    I have a Thinkpad X260. Removable RAM, removable SSD, removable battery, 1080p IPS screen. I have 2 extra batteries, I can go 2 full days before needing a recharge. This is not possible anymore.

      How's the 260x for drawing and light games like wizard 101. Or should I get a surface go w 8gb ram?
      Or should I get the new dell inspirion
      W 8gb ram has a graphics card but can only use capacitive stylus?

      True but x260 is dual core and x280 is quad core. That is important for some people. Depends on your workflow of course.

      @@sdtechconsulting The comment is 5 years old. USB-C has changed everything regarding the battery situation and I can just order the laptop with the amount of memory I need. I am just expecting delivery of a Thinkpad T14 Gen 3 with Ryzen 6850 tomorrow (or thereabouts) so I'm way past the bulky batteries and removable RAM. Also, the current replacement for the X260 from back in the day I think would be the X1 Nano but I did not gather enough courage to gen one of those.

      @@10mbc oh wow didn't realize it was from 5 years ago. lol. Amazing that you still replied. Either way, I am typing this on an x230 and also use a T440p. I love how easy they are to mod but tech has changed so much now that its easy to find good performing hardware with MUCH better battery life and more effeciency all around.
      The T14 Gen 3 is one I have been really wanting for a while but its still a bit spendy. Still, those 6000 series ryzen chips are no joke. I wonder how the onboard graphics perform. I have an Acer laptop with a Ryzen 5 4600h and its pretty good all things considered. Enjoy the T14

    There's a bit of confusion going on right now with Lenovo and their x2** series imo. They seem to be taking the laptop in the direction of the t4**s and ditched the attractive points of the x2** in the process: the hot-swappable battery, RAM slots, and ethernet. Given that the footprint hasn't been reduced like the t480s's has, I think the x280 is a tough sell over the T480s.

    • @carnelianknight5713
      @carnelianknight5713 Год назад

      I think there's still appeal in the smaller form factor although the T480s does offer about the same if not more features.

    Not a huge fan of Lenovo, but appreciate how thorough your reviews are. I don't know who else you have similar arrangements with to receive and review different manufacturer's, but it would be helpful for comparison purposes. Still holding off before I commit to buying my new laptop. Thankfully I'm in no hurry! May even choose a Chromebook instead since it would likely serve my purpose. Thank you for another honest review!

    I have newer equipment and a built gaming rig but I REFUSE to give up my T520. The thin still performs better than expected after more than its fair share of years. Well built, classic design and in my opinion..better thought out and designed for users on the go. God I love it! lol the only bad thing is the speakers...what were they thinking?!

    Damn they are keep going down since the *40 series. Thinkpads used to be about rigidity, upgradeability and good ergonomics or at least decent keyboard. They keep removing useful features from their laptops. This one by any means is better than x220/x230 besides the newer cpu and ram, most of the machine is worst.

  • @InvisibleIink

    Thanks for the great review. Maybe you can get Lenovo to send you the next version of their AMD A-series thinkpads. The current model, the A275, is expected to get the Rizen Mobile chips. I don't expect it to ever be faster than the the X280, but if it is comparable in performance, it will likely save us a few hundred bucks.

    Lenovo is really starting to slip with the X200 series. The X280 no longer has a built in RJ45 port, RAM is not upgradeable, smaller battery and non removeable battery. It's starting to become an X1. I hope the X280 goes the way of the X240 with the horrible trackpad and they revert back.

      Tony There are some benefits:
      - Mil-SPEC 810G standard.
      - Keyboard that is often said to be the best you can get on a laptop.
      - Both a trackpoint and a touchpad.
      - Small form factor.
      - Plus, it looks like it's made for work rather than to impress your friends.
      I was not able to find another laptop with those benefits (except the previous X2xx models).

      The price is for companies. Nobody buys a new thinkpad unless it's a professional. When new, they are as reliable as it gets, and I wouldn´t be surprised if the support is good and extensive as well. It's about different things compared to a personal computer for home usage. Most people who have a thinkpad for home usage buy them secondhand, where they depreciate hugely in little time when companies just get rid of them for little. Then they become a great option. You can buy a 5 yo Thinkpad for less than 200 dollars.

      Heavily depends on what you use a laptop for, and what your general hardware requirements are. If you want a proper laptop that is balanced between performance and portability, has a good keyboard, decent screen, very durable, good hardware expandability/servicing, and has a long battery life then go with the ThinkPad T480.

      Lucas Mokhtari it’s a business laptop. If your employee breaks the screen much cheaper to replace . They usually come with 3 years warranty at that price. Built for employees that may be rough with their laptops, certainly better bet than a Surface Pro for durability. Plenty of deals from resellers, I usually get 50% off 4-6 months after release.

      Lenovo is already making some robust, good looking and small notebooks which have great keyboard, good processors and battery life i.e. Lenovo 720 with 8th gen Intel and AMD Ryzen series so except Mil-SPEC 810G standard, this notebook has nothing great about it.

    • @brinckau
      @brinckau 6 лет назад +1

      Yes, the 720 is good looking, which is why I wouldn't buy it. I hate to look like I'm trying to send certain signs (in a semiotics sense). It makes me feel dumb, so I try not to do that. Also, reviews say it doesn't have a great keyboard at all (1.2 millimeters of key travel, worse than on many entry level laptops). It also lacks native Ethernet. The X280 is certainly not great too, as they removed many features that its predecessors had, but it's still interesting for some users.

    • @nitinkumar29
      @nitinkumar29 6 лет назад

      brinckau I have yoga 720 and it is definitely not bad if you don't mind to carry a dongle, keyboard is just fine and keyboards are personal taste. I liked the keyboards prior to 2012, don't like chiclet keyboards at all but can't do anything about it.

    I can't believe folks are still paying these high-end prices for laptops. When there are Chromebooks and mid-range laptops that can do the same job. Unless your company is buying the laptop for you to use I see no justification in spending $1500 for a Windows laptop. Its not even sexy, Lenovo should be ashamed of themselves. Hey Lon great review, thanks!

    • @brinckau
      @brinckau 6 лет назад +2

      Some people, like me, want a non-sexy laptop. It's a computer, it's not supposed to be sexy (especially a business computer). And I hate to look like I'm trying to show off with my computer, or to look like I'm influenced by marketing ("my computer is sexy"). Also, Chromebooks and mid-range laptops don't have the durability of this computer.

    • @SeanAnthony
      @SeanAnthony 6 лет назад

      No laptop is truly durable unless you purchase a Panasonic Tough-book. I worked with Lenovo laptops for many years and I can say they are not durable. The Lenovo Thinkpad X series was not made for durability it was made for portability. In reference to marketing, we are all influenced by marketing and unless you still have a flip-phone.

    • @brinckau
