@@thecreekcrawler great place for kayaks. River is full of small sandbar in the middle ,are great to beach the kayak and cast all around . The people there are the greatest also.
Gonna make a trip down to that river in the next couple weeks for some kayak fishing. Hoping to catch a 30+ pounder. Good catch, dude. You missed that fish because you’re not using a wire leader. Even if I’m bass fishing in a river, I always use them. Ohio has a lot of pike and musky.
Yea unfortunately I don’t have any wire with me when I go out. I’ve landed smaller pike easily with my bass gear but unfortunately, I came across a much larger one 😂
Dang man I live in Athens Ohio and I’m going to philo lock dam #9 on the 6th around 10:30 at night gonna be fishing with cut bait and maybe something that’s alive if ya wanna join me! 🎉
I recently moved from the Athens area back to Dayton. Unfortunately my trips out that way will be rare! The muskingum River is an awesome place!! Hybrids are loaded down near the confluence to the Ohio river!!
I caught a 20-30 lb monster catfish in July 2023 off those same drums but on the other side but it broke my line. Went back the next day and caught 8 channel catfish a little farther down than u were. Saw several gar just hanging out. Someone else said they caught what we assume was the same monster catfish like a week later in the same spot so I do believe he's just hanging around 🤷
@@thecreekcrawler a friend caught a ton of nice sized catfish down the river at the fairgrounds on 4th of July weekend might be worth checking that spot out too they'll be doing construction on the dam this year
Cool how you show the failure and are open to recommendations. Happens to the best of us. I have switched to an FG knot due to it being stronger. (In my opinion) you can also tie it blind once you get used to it. This scenario though, I think you got cut straight off. No pigtail and the line didn't look stretched.
Yea there are some toothy critters present as well as rebar… I have gotten way better at the double uni knot… so far I have learned to two the braid 8 times and the flouro carbon 4-5 times
Man. All you got to do is spool up with some 40lb ragin cajun It's got so much stretch it can't break. The fish boat flip themselves when they snapped back at ya. Let's go!!
Awesome video I will have to go fishing at the Muskingum River and hopefully you will be able to fish raccoon Creek north fork licking river and the licking River in licking county and Newark Ohio

Since this video has been posted I have seen hardly any issues..It just took me time to perfect the knot. So far just using a clinch knot has been way better than the improved
I really don't like going from braid to a lesser test leader. If I feel like I need a 10lb flouro leader, I'll just switch to a rod and reel with 10lb flouro or better yet, swap spools. I always order spares so I have different lines available. My distaste in leaders stems from having to cast in tight quarters more often than not.
I'd like to see tests that compare green or black braid vs flouro that demonstrate how many more hits you get with the clear line. I think sometimes I underestimate the importance and others I overestimate it.
@@thecreekcrawler I'm a tree magnet and that's bad because trees hate me, so if I tie on even an 18" leader it's going to be in the greedy, nefarious clutches of a tree, bush, log, vine ect in no time flat!

That appears to be a clean break on your fluro leader so that wouldn’t indicate a knot failure. It’s either defective line that failed or some toothy fish cut the line. Knot failure would most likely have bent/deformed line at the break.
Berkeley vanish fluro is awful, I’ve lost plenty of fish the using the line the same way you do. I switched to red label and I don’t have problems anymore
