I hate when people complain about "Trail fails", like its no big deal...an H1 is a H1, its rare and nice double Ex SP AC44s leading that UP train and nice fakebonnet😊
Cool catches! Funny story about those CN units. The info on the screens can be switched between English and French! One of the crews I know at Thayer got on a train that had one of these as their rear DP. When the conductor got on the motor (which is what they refer to locomotives as) to check and make sure it was in "run mode", everything on the screens was in French, lol!
It’s wild I had H1 leading and I didn’t even know it was a heritage unit I just thought it was a different type of livery for some reason or another I took a picture of it nonetheless
It's not a true Heritage unit in terms of what we generally think of. More accurately, this was BNSF's first (and it's most short-lived) official post merger scheme. Surprisingly, there's still a good number of these units still running around, they show up pretty often on the Thayer Subdivision where I work, although it's rare you see them leading.
Managed to catch a H1 Dash 9 on the UP Albert Lea Sub which was interesting to see along with the engineer really having fun with the original K3L that was on it.

I'm told CN locomotives are desired by crews because they have more amenities in the cabs, so if they have a choice of what leads, it'll probably be the CN unit. This is also why NS power is hated

I just got an H1 yesterday it wasn't leading unfortunately but there was a SD60M with it which is the first time I've ever seen one on BNSF
