I decided to watch some shorter shows before getting into it, and now I hear of this lmao.
One of those legacy titles coming out to this kind of fanfare warms the heart some. Ranma does numbers, people.
Also this is 2 out of 3 of Rumiko Takahashi's best known stuff being revived. Somewhere, studio execs are eyeballing Inuyasha with intent...
So Yashahime
maison ikkoku but none of the censored modern remake like urusei yatsura
I remember watching the original anime in reruns and stuff but damn I'm so happy to see this do so well. Plus coming out so soon in October hell yeah LFG Mappa
Holy crap it's THAT SOON!? 3 MONTHS!? Dear lord those animators...

It wont be a proper adaptation. you are in a diffrent universe if you think it will. You really think this show is going to be allowed to exsit un censored and un edited in the polotical landscape of 2024? Just before or after, an election season that seen an attempted assanation of a presidential canadate, and looks to have been planed by the secret service itself?
Tokyo Mew Mew and Trigun got a revived anime, and Magic Knight Rayearth is in production too.
It's not specifically the author but well known old anime
One of my favorite anime that i watch almost everyday as a child getting a remake, what a freaking great time to be alive man
Ranma 1/2 is one of the first anime’s I’ve ever watched, I HOPE that nothing goes wrong with it
Are ppl forgetting that Urusei Yatsura remake came and went and that her second most popular ip after inuyasha.
Btw watch inuyasha and urusei yatsura, it’s peak
Everything by Rumiko Takahashi is freaking Gold.
well that's what happens when you revive an all time classic, which is better than 95% of the garbage we get today.
nothing can beat the old school classics.
hope they don't censor it too much tho....
Same here, if they censor it? They will ruin it because so much of it depends on Ranma going topless and the naked bath scenes.
@@MWhaleK as said before many times, since you are not the only one using that irony and sarcasm,
it's not about the "plot relevant details", it's about sending a message.
it's about staying faithful to the source material as the creator intended it to be.
in todays time censorship of manga while being adapted to anime is an issue which you are probably aware of as a fan.
now it may not be a big of a deal in ranmas case sure, because yeah as you said already...topless scenes, but what kind of a message does it send for possible future reboots where for example expressive language or graphic depiction do play a role in the overall experiance.
many of the old retro classics for example had a lot of this elements worked into them. and it was the combination of the plot itself, the storytelling but also the visual depiction why we still remember and love them after all this time.
Old School anime fan here, I remember watching the 1989 TV series via satellite television from Japan. The show was absolutely hilarious!!!
I think it was Fuji Television Broadcast Station, I remember the time zone difference. I was watching it from the U.S. in the wee hours of the night recording the episodes with members of my anime club.
Nighttime in the U.S., daylight hours in Japan, those were some fun times 30 years ago!!!
The fact the voice actors are same as original one is just crazy
I have dun Ranma story for new fans. Most of us found it through Viz's very first few Pokémon episode vhs tapes. It was an for the first two movies and most parents had no idea what they had done when they brought home episodes or manga home to us. Mind, my mom had chilled out on most of anime content by that point so i was fine, but i can picture so many parents flipping our over the bath scenes
I watched this a few years back and i never expected to this being remade. Considering how this trailer got 26 million views is madness.
I love Ranma 1/2! It’s hilarious!
3 months to wait just watch this again, the thing I was more excited about after urusei yatsura got its remake.
How has a series this popular flown under my radar for so long
Maybe because you weren't born yet when it aired on TV
first urusei yatsura reboot now ranma 1/2 reboot I'm glad rumiko Takahashi works are getting adapted
He is starting to believe
Ranma 1/2 is a classic and I am so excited that it gets a remake and I hope they ask the original VA who made Saotome Ranma (male) on the map to voice him again
@@AmuJaneTV if you're referring to male Ranma's seiyū, Kappei Yamaguchi, he was confirmed to reprise his role as well as Megumi Hayashibara as female Ranma, Noriko Hidaka as Akane, Koichi Yamadera as Ryoga, Rei Sakuma as Shampoo, Minami Takayama as Nabiki and Kikuko Inoue as Kasumi
It'll be interesting to see if this will lead to a revival of Ranma cosplay, fanart and everything else that dominated anime conventions in the mid-to-late nineties. As for the content, I see giving everyone what they want by releasing a both censored version as well as an uncensored version to be the only winning move.
I mean, Urusei Yatsura's remake had no uncensored version. So I don't believe Ranma 1/2's remake would get one either.
