Otyken [O-tu-k`en] is one of the best Russian "modern folk" bands. Their texts are in Khakass, Chulym and Russian languages. Word "Otyken" in Chulym and other Turkic languages means - "a sacred land where warriors would lay down their arms and talk".
Altay (region in south Siberia) is the hypotethical ancestral home of all Turkic languages tribes (peoples). Ummet Ozcan is a Dutch DJ and record producer of Turkish origin.
Otyken: Azyan - vocals; Ach - keyboard, throat singing; Kunchari - igil (two string cello); Otamay - komuz (two-three string guitar); Tsveta - vargan (aka mouth harp, jaw harp), drums, komuz, vocals; Maya - drums; Hakaida - bass-drums; Aiko (Muna from this year) - bass guitar.

IMHO, both Pulse and Wild Girls are improvisations. More precisely, one and the same improvisation. Where Pulse is the "final" version, or we can say that Wild Girls was one of the intermediate ones. The same story happened with Apocalypse, which became Smoke.
Ummet Ozcan sings about the Turkic pantheon, listing the gods and goddesses: Kök Tengri (God of the Sky), Kayra (God of the Universe), Erlik Khan (God of the Underworld), Ulgen (God of Good Deeds), Mergen (God of Wisdom), Kızag Khan (God of War), Umay (Goddess of Fertility), Kuara (God of Thunder), Kubay (Goddess of Children), Koyash (Sun God), Ak Ana (Goddess of Creation, in modern Turkish means White Mother), Ay Ata (Moon God - in modern Turkish means "Father of the Moon"), Gün Ana (Goddess of the Sun - in modern Turkish means "Mother of the Sun"), Yel Ana (Goddess of the Winds - in modern Turkish means "Mother of the Wind"), Yel Ata (God of the Winds - yes, Dad of the Wind), Burkut (Eagle God), Od Tengri (God of Time), Boz Tengri (God wandering the steppes), Su Ana (Goddess of Waters, Mother of Water in modern Turkish), Su Ata (God of Waters), Od Ana (Goddess of Fire), Od Ata (God of Fire), Yer Tengri (God of Earth), Etugen (Goddess of Earth).
They are Chulym, native Siberians who are the ancestors of all native americans.
i mean, thats half true. Yes, siberians are more closely related to native americans than most other eurasians. But the crossing from asia to north america happened so long ago that the people in eurasia has kinda all mixed up a little bit. Noone can claim to be of the exact same ethnic group that crossed to north america. It doesnt work like that

Otyken (Old Turkic:𐰇𐱅𐰜𐰤, romanized: Ötüken; Russian: Отукен, OH-too-kyen) is a Russian Siberian indigenous music group that mixes elements of local folk music with modern pop, incorporating traditional instruments, lyrics, and languages. 'Otyken' is a word that is used in Chulym and other Turkic languages for a sacred land where warriors would lay down their arms and talk. The band was formed in 2015 by Andrey Medonos, and their debut album was released in 2018.As of May 2024, the group has over 2.5 million followers on Tiktok,over 245,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, and 820,000 subscribers on RUclips with over 200 million views. The band members are of Siberian ethnicities and live in tiny villages along the Chulym river in the taiga of Krasnoyarsk Krai.
You hit the jack pot with Otyken. You can see their native lands and lifestyle in many of they're video's. Honey production, fishing, yurts, etc. You haven't seen all of the instruments yet. I personally like the burl wood string instrument, not seen here. Please do more! Yes, for me this music is healing in some form, always feel better after listening to their music.
Both, Ummet Özcan and the band members of Otyken have Turkish roots, both belong to different Turkish tribes whose original homeland was central Asia and Siberia.
Over thousands of years, due to migration and the very large geographical areas, the different Turkish tribes grew apart from each other. Some of these tribes even migrated across the Bering Strait to North America thousands of years ago and are the ancestors of the indigenous tribes there.
Although the various Turkish clans are widely distributed throughout Asia and Europe, they share the same original language in various dialects, same culture, instruments and mythology.
According to Turkish mythology and history, the area around the Altay Mountains was the original home of many Turkish tribes and "Otyken/Ötüken" was the first capitol of these tribes.This area is therefore sacred to most of the Turkish tribes and clans.
Ummet Özcan, who himself has Turkish roots, is a DJ from the Netherlands. He uses the throat singing technique here, which is very common among the Turkish and Mongolian peoples in Asia.
Many instruments used here are also ancient and traditional.The second instrument Ozcan plays is the "dombra", also called ikili (iki means 2 in Turkish languages) because it has 2 strings. A further development of this is the Turkish Saz/Bağlama from Türkiye which has more strings (6 - 7). The mouth instrument looks modern, but the traditional version of it has existed for hundreds of years and is called "Gubuz". If I saw it correctly, there is also something like "Muhinhur" (an instrument with a horse's head and the strings made from the hair of the horse's mane) and "Kılkopuz", also called ikili, a kind of mixture of violin and double bass, the strings also made of horse hair.
Otyken members sings about the Altay /Altai mountains so far I could understand (because I can hear her singing something like "dağlar" which means mountains or “al dağlar” which means red mountains in Turkish languages). There is also words that sounds like “stars” and there are bird sounds.
Ozcan sings about ancient Turkish deities that Turkish folks believed in before the emergence of the monotheistic religions when they were still shamans.
Here are the names of some of the goddesses and gods Özcan sings about:
* Tengri = sky god. He is the creator of everything. Tengri was the main god of the Turkish pantheon who controlled the celestial sphere.
* Kayra or Kaira = Supreme God of the Universe
* Adaghan = mountain god.
* Ülgen or Ulgen = God of goodness.
* Mergen = God of wisdom.
* Kyzaghan/Kızagan = god of war
* Umay = goddess of fertility. She is also the goddess of virginity and therefore refers to women, mothers and children.
* Kuara = God of Thunder
* Kubai/Kübey = Goddess of birth and children. It protects women who give birth.She gives children soul.
* Koyash/Kuyaş = Sun God. Koyash is the son of Sky Tengri and the Earth Goddess.
* Ak Ana = (Ak means White) Goddess of Creation. She is the original creator goddess of the Turkish people. She is known as the goddess of water.
* Ay Ata = God of the Moon.
* Gun Ana/Gün Ana =
Goddess of the Sun.
* Yel Ana = Goddess of the Wind
* Yer Ata = God of the Earth
* Od Ata or Öd-Ögöd = God of time. In Turkish mythology, he is seen as the personification of time. Often seen with the Time Horse
* Od Ana = Goddess of Fire. She is also called the goddess of marriage.

They are not Russian by nationality. They sing in Chulym, Khakass, Dolgan and Russian. There are many nationalities in Russia, there are Europeans, there are Asians. But we are all Russians. And there are no pure Russians in Russia anymore. During the USSR, there was a great mixture of nationalities. I am Russian, but in my family there were Jews, Ukrainians, Balts. A friend lives in my building. He is a mulatto, dark. A child of the 1980 Olympics. A great friend!
