Welcome to another episode of Old Money Mansions, where we unravel the enigmatic beauty of historic estates. Today, we venture into the verdant countryside of France to spotlight the Château de la Mothe-Chandeniers-a historic gem uniquely resurrected by a global online community.
From its origins in the 13th century, this fortress has undergone remarkable transformations. Initially serving as a stronghold for France's ruling Bauçay family, it later morphed into an opulent residence for the elite. But its glory faded, subjected to fires, financial ruin, and abandonment. Yet, its intricate architecture and atmospheric gardens never lost their allure. They simply waited-for a new generation to discover them.
Flash forward to the 21st century, a time when the Internet has become an unexpected savior for the Château. A groundbreaking crowdfunding campaign launched in 2017 caught the world's attention, amassing a whopping 1.6 million euros from supporters in 84 countries. This wasn't an exclusive endeavor but a democratic enterprise. Owners, now shareholders, participate in decision-making, from restoration plans to marketing strategies.
Between 2019 and 2021, restoration efforts were meticulous. The exterior was given a facelift; the roof was revitalized, and the gardens reimagined. While the interior remains a blend of splendor and decay, the collective vision for the estate is as clear as ever: to merge its historical richness with modern-day functionality.
The Château de la Mothe-Chandeniers is more than just a rejuvenated monument; it's a living symbol of what can be achieved when humanity comes together, breaking down societal walls for a shared cause. As we navigate the uncertainties of the 2020s-defined by technological advancements and shifting sociopolitical landscapes-the future of this French marvel remains intriguingly open-ended.
So, stay tuned as we delve into this enthralling narrative of decay, digital savior, and endless potential. Welcome to the castle the world built. Subscribe now and hit the notification bell to journey with us through the corridors of history and the pathways of collective triumph.

Had you heard of Château de la Mothe-Chandeniers before this video - and do you think more chateaux should be saved through crowd-funding?

I heard about it the day before the crowd funding deadline and I just wasn't able to pull the trigger on the 50 euros because of the possible ongoing expenses. But I am fascinated by the story and I wish it the best! And I won't hesitate the next chance I get to become the owner of a floor tile in such a magnificent structure.

I wish you had focused on the actual chateau. I understand you need to fill a video with images but the choice of such random clips ranging from Downton Abbey and The Gilded Age to Steve Martin, Kevin James and Schindler’s List made my head spin. You highlighted several RUclipsr’s actual ongoing chateau projects that you should link to so their channels can be accessed and supported. As to the Chateau de la Mothe-Chandeniers, I’m off to Google to fill in the gaping holes of its narrative left by your video. I guess I do thank you for piquing my curiosity albeit in such a schizophrenic manner.

i think a cahtaeu that has that much trouble finding an inhabitant over such a long period of time should be left alone. though many have wanted to restore it and occupy it, it doesnt seem to work. it should be left as it is, more of a garden than a house

Bla bla bla, nothing's been done, it's still an empty decaying shell. When will all that money be spent on actually fixing the structure, or is it just to be left a ruin and cautionary tale of what can happen when neglect wins out over good intentions.

allons , cette restauration durera sans 10 ans ou plus, selon l' argent des investisseurs
l' idée est bonne, la participation, alors sois optimiste dans ta vie , sinon on ne fait rien à force de tout critiquer , comme toi... courage!!!
