- The Muskingum River State Park is spread out over 100 miles in southeastern Ohio. It's probably the most unique State Park in the state (if not the entire country). The area of the park was even
placed on the National Register of Historic Places. (Video recorded August and September 2014) June 2015 Update: I have learned that this ISN'T unique. They have the same thing on the Fox River in Wisconsin. So, while neither is unique, they are both VERY unusual.
There are a total of 17 locks on the Fox from the bay of Green Bay to lake winnebago 37 miles south. They are being restored by the state and private donations.
Are any of them double-locks?
Sorry---there is also a lock system on the Fox river in Wisconsin that is hand operated
john e Thanks for the info. I just read an article from channel 5 in Green Bay. It sounds like the locks there are being restored, which the locks on the Muskingum desperately need. I also checked the Ohio State Park website. Actually, they don't state that these are the only hand operated locks left in the country. One of the workers must have told me that because I know I didn't make it up! In any event thanks for the correction. No misleading was intended by this weekend road warrior.
Thanks for the follow-up!!
