Welcome! Yes, for older models it should be enough. But you don't even need to replace it. You can buy a bios programmer from ebay and reprogram yours in place.

Another good one. I wonder if you can help me with a Lenovo bios issue. It keeps jumping to GMT time settings. If I boot into Linux that OS knows to fix the issue but when I boot into Win10 the time is annoyingly always wrong. Am is missing a setting in bios where it is told to set to GMT? I honestly never seen that before. I don't think it's a BIOS setting. Are you sure it's not Windows that is doing that? If you have W10 you can go into Settings, Time & Language, enable Set time automatically and disable Set time zone automatically. If that does not work, try to play with this two settings and see what you get.
I used this F1 method to get to bios and the time was 5 hours ahead, instead of 12.37 it was 17.37. I reset the time, again, in bios to the correct time. Booted into win10 and the time was correct but i did disable the time zone, what ever the second option is. Several shutdown/re-starts and it seems to be keeping the correct time now. Clearly either bios is feeding windows or windows is feeding the bios and one or the other is changing the other. Confused yet, lol. Linux is unaffected ... it is to laugh. Thank you, my fingers are crossed.

On l570 we need to press enter then followed by f1 however the startup logo often removes the option to press enter. I cannot figure out why

It's either bad cpu, old bios or unsupported cpu.

Might be a problem initializing something. Try to remove some memory and the hard drive and see if it does the same. You can also remove the mouse if it's usb.

In E430 i press Enter, and there is a sound, but than Win10 is loaded anyway...
Found this online for your model: "I got a bit impatient and just booted it and hit Esc and Del and F2 and F12 and Fn-F2 and Fn-F12 (because Lenovo had made the function key functions secondary, on the function keys; it seemed that I had to press Fn to get them to function as function keys instead of turning up the volume on my speakers or whatnot), and that did get me into a Boot Menu."

Found the solution, go into windows/settings
Right-click the Windows icon and select Settings.
Select System.
Select Power & Sleep. Select Additional power settings under Related Settings.
Related settings
Select Choose what the power buttons do.
Select Change settings that are currently unavailable.
Disable Turn on fast startup.
Now the startup options appear
