The girls footage in the hair parlour was taken around 1922. In 1922, a brief fashion was used by flappers - very short skirts(for the time). It was not a fashion standard for the time but they were FLAPPERS so... the hemline dropped more for 1923 and flappers short skirts were over - only to return in 1926 as a fashion standard.
If only you could still get an awesome vintage bob done like that nowdays, without having to go through the whole battery of washing, blow drying and styling in a way you will never style your hair ever again.
@@eastleford20 The problem is that you basically have to go home and wash it again and then style it again to see whether you got a good haircut or not. Even if you get the same products and all, you'll never be able to style it however they did again. Their main concern seems to be how you look walking out of the salon, not whether you look any good when you're styling it yourself. I don't think barbers here even cut women's hair, sadly. I gave up, let my hair grow out and just whack off the ends when they split. But you're onto something. The shorter you want it, the more clueless women's hairdressers will be when it comes to cutting it. They all can trim long hair but if you want a good pixie, you basically have to go to a short hair specialist or a barber. You said "pixie" and they seem to hear "Karen haircut".
@mchobbit2951 guess it depends on the barber I suppose. My barber is Dominican and he is really skilled. My wife just had him do a basic layer cut the first time, about an inch, and she loved. That along with him shampooing her hair was half the cost of a regular hairdresser. She wouldn't have him do a really elaborate cut or a complicated foil job (he has done a semi permanent color on her a few times) but she's hooked
@@eastleford20 Well, I wouldn't want your average women's hairdresser to do a complicated cut on me either. Not after the experiences I made. And more expensive doesn't mean you'll get a good cut either. I don't get foils or any of that. I do semi permanent color at home.
This was in NYC, apparently Sheridan Avenue in the Bronx, in 1924.
Thank you 🙏

Perms!
My wife goes to my barber. They have more time learning to cut hair and he does a good job. She does have him shampoo her hair for her though

My great grandmother was a flapper...she said she scandalized her mother by wearing lipstick and riding in the car with a boy!
So amazing,,,,Flappers went to Male places and became customers in business for only Men. CHAMPIONS 🏆
My great grandma used to wear her hair like that. She had this rod that she'd heat up every morning and press her hair into waves.
