I own the 3423DW since march 2022 and have put thousands of hours on it. The only burn-in mitigation I did was hide the task bar. I only do content consumption like video games and RUclips, but so far absolutely no burn in. I leave auto HDR on as well so I am not limiting the brightness. hmm interesting. I have wondered about that cus I basically use my computer the same. Gaming mainly but also youtube and twitch. I figure using full screen on videos would mitigate most of the static image burn issues so an OLED monitor might be viable.
Interesting... so no issues with your unit, just applying the measure of hiding the taskbar. I need to buy a monitor, but I'm quite concerned about premature burn-in issues with an OLED. I remember the first 4k monitors to come out to the mainstream as I work in a electronics store. Think of where we have come in a couple years. 4k60 with TN panel was expensive back then, and higher refresh rate was not yet really thought of. Now THIS is on the market! Awesome!
I got a Samsung 4k 60hz TN panel years ago when they 1st came out. At the time alot couldn't even hit 4k 60hz. This right here is my upgrade. I'm buying this beast.
Really nice sounding Monitor, and \hats of to MSI for sending you one to take a look at. Looking forward to hearing more about LGs W-OLED version as well
I'm curious about their 1440p 480hz version because qd-oled "only" supports 360hz in comparison. but if those new qd-oleds are tech wise superior to LGs new w-oled panels I'd take the 360 over 480 any day if price and release would be the same.
Finally, the age of OLED monitors is here. This looks awesome. Hopefully, next year or 2, we will see 21:9 38-42 inch 4k/1600p 240Hz OLED. I would buy that.
So stoked for the text clarity tbh, even tho I’m mostly productivity user I’ll consider this over an IPS/VA FALD if a model comes out with burn in warranty - given how many measures they have to prevent it, the might hopefully stand behind them with a warranty… 🤞🏼
Text clarity will definitely be better on this 32" 4k over the 27" 1440p LG and 34" ultrawide 1440p displays simply because there are a lot more pixels, but this reviewer also made some subjectively true but not exactly correct statements about the older 1440p screens. Windows cleartype doesn't work AT ALL on LG WOLEDs - not only does it have the extra white subpixel, it doesn't even put the remaining pixels in order of R-G-B from left to right (its R-W-B-G) which means neither BGR nor RGB subpixel sampling can work without green in the middle. Text clarity needs to be tested with cleartype completey disabled through registry edits. Not exactly his fault, but Microsoft has missed the memo that we're entering an age where cleartype does more harm than good and needs to be disabled by default and, MAYBE, left as a legacy "Turn this on at your own risk" feature for power users who want their crisp monitors to look like misconverged CRTs. As far as the text rendering on the 1440p qd oleds... they're correctly RGB from left to right but the triangular structure makes it a little bit more like rGb. Cleartype doesn't really hurt, but it doesn't really help here either. I think text quality needs to be judged w/ proper monochrome anti aliasing or sharp pixels w/ hinting going forward, or else displays are going to get displayed for the shortcomings of the operating system. TLDR: Nothin fixes font rendering like upgrading from 1440p to 2160p then upgrading from 100% dpi to 150% dpi scaling setting. 18 point fonts with anti aliasing are always going to look better than 12 point.

This is probably the most excited I’ve gotten when it comes to monitor technology, I’ve been looking for smaller form factors to move to uni accommodation which would match or exceed in performance compared to my LG C3 42” and this is it essentially. Can’t wait!
Same. Got the neo G7 this summer for 800 bucks and love it. But oled is still the pinnacle for image quality. But I knew this was coming and the main reason I went with the VA is because I use it a lot for programing, so text and no burn in risk are important. And in most hdr scenarios the neo G7 gets REALLY close to my lg CX oled.
And how is their burn in warranty? On your first QD OLED review from MSI you told us they were going to add the warranty to their website, but I don't think it ever happened.
Super happy I didn't pull the trigger on the Alienware Ultrawide OLED, despite it's spectacular price. I wanted a 27 or 32 inch OLED screen with a newer generation screen. Please make sure you ask each manufacturer about their burn in warranty regarding their incoming OLEDs! Thanks as always Tim
I got 4 years of everything except for accidental physical damage but including burn-in (I asked) on my Samsung OLED G8 that was $900 on Black Friday. The protection took the price to just over $1000 ($1050), but given my old TV was from 2008 - 2010 and was so old, it is not even a smart TV and has a DVD drive built-in! 😳 I use the monitor as both a TV and a gaming monitor. If the price was any higher, I wouldn't have bought it due to the lack of a polarizer (meaning black levels in high lighting conditions are terrible) but in a surprise, I haven't had text fringing issues, and I really tried to look for it, nor did my unit have coil whine.
@@cameronbosch1213 I was actually one click away from buying the Alienware aw3423dwf from Best Buy with their warranty specifically because it was so generous with four years of warranty protection against burn in. Seriously can't wait for the full review! I've always been torn between really wanting OLED for all its advantages and shying away from it having experienced OLED burn-in hands on both privately and professionally. To me, spending a decent amount on an excellent display is perfectly fine. It's always seemed odd to me that people build amazing PCs just to look at what they can do through a second rate display. What's the awesome system there for in the first place, then? But spending upwards of $1k and having to replace the display after a few years? That's a different story. Let's just hope that 2nd gen QD-OLED'll hold up, because these look just too yummy to resist.
Id like to see some kind of burn in warranty with some of these. I think LG's oled is pretty robust as far as burn in by now, im a little less confident in QDOLED right night. If you're spending 1000+ it should last for a really long time
@@Vriess123 If I'm not mistaken, Alienware (Dell) just announced at CES that the 3-year warranty for their new 16:9 QD-OLED includes burn-in. Won't take that for granted until I see it in writing - but if that's so, it's a step in the right direction.
$1199 is much better than I thought, and big ups to MS for working with you guys on this before CES! Got enough info to know about this MSI and QD-OLED in general, so I'm more excited now. Before which one to get, I wanna see from HP their 32" Transcend, mostly because it's the only one with DisplayPort 2.0, and the Asus one, since they typically were the brightest ones; also the coating of each. Will definitely look forward to your coverage and reviews of each!
The DP2.0 could be a dealbreaker on most of these except the transcend if DSC turns out to be too noticeable. 4K 240 is a pretty insane benchmark to hit but... it's the difference between a monitor that could last 10 years or one that could last 5.
i am looking forward to those panels, also the HP Omen Transcend 32 uses the same panel with DisplayPort 2.1, so full 4K 240hz without DSC. I hope you can compare DSC with no DSC picture quality (brightness, color in various scenarios and other variables that DSC is compressing). the screen look already amazing :)
@@atomnia DP 2.1 exists, but it just released and therefore there are basically no products supporting it currently. Furthermore, every other model of 32" 4K 240Hz seems to only support DP 1.4, yet HP made no mention of this supposedly competitive advantage!

Nice to see the new monitors in hand. Are you at liberty to discuss if you are recieving any of the 27inch 360hz variants? im looking to upgrade but want to go down from 32 to 27. Do you think these would also come out in february?
Finally. I've been waiting for these to start popping up. Glad the text fringing seems to be improved, because I aim to use this both for gaming and professional use.
Once the final review is out.. please test the KVM functionality also. For me, it's been the Gigabyte M28U's one of the best features (I happen to use Mac for work and Windows/Linux for free time) along with being otherwise an excellent monitor. Now, should I wait for Gigabyte's next QD-OLED / RGBW-OLED with KVM or is the MSI's implementation as good?
What htz can these new 240hz 4k panels run at while set to 12bpc color? My dell aw3423DW runs at 175hz 8bpc or 120hz 12bpc. I'm curious how low the htz has to be dropped to in order to play at 12bpc with dsc 4k.
I cant believe how fast the monitor marketing is moving, when LG announced their first 27 inch oled last year, I thought it would be a slow swift, instead almost all major brands in the monitor space are offering oled panels with competitive specs.
@switchdeck9164 that's true but these companies can still offer different specs vs LG,take the Asus old monitor,it has higher brightness than the LG version
Finally! This is the kind of monitor I've been waiting for the past 4-5 years. And I 100% agree with you, this is a level of performance that's truly future proof for the next couple generations. Definitely worth the investment. Sucks a bit that the LG WOLED panel only goes into production in Q3 so it's not even certain if we'll see the WOLED competition this year. Still, I never imagined we'd get 4k/240 that quickly after the 3423DW released just 2 years ago. This is awesome! Question: at 10:29 the rear mount looks sort of trapezoid shaped. Does it still feature a VESA mount?
@@kerim_og_9378 are you REALLY concerned these new panels will get burned in so badly that you have to replace them in just a few years? as long as you do the most basic prevention like hiding task bar and run those burn-in prevention processes once in a while there shouldn't be any reason for them to not last long. friend of mine uses an old LG C1 as a desktop monitor for browsing and gaming, it's looks perfectly flawless after 2 years of heavy use and these new panels are supposedly even way better at avoiding any of those issues.
This is an exciting year for monitors! 32 inch flat 4k is my favorite format! Looking forward to buying a monitor like this next year sometime when there are more options to choose from. Hopefully by that time there are some pricing adjustments as more competition rolls out.
Looks great but I'm not convinced to make the jump yet. With game UIs having so many static elements and playing on HDR that could lead to some bad burn-in.

I'll definitely be keeping a hopeful eye out on the upcoming reviews of them all! Thanks for all of the effort you put in reviewing and showcasing these (and many other) monitors!
I know anti burn in tech has improved greatly, but at 1200 USD, I'm not going to take that gamble. My PC monitor is on for at least half the day, every day, for years. The static browser and desktop images makes me worry too much. We need more and better mini LED monitors.
I'd be interested to know if the task bar detection works no matter where you place the task bar or if it only works with the task bar at the bottom of the screen. Could you address this in the review video perhaps? I know it's quite niche but I've always had mine on top as a Linux user for over 20 years. It's just what I'm used to. But if that's gonna give me burn in I'd like to know about it, could be a deal breaker
As someone who primarily does desktop work, I think I'm going to buy one of these new displays with good Burn-In warranty / spare parts (panel) available in the future. I can't wait to finally see what games look like with newer display technologies, as I've been using the same 1440p 60Hz IPS Dell since 2016! These monitors are finally ones I can consider buying as 21:9 Ultrawide or 1440p displays don't work well with older (?) consoles like the PS3 and Nintendo Switch. Here, 1080p is a perfect 2x scale ! OLED will also probably help with the generally low contrast games of the 2000s. I really hope other vendors will implement DP 2.0/2.1/whatever, as I'd like to avoid DSC as much as possible. Waiting for full reviews before making a decision though.
I've been using an LG CX OLED as my main monitor since 2020 and the only thing I have done to baby it is to auto hide my task bar and a black desktop background. Gaming, browsing the web with multiple tabs, reading various message boards, Teams, Outlook. No sign of any burn in or image retention after 3 1/2 years of heavy usage.
I just the INNOCN 4k 1000HDR. Pleasantly suprised. HDR looks great, blooming and such I either don't notice at all or care about. Certainly don't notice it while gaming.
Isn't 10k way too little for a PC monitor? You'd still have awful blooming around text and small UI elements. I'd say that 2 million (1080p backlight resolution for a 2160p screen) sounds like a good compromise. Until then, mini-LED sounds better for TVs (when used to watch movies), where you're less likely to encounter small text and other small high contrast details.
Then get one if you can find and afford it, but OLED is the future, just wait until endurance claims/warranty suits you since that'll definitely arrive sooner than your MicroLED dreams. And if you do buy the closest MiniLED you can get, hope you aren't affected in your use case by the extra latency you'll get over even a normal LCD.
Eh soon.... I mean its already here but its $30-40K for a large panel and it will be a while before its both cheaper and available in smaller size. @@riannair7101

I own the 3423DW since march 2022 and have put thousands of hours on it. The only burn-in mitigation I did was hide the task bar. I only do content consumption like video games and RUclips, but so far absolutely no burn in. I leave auto HDR on as well so I am not limiting the brightness. I'm very curious on the 480hz version as I like both single player and multiplayer games.
hmm interesting. I have wondered about that cus I basically use my computer the same. Gaming mainly but also youtube and twitch. I figure using full screen on videos would mitigate most of the static image burn issues so an OLED monitor might be viable.
How do you even enable the auto hdr? I haven't looked into it, but it's off on mine regardless lol.
Interesting... so no issues with your unit, just applying the measure of hiding the taskbar. I need to buy a monitor, but I'm quite concerned about premature burn-in issues with an OLED. We'll have to wait for CES to see if there's any news regarding IPS improvements, or to dispel doubts about getting an OLED in 2024 for mixed applications, gaming, multimedia, productivity...
@@MrEL91N Full screen mitigate burn-in on the central zone of the display, but with 16/9 content on a 21/9 you always have burn-in on the edges. On my display, on grey background, i can see a little difference of brighteness beetween the 16/9 zone and the 21/9 zone. its subtle but it there.

Flat screen is very uncomfortable on anything more than 27 inches. Curved ultrawide 5k2k OLED is actual goal.

After years of waiting, it feels like OLED on desktop has finally arrived 🤩
Super looking forward to your review of this. I’ve been waiting for exactly these specs in an OLED monitor. 😊
18 point fonts with anti aliasing are always going to look better than 12 point.

i got the neo g7 32" in july of last year and have been nothing but impressed. but the glossy oled 32" panel still gets me drooling...

I use the monitor as both a TV and a gaming monitor.

$1199 is much better than I thought, and big ups to MS for working with you guys on this before CES! Got enough info to know about this MSI and QD-OLED in general, so I'm more excited now. Will definitely look forward to your coverage and reviews of each!
Looking forward to more details and discussion about the coatings as well
1199$ yes is not bad .I keep it in consideration together alienware qd oled .....and the lg dual hz
Expected at least 1500$, glad to see competition!
Price is amazing, and asus is also stated as 250 nits for brightness as remember, so its mainly about dp 2.0

I cant believe how fast the monitor marketing is moving, when LG announced their first 27 inch oled last year, I thought it would be a slow swift, instead almost all major brands in the monitor space are offering oled panels with competitive specs.
Didn’t it start two years ago? When Alienware released the first oled monitor
Lg makes the panels dude. Msi, Asus , etc. don't make oled screens they just buy them from lg or Samsung, so that's why a bunch of them are out now.

@thecwwshow8036 yes, but LG was the first with 240hz vs 175hz from alienware
This is awesome!

you can’t talk about future proof, when you’re talking about an OLED screen
@@kerim_og_9378 are you REALLY concerned these new panels will get burned in so badly that you have to replace them in just a few years? as long as you do the most basic prevention like hiding task bar and run those burn-in prevention processes once in a while there shouldn't be any reason for them to not last long. friend of mine uses an old LG C1 as a desktop monitor for browsing and gaming, it's looks perfectly flawless after 2 years of heavy use and these new panels are supposedly even way better at avoiding any of those issues.

I know anti burn in tech has improved greatly, but at 1200 USD, I'm not going to take that gamble. My PC monitor is on for at least half the day, every day, for years. The static browser and desktop images makes me worry too much. We need more and better mini LED monitors.
Agreed, i just want to see 1440p and 4k mini led without many of the quirks and build issues of the current ones

I'm still concerned with burn-in from an OLED monitor. I would prefer a 32" 4K/240Hz LCD with 10,000 local dimming zones.
Soon Microled will come ...with both features Oled and Miniled goodies!

Still no DP 2.1? Why won't they do it? How much extra could it possibly cost to put 2.1 instead of 1.4?
theyll wait for nvidia
It seems that only HP will be using DP 2.1 on their 4K 240 Hz QD-OLED.
This year is battle of the oleds. So far super exited for all the tech things coming out soon
Up until 2 years ago, my secondary monitor was a 15 year old 720p (1280 x 720) 50hz monitor.
Fun fact: 240hz 4k is (3840*2160*240)/(1280*720*50) = 43.2 TIMES more pixels per second than my old monitor.
240hz 4k is almost 2 BILLION pixels per second.
