    1st time watching and enjoyed your video and subscribed. Brings back memories from 20+ years ago when I had a similar 4.35 Quintrex. It was early times for SPs. I actually had to import lures and the hooks I wanted from the US. It took me about 2 years to crack the code but once cracked we would bag out most days. I took a work mate to a productive spot and he plucked a 99cm Snapper. I still haven't forgiven him for beating my PB.
    I used 14lb line on a small spin reel with 10lb leader. People thought I was mad using such light line but I rearlly got busted off while having the old black minn kota and I think it was one of the first auto pilots. I mostly drifted as there was no spot lock in the olden days. I also followed the 5m to 8m contour but not with a gps map. I actually followed the contours and put a mark on a hand held gps ever 5m or so. This was better than any mapping on a gps as they were never accurate.
    I fish from a Hobie kayak every now and then but I may have to get another boat now I am retired.
    Keep up the good Snapper.

      Man 99cm is an absolute beast! I’m glad you liked video mate. I was a kayak fisherman for many years before getting a boat and I can say there is definitely some advantages with a kayak especially in the skinny water but for the majority of fishing I do nowadays a solid little boat setup makes all the difference. I’m a big fan of light gear sometimes having to almost force myself to put it down when targeting big fish. Yeah if I were retired and didn’t have a boat I’d be changing that real quick haha. 👌👍

      @martytuckerfishing  2 месяца назад +1

      @@Jakhunta thanks mate it was a bloody effort let me tell ya haha. I guess the difference is the majority of the fish I target can be handled on that gear just fine however the odd one I hook can push really the limits of what the gear can handle haha.

    Gday Marty. I recently had a guy, that has moved here from Victoria, trying to tell me how shit Moreton bay was to fish because there weren't any fish. As long as they keep thinking like that there'll be plenty of fish for the locals !!! Thanks for the vid mate..

    Hi Marty, great Snapper mate!! Could you please inform me again what rod and reel you were using to catch that snapper. And who would sell it in the Redlands? Also, in your opinion, would this set up be good as an all rounder for catching whiting, flathead and snapper. I'm looking at getting some new gear, boat's still a few months away from delivery, so just getting organized :). Also, with that reel, do you still get the old "Bunch of grapes" at times when casting?, or are they geared differently to the old bait casters? As you can probably tell, I'm a complete novice when it comes to fishing Moreton Bay, and the gear you need :( Cheers, Gordon

    • @martytuckerfishing
      @martytuckerfishing  8 дней назад

      @@user-be8zj1zd9o Hey mate, the reel is a Diawa Tatlula SV 70 and the rod is a Samaki Zing Extreme V2. I’m not sure if anywhere in the Redlands would sell it. I got mine from MO tackle and the rod I just got at BCF. With any baitcaster you can always get a few backlashes especially when you’re getting used to them. That setup is a good all rounder for flathead, snapper, grassey emperor and even jew. If you are wanting to chaise bream and whiting on lures you’re better off using a light spin outfit or bfs setup because those little lures are usually too light to comfortably cast even with the Tatula. If I were just getting started fishing Moreton bay I have a 6lb, 10lb and a 20lb setup in either spin or cast in the two heavier setups and lighter one being spin. I hope this helps mate. 👍

      I’m not sure what the structure is out there off the port. It almost looks like old submerged jetties or something from back in the day. They’re not hard to find if sound around for a while. 🤙👍

    • @martytuckerfishing
      @martytuckerfishing  2 месяца назад +3

      Hey mate, I basically followed the eastern outer contours on my maps looking for fish and bigger schools of bait on my side imaging. Fishing structure is usually unproductive if you’re not seeing life around it on your sounder. 👍
