    As the owner of a Ford Taurus with the 3.0 Liter Duratec V6, I can say that it is a fine piece of engineering. In over 135K miles it keeps singing along with only scheduled maintenance provided. It has an impressive growl to it exhaust tone and the architecture lends itself to great power potential. The displacement has been increased to 3.5 Liters and has found itself in the latest edition of the Daytona and LeMans winning Ford GT. It develops plenty of power when allowed to reach higher RPMs and the Ford owner's manual touts that this engine's potential is most appreciated by "spirited drivers". It is offered in automobiles as well as SUVs and even in trucks. It's one of Ford's most versatile engines of the modern era. The twin turbo Eco-Boost version is a screaming powerhouse that's found its place well in the torque hungry arena of pick up trucks.

      They do have a tendency to leak oil from the the oil pan and timing cover. And changing a water pump on one is a bit of a headache. That said it is one of my favorable v6 engines.

    • @razortreadway
      @razortreadway 7 лет назад +1

      pbfloyd13 not to mention that they are that old and revised and turbocharged versions of them are still being used today

    • @williamcharles9480
      @williamcharles9480 7 лет назад +1

      pbfloyd13, you're right about the oil leaks. The rear main seal can also be a problem. I believe that the gasket seals harden because of heat. Updated gasket materials and designs may have addressed the oil leakage problem in some cases. On some versions of this Duratec the water pump located at the rear of the left side cylinder head where it's driven by its own separate drive belt. On a Taurus this would be at the front, driver's side of the engine. Access to the pump is pretty good.

      I have a Mazda 6 wagon with this engine and a 5-speed manual. It's super fun and I've put over 30,000 miles on it in the last 18 months but it's still going strong! For anyone who had a 3.0L Duratec, I really recommend trying Schaeffer 7000 or 9000 series oil, and even if you don't want to get fancy oil, do yourself a favor and get a good oil filter like a Wix or similar.

    Nice video. Keep the great work up.
    BMW's M57D30 is a good engine as well wouldn't you agree? It came in a single turbo configuration in 25d and 30d variants or twin turbochargers in the 35d models.
    Those engines are dependable workhorses for most of their lives and are even with high mileage a good platform for upgrades.
    A simple removable of the catalytic converters and DPF followed by a tune pushes them into 300 HP/600Nm territories or even 360 HP/750Nm (for the 35d variants). With an upgrade turbocharger and fuel system higher outputs can be achieved easily but watch out for transmission issues if you run an automatic transmission.

    What about the Mitsubishi 3.0 v6? Used many of dodges fwd cars from the shadow and Daytona to the stealth..also used in the 3000gt and probably many others that I have not mentioned.. They were very reliable strong ohc engines..and very easily upgraded from parts from other Mitsubishi engines..had one when I first got my drivers license.. Did a few upgrades with parts from junkyard cars..larger throttle body from a 3.3..injectors from dodge 4 cyl turbo car which were slightly bigger..ported and polished intake plenum and 2 3/4 straight exhaust.. Was easy to do and gave a lot of 5.0 mustang owners a pretty big shock after lining up against them..they never expected a little dodge shadow to run like that..lol

    You completely missed out the Porsche 3.0L 16V version of their slant 4 engine! This was derived from the 2.5L 4 cylinder that was derived from one bank of the 928's V-8. Introduced in the 944 S2 this engine with it's 16 valves, twin cams and twin balancer shafts produced 211BHP. Then upgraded with variable valve timing for the Porsche 968 to give 240BHP and finally 300 BHP in turbo form. This is a lovely engine and is capable of surprisingly good fuel economy, when not being pushed hard.

    The best 3 litre engine that I've had experience with is the Nissan RB30 engine, I've got a VL Commodore as one of my cars which is off the road & needs a lot of restoration work.
    There was nothing special about it in single cam & non turbo form but they are a very good platform for a very high performance engine as their crankshaft & connecting rods are very strong from the factory.
    I bolted an RB25DE cylinder head onto the engine along with its pistons, oil pump,etc to create an RB30DE engine,it had a noticeable increase in bottom end torque but the big power increase (50%) came after 3,500 RPM's.
    My current Commodore runs a tuned 5.7 litre Chevrolet LS1 V8 engine & is a bit better people carrier because it has a lot more power & torque, like if I cart a car full of people around in it ,it doesn't seem to change its performance.
    Even with the twin cam 3 litre engine, I still had to keep the revs up in the VL Commodore with a whole lot of people in the car as I still noticed a difference from when I'm the only one whose in the car.
    I don't notice it in the V8 Commodore, as far as the 3 litre engine goes,I'm not sure if it's noticeable in turbocharged form.
    They did release the VL Commodore fitted with the RB30ET engine but they had the dreaded turbo lag as they ran a Low compression ratio of 7.8:1 & the stock 150 kilowatt power output isn't surprisingly powerful to todays standards as that engine is about 30 years old now.

      Muammar Gibran Since the VE30DE Was based on the VG but enhanced (VIAS- VVT) and since it had a cast iron block, well, way better than any VG30DET. Now, regarding the VQ, well, the VQ30DETT prepared for racing is a killer one.

      in europe vr4 came with two MHI 13G turbos stock you could just crank up the boost and have 500hp 700nm and have the fastest car around in the early 90´s. Stock Z32 TT turbos are Garrett TB02/22 turbos that can also make similar power . mk4 tt supra can also make similar power..

    OM606 and OM605 can take up to 4.2bars of boost on the stock engine,providing 700+hp and 1200+nm.
    Okay,it's way too much and you shouldn't run it like that,but 3-3.5bar is no problem at all,for long time use also.

    The DFVs last championship came 27 years After it first ran strictly speaking. The Engine Schumacher used in 1994 to win was a Cosworth V8, still basicly a DFV with more Displacement and ECU. That is the most impressive thing about the engine.

    Ford's 3.0 Vulcan is a great engine that refuses to die especially when paired with a manual transmission.

    • @gokartbuyer
      @gokartbuyer 6 лет назад

      Treva Graham Duratec is pretty much the next generation and is just as reliable. Although the power differs greatly due to the DOHC set up with 4 valves per cylinder. I own one and it just has a jam to it over 2500rpm and it'll rev past 6500rpm sounding amazing while doing it

    • @JJFlores197
      @JJFlores197 6 лет назад

      I have an 01 Taurus (no manual transmission available for this one), with the Vulcan engine and I can attest to it's longevity and reliability. In the 3 years I've owned the car (and nearly 30k miles), I've never had any issues with the engine itself. It currently has 207k miles on it and it still runs fine. Sure it isn't powerful or fuel efficient, but it works.

    Packed in a car like the e90 330xd it's ab beast on the road and absolutely economic!

    how could you miss N54 N55 N52 whyyyyyyyy

    • @ChasingTheeDragon
      @ChasingTheeDragon 7 лет назад +12

      For real the N54 is the modern 2JZ. I think if DI ecu's become more common and affordable we'd probably see 1XXX hp N54's

    • @ChasingTheeDragon
      @ChasingTheeDragon 7 лет назад +4

      The turbo's and the fuel pump seem to be the problem with the N54. But that's okay since they need to be upgraded to make power anyway.

    • @kevins5911
      @kevins5911 7 лет назад

      Chase Watkins, its not necessarily the ECU, Motec has a ECU that can control DI, The main problem is the fuel system, mainly injectors and the high pressure fuel pumps, its going to take some time before aftermarket developers get onboard and start making high flow/pressure injectors and pumps which is no easy task when you consider some DI fuel systems out there run in excess of 20 000psi. that's no easy task, of coarse you can just put on secondary port injection to supplement the required fuel but ultimately just like when fuel injection first came out its going to take tuners some time before they really figure how to fully take advantage of what DI has to offer mainly the ability to inject fuel during the compression stroke which can reduce engine knock considerably if done right giving the ability to run more timing and produce more power. Soon fuel injection will become antiquated like carburetor

    • @ChasingTheeDragon
      @ChasingTheeDragon 7 лет назад

      Yes but that Motec ECU is starts at almost 5 grand. That's quite a pretty penny vs a Haltech or ProEFI for a 2jz. Secondary injection to supplement the direct injection not only helps in terms of power but also longevity.

    • @kevins5911
      @kevins5911 7 лет назад

      chase Watkins, yeah secondary port injection will clean out carbon deposits from the back side of the intake valves which is one of the biggest issues with DI at the moment, maintenance, because there is no fuel injected into the intake ports, all that engine oil that gets dumped back into the intake manifold by the EGR valve builds up to thick carbon deposits on the backside of the valves in DI injected cars sometimes in as little as 30,000 miles it can cause compression loss and other problems and isn't cheap to get it serviced and removed by the dealer, secondary port injection will clean all that oil off valves as its injected and solve that carbon deposit problem DI engines are known for, or you can just remove your EGR valve and replace it with a block plate and stop the oil getting into the intake manifold to begin with, but I think if you do that you'll fail this thing called a smog test or something
