some great stuff on the list, i think we were lucky to be old enough to appreciate the classic rock stuff and young enough to listen to the new stuff as well.
Reliving my youth. Was 15 in 77. Stupidly sold all my punk singles in 1980. Have managed to get 40 or so back over the years. It’s interesting how taste changes with age, never used to like go buddy go at the time, but after watching the Battersea performance of it numerous times,it’s now one of my favourites by them.Just brilliant balls out rock and roll
You have very similar musical taste to me, I have most of the singles you showed, saw Deep Purple a few times in 69/70 so I’am a few years older than you, very lucky to see loads of bands, all the well known ones and I was a roadie for a few years, so many that never made it. Saw Black Sabbath on the same day as Grateful Dead and Free at the Hollywood Music Festival May 1970, can’t remember them at all, unfortunately. I really liked Dire Straits, Sultan of Swing 1978. I used to listen to Charlie Gillette on Radio London, he also wrote one of the best books on rock & roll, Sound of the City, he was the first to play them on the radio!
You did what I did Chris, rather than making up what we listen to now compiled our lives listening which meant going a LONG WAY back. I was into Smash Hits/pop music too until secondary school when your classmates were likely to heavily influence your tastes. I think I was still pretty geeky though until I went to work in a record shop. Then I changed overnight.
This took me right down memory lane. Started secondary school in 76 and remember the older cool lads with Adidas holdalls , all with band logos drawn on. Lots of band badges too. Loved She’s not There at rock discos and great to see Fanfare get a mention by ELP . Iconic logo .
Great records and stories behind them too, Chris. I jumped on the 'vinyl train' at about the same time as you - think I have mentioned in a comment on a previous vid that Tiger Feet was the second single I bought, the first was Merry Xmas Everybody. They were played over and over in rotation - fortunately my mum liked them too! Just have those and a handful of other singles now that I bought back in the day - gave away every other record I owned in the late 80's (gently sobbing thinking of all the vinyl albums I once had). Spend much of my time these days primarily sourcing replacements - nostalgia I guess! - and as soon as I get one its like seeing and listening to an old best friend.
Lovely to hear stories of The Geaumont, I walk pass it every day (now The Mayflower) the list of bands it hosted from 68-82 is phenomenal, but for some reason it pretty much stopped hosting big names after that. It was the venue of Bon Scott’s last ever gig! My Gran lived in Poole & took me to see Little & Large at the Winter Gardens..the week after it hosted Joy Division!! She didn’t take me to that. I also remember The Smiths laying Poole Arts Centre..but I wasn’t allowed to go!! My cousin went & said it was half empty! Gary Gilmore eyes always a favourite.
Last time I went to the Gaumont was 82. Saw Whitesnake. I was at Bon Scott’s last gig. It was rearranged from just before Christmas. Diamond Head supported. Have seen shedloads of bands at Poole. Including Kate Bush in 79. I walked out after 4 songs. Thought she was too weird. Happy memories of Poole Bournemouth Southampton and Portsmouth Guildhall too.
We’kve all got a story like that.I saw Coldplay as a support act with about 50 others at Southampton Joiners in 2001..I confidently told everyone ‘Well we won’t be hearing from those guys again!’ @@TheVinylOrchard
The main logo I remember on the older lads' Adidas bags was AC/DC. I'm ashamed to say I purged 'Moonflower' recently, not because I didn't like it but because I'm just so desperate for space. Nice honest response Chris!
I couldn’t purge any of my Santana LPs. Love them. I still need to get rid of a few more though. Having said that I’m buying way less than I have done. More discerning possibly. Retired so less money!!
@@TheVinylOrchard best track on it for me every song excellent only other album comes close iron maiden number of the beast the 2 greatest albums ever made in my opinion and still play to death now.
I prefer the first two IM LPs but that’s probably a nostalgia thing as much as anything. NMTB is a phenomenally well produced LP. Having said that I have the Spunk Bootleg and prefer that version of Anarchy
I do very much but I seem to stream stuff more nowadays. Convenience? I still love collecting but with 2500 LPs there is a real limit to how many you can actually play
I do listen to it but with so many it hard to find the time to listen to much of it. It’s impossible to play a collection like this. There aren’t enough hours and I like doing other stuff too. I’m a collector too. I love owning it

I feel very lucky

Love that track too. Always have. Great era to be a teenager wasn’t it!
Yes,feel very fortunate to have been a teenager through that period.

Very jealous that you saw DP in 1970!
Looks like you nicked my collection!! Great choices

Music is all about nostalgia really for me

Music has that knack of taking you back to specific moments in your life. That’s why I love it. Cheers Graham

I did purge some LPs but kept my 45s. Grateful I did. I sold some great albums. Got most back. Nostalgia is a big part of this for me. Cheers Richard
I've got that Frank Marino album for sale in ebay. I should play it again if it's that good 😀
My favourite album of the late 70's Wire - Pink Flag
Pink Flag has always eluded me. It’s pricey though sadly

In the event we moved house and now I have plenty more space so didn't need to purge it. Ain't it always the way. @@TheVinylOrchard

@@TheVinylOrchard I totally understand. I collect books. Got a bookcase full of them. Not read a single one.
@davidthom7127 I’ve played every Lp I own several times. Many of them considerably more.
