Awesome video Tim!, would you be able to do a video which includes all the camera, microphones used, and any accessories you find useful to create your content? Keep up the great work Tim! 👍
I had been planning a 3 - 4 day trip just after New Years from Sydney, down the South Coast and into Vic North West High Country taking in McKillops Bridge and then heading west to Tom Groggin, staying as close to the Boarder as possible, then back up to Omeo, then down to Corryong, then across to Albury for a couple days with family. COVID Boarder Closures killed all that . . . maybe a mini holiday later in the year Grant
Great trip, i remember doing butcher country and the Macalister back in the late 70s, very different back then. Do you ever stop at “Fred’s drop”? One of my favourites campsites.
G'day mate, That area would have been unreal to drive around back in those days. Still amazing today, really nice area to check out. Not sure i have heard of Freds Drop. Cheers Tim
Love your videos Tim, and the “travel light” ethos shows you really don’t need to carry all that extra weight. I just completed a trip to Dargo and Snowy River NP over the new year break.
G'day mate, Travel light is the go, thats for sure. It makes a massive difference on steep tracks. Sounds like a great trip you have just done mate. Thanks heaps for your reply and feedback. Cheers Tim
Good stuff Tim,lots of great tracks and things to see.Good old Vic weather, four seasons in one day.Couldn't have a day on the tracks without slipping a pie in somewhere, did you leave your sauce at home? That Green Hill track doesn't appear to be driven too often, unless it's Suzukis that have been there.pretty closed in,plenty of bush pinstripes.Anyway, great few days out,see you next time👍🙂
G'day Wayne, Yeah mate, thats the might high country weather for you. Just never know what it's going to throw at you. Haha, didn't leave the sauce at home mate, but some pies dont need it i reckon. Lol Yeah mate, that Green Hills Tk is very tight in spots, certainly no good if you dont like pin striping. Lol Thanks heaps mate for your reply. Cheers Tim.
We camped at the same campsite as you (about 15km from Licola), and saw your car there. Was just a tad warmer than last time i was up that way (middle of winter)
Geez, Timmy! You stand there with your sanga, taking in the sights of that beautiful river, then, after you finished the sanga, you drove off. What the . . .? Didn't you see that 'wee broon troot' rising, just a little downstream from you? Crikey, mate, you should have been into that thing, big time, with your fly rod and without a second wasted. I can't believe you drove off . . . opportunities lost. **sigh** 😉
Gday Bill, It was a great spot for lunch Yes, fish jumping all over the place. We drove off for a very good reason. For me, getting out of places like that before it rains, is far more important than trying to catch a fish. I’ll be back at some stage. Cheers Tim.
G'day mate, That was a great trip. Stunning country. The storm just added to the trip. At least it wasn't cold. Thanks mate for your reply. Cheers Tim.
Gday mate, Yeah they came off as part of the weight reduction. Don’t need them for getting in and out of the Patrol. I went back to try and hear that deer honking that you mentioned. I couldn’t pick it up. Good pick up if you heard one. Ive seen a lot of deer in that area over the years. Thanks for your reply mate. Cheers Tim.
Great vid as always Tim 👍 that vhc is just magic! Looked a bit tight going up at the start! Coupla queries . . . Do you miss your drawers at all? & What brand are your seatbelt covers? Cheers mate keep up the great content mate 👌👍😎
G'day Ben, Yeah mate, the high country is stunning. So much on offer. The first track was very tight mate, not a great track if you dont like scratches on your 4WD. Lol The new set up is fantastic. There's no way heavy draws will go back in. Draws are around 80kgs before a knife and fork goes in it. Plus i like how i can take the boxes out when i get home. The seat belt covers are made by Gota Ya Covered, they make the canvas seat covers. Thanks for your reply mate. Cheers Tim.
I wouldn't like to tackle Butcher Country track hill in the wet - wise move to do it dry. From the look of the bulldust it would have been nasty and dangerous next day. We went down Dingo Hill last week and out through Caledonia River track - that's a very easy drive compared to the last time we tried it - only got half a k from the link track and had to winch ourselves out of the bogholes and turn back, haha.
G'day Ein, Yeah thats why we came out. Being way down on the Mac River and trying to drive Butcher Country in the wet, sure isn't a good idea. I haven't been into Caledonia for a few years. The bog holes have been bad on the track for a few years now. Good thing you got out ok. Thanks for your reply mate. Cheers Tim.
Another epic vid and trip mate. Love it. I'm always super paranoid about driving narrow stuff like the track at around 8:00 in the vid and coming across someone coming the other way. Any tips for dealing with the passing / reversing on narrow trails like that? Thanks again mate.
Gday Greg, Thanks mate. That trip sure did cover some amazing country. As far as narrow tracks. Mate, you just have to make it up at the time. Work out a plan with the vehicles coming towards you, and see who can reverse up. Specially if the track is to tight to pass each other. Hope that helps a bit mate. Thanks for your feedback. Cheers Tim.
Great Video! Thanks. By the sound of it you were in 4 Low pretty much the whole time. Is that the case? Whats the benefit (besides better for your transmission when tough terrain).
G'day mate, Not sure it was the whole trip, but it would have been a fair bit of it. Im never in any rush, allows me to stay off the brakes a lot. Im never going over 3rd gear, any higher and I'd be changing into 4H. I just find it easier to cruise along on low range than high range. Thanks mate for your feedback. Cheers Tim
Did you have to replace the OEM clutch with a heavy duty one? I heard Patrol manual (pre 2012) clutches ate notorious for suddenly going. By the way apart from the steepness and the water crossings, most of the track is better than many roads up here in the Northern Rivers area where people have to drive their 2wd vehicles! What's more narrow winding roads, with horrendous pot holes often covered by water not giving you a clue that there is an abyss down there, vehicles coming on the wrong side of the road around a bend....I reckon we can handle any other road, anywhere....
G'day mate, A new clutch went in at about 300000ks. I just put a heavy duty clutch in with a solid mass fly wheel. Im on my third clutch sine new back in 2009, with nearly 340000ks on the clock. The roads down sound great up your way. Cars on the wrong side of the road around blind corners, happens down here as well. Not great when it happens. Thanks mate for your reply. Cheers Tim.
Was supposed to be there last week (then the borders got closed - bugger!) I follow your trips on google earth as you drive (a best as I can) so I get a picture of the terrain etc and listen to your track comments. Now looking at coming down to do this trip in March if everything settles down. Great videos Tim. Like a virtual tag a long tour. Much appreciated. PS: How did the Patrol go with less weight?
G'day mate, Thats a bugger alright that you couldn't get down here. Things might be on the improve, and you might get down here in March. Your Google drive thing sounds interesting mate. The Patrol handles so differently now with the weight out. The suspension will need a tweaking at some stage. It's a bit harsh on some tracks. Thanks heaps mate for your reply and feedback. I do appreciate it. Cheers Tim.

COVID Boarder Closures killed all that . . . maybe a mini holiday later in the year

**sigh** 😉
Gday Bill,
It was a great spot for lunch
Yes, fish jumping all over the place.
We drove off for a very good reason.
For me, getting out of places like that before it rains, is far more important than trying to catch a fish.

G'day Ben,
Yeah mate, the high country is stunning. So much on offer.
The first track was very tight mate, not a great track if you dont like scratches on your 4WD. Lol
The new set up is fantastic.

Great vid mate. Did you follow the left fork or the right on Black Soil Gully Rd where it separates and goes past Caledonia River Track please?
G;day Dave,
Black Soil isn't near Caledonia River Tk.
Maybe track names mixed up.
Cheers Tim.
@@timbates4wdadventures you are dead right mate. Sorry about that. I meant Butcher Country Track.
G'day Ein,
Yeah thats why we came out.
Being way down on the Mac River and trying to drive Butcher Country in the wet, sure isn't a good idea.
I haven't been into Caledonia for a few years. The bog holes have been bad on the track for a few years now.
Good thing you got out ok.

Another epic vid and trip mate. Love it. I'm always super paranoid about driving narrow stuff like the track at around 8:00 in the vid and coming across someone coming the other way. Any tips for dealing with the passing / reversing on narrow trails like that? Thanks again mate.
Gday Greg,
Thanks mate.
Cheers Tim.
@@timbates4wdadventures Thanks Tim, good advice!
Great Video! Thanks.
By the sound of it you were in 4 Low pretty much the whole time. Is that the case?
Whats the benefit (besides better for your transmission when tough terrain).
G'day mate,
Not sure it was the whole trip, but it would have been a fair bit of it.
G'day mate,
A new clutch went in at about 300000ks.
Cheers Tim.
I just love the snow gums
G'day Roger,
Yeah, they are amazing little trees.
Great camping at elevation.
G'day mate,
Thats a bugger alright that you couldn't get down here.
Cheers Tim.
